It’s summer time here at my house. While summer may not actually start until June 21st, the boys are out of school and we are in summer mode! Summer is just a bit more relaxed and low key.  Time to call up some friends, fire up the grill and make some summer memories. Whether it’s the 4th of July, or a Sunday afternoon, there’s nothing better than a summer party.

Good Cook Nonstick Cutlery Review & Giveaway

Last week a box full of Good Cook Nonstick Knives showed up at my door. I was so excited to see them and felt kinda like a kid at Christmas. I spend a lot of time in the kitchen and have been using a set of 2 ceramic knives for almost all of my food prep. I do love them but they just aren’t always the right tool for the job. Now I have a great new set of knives that include a big variety to suit all my needs. Here’s what was in my box:

This past weekend was very dreary so we opted to stay home and get some things done. Since I got a big beautiful produce box on Thursday,instead of going out for our typical Saturday dinner out, I grabbed the Good Cook knives and gave them a test drive. I decided to whip up some Spinach & Feta Chicken Rollups. I added some steamed veggies and fresh black eyed peas. Who needs to go out with a delicious meal like that?!

The first thing I did was chop the veggies.  The blades on all the knives are non-stick coated  and have soft-grip, ergonomic handle that fits comfortably in the hand and provides better control when slicing and when hands are wet. I loved the little pairing knife for slicing up the carrots. The smaller blade allowed for good control so I could get even slices. When steaming veggies you have to make sure the items are equal so the food cooks evenly. I tried the Santoku knife first but settled in with the smaller pairing knife…it worked like a charm. The Santoku knife was a great choice for chopping my onions. I zipped through the onion quickly and without a tear shed.

Next I grabbed the chef knife and quickly chopped the big bunch of spinach. The knife was larger and the big 8 inch blade made getting through the bunch quick and easy. A quick wash and I then used it to slice large chicken breast into thin fillets.  I have to say that I was extremely pleased with all the knives and will definitely put them to good use often as I prepare meals each week. Another feature that makes these knives a big hit for my household is that each knife comes with its own fitted safety sheath. My boys know to keep their little fingers off my kitchen knives but the safety sheath adds another aspect of protection since we all know 5 and 7 year old boys don’t follow the rules all the time

Windex Touch-Up Cleaner Review

Am I the only one who feels like I clean from the moment I get up until the time I go to bed every night? I have recently started to wonder if I am raising Tasmanian devils or little boys – tee hee!

The boys were home from school for a couple of weeks as part of their holiday break. Well, I am going to tell you it might have been a break for them but it certainly could not be considered a break for me. I love my children dearly but I did a secret happy dance when they were both back in school!

I am always on the lookout for products to help me with my constant battle to keep my house clean. I was thrilled to be able to try a new breakthrough product from the folks at SC Johnson called Windex Touch-Up Cleaner. This cleaner is unlike anything currently available. It’s the dispenser that makes life so much easier thanks to it’s innovative new way to clean. You just dab it, clean it and you’re done!

They have two versions. One for each of the rooms that tend to be the messiest – the kitchen and the bathroom. I have had two bottles for about a month now. Cleaning is definitely not at the top of my “favorite things to do list.” While not a fun task, it is very necessary. I am a stickler for keeping things clean and tidy. While the boys make it difficult to keep things clean, they are the reason I do it. I am a firm believer that a clean house is a healthy house.

MyCouponKeeper – New Version Review and Giveaway

Lots of you guys ask me about what kind of coupon binder that I use. Well, I don’t use a binder – I use a box I went through just about every storage method that you can think of – binders, baseball card holders, zip folders, plastic pouches…seriously I tried everything.

I had to turn my other box sideways in the cart so it would fit. The new model fits perfectly and you can pop it open easily to get any coupons you might need.

The system also comes with a take to store purse size folder which I think is a great idea.  Basically, you put the coupons you intend to use on the left side of the binder then move the ones you will definitely be use to the right side to present to the cashier!!

One of my favorite part about the box is the removable insert boxes that you get as well. These are what I use to gather the coupons that I will use for my shopping trip. I just pull out what I need and pop all the coupons in the small box for easy access.

Overall I am thrilled with this new system.  I think it is very easy to use.  I love the tabbed dividers and how it allows for quick access to your categories. The hard part is going to be filling that baby…I have twice the space now!

Next week is spring break for my boys. I have decided that is when I will begin my spring cleaning. Not having to do carpool will give me back several hours that I usually spend sitting in the car. My husband will also be home after Tuesday and we have decided to do a few projects around the house. One of my projects is going to included possibly painting my little powder room and giving it a fresh new look. I am considering stripes…anyone want to talk me out of it? –tee hee!

We built this house six years ago and there are two rooms that have not been touched since I first decorated. Part of the reason they are still stuck in dullsville is that I just don’t know where to begin. My powder room is small but it is the bathroom that guests use when they come to my house. I also have a guest suite that has become the resting place for decor items that I no longer use in other parts of my house. I always tell people that it is an eclectic design, but honestly – it is the catch all room. This room is where I struggle –I am not sure where I will begin!

While I work on freshening up my decor next week I will also be replacing some of my Expressions products. Is there anything better than a house that is clean and smells fresh? In my slightly-obsessive-compulsive world, that is what I strive for on a daily basis. Due to the fact that I live with three males ages 4, 5 & 40+ my efforts are often foiled within minutes of a long day’s work!

I love my guys dearly…but, I will be honest and tell you that they stink! I have tried pretty much every air freshener that exists in an attempt to give my house a pleasing fragrance that is not overwhelming or “underwhelming”. I have tried cones, electric air fresheners, sprays and even machines that emit a fragrance when it detects motion. Some are just ok and some I have tried have been just awful. One of my biggest complaints is that the majority of air freshener products are extremely unattractive! I end up hiding them which ultimately defeats the purpose.

Most of us use some type of air freshener in the bathroom. I like to keep something in my powder room for guests. My powder room is small so I find that a spray works best. The issue I have is – where to put the can? If I leave it out for guests to use then I have a super ugly metal can with lots of writing and ugly flowers all over it. That is not my idea of attractive decor. My other option is to hide it under the cabinet. Most guests don’t feel comfortable rummaging around other folk’s cabinets and drawers. Guests will not be able to use what they can’t see.

I have been looking for a new slow cooker. I am just not pleased with the one I have. It is a manual cooker and I have had so many people tell me I need one that has a probe and is programable. Last week, I shared my first impressions and experience with the Glade Expressions products and just have to share a funny little story with you guys.

My oldest son had a play date at the beginning of the week. All of the boys took off downstairs to play and my friend excused herself to the bathroom. My powder room is not far from the family room so I couldn’t help but notice that my friend Sara was in the bathroom giggling. A minute later, I get a wonderful whiff  of Pineapple & Mangosteen as Sara comes out of the bathroom. She called me yesterday so that I could share with you guys that she is now a huge fan as well.
