Did you know that 1 in 7 Americans struggle with hunger? Does that number surprise you? When I think about that number and then think about the children at my kids’ school, it makes me sad as I know that there are many who are likely a part of that statistic!
Food insecurity exists in virtually every community in the US. These people often struggle between having to choose between paying their monthly housing costs or paying for food for their family. Could you imagine having to make that choice? It’s likely that many of us know people who deal with these types of struggles…it could be a grandparent, a brother, an aunt or a friend. Remember you can make a difference in your community! The Produce for Kids campaign with Publix is supporting 24 Feeding America® food banks in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina.
The funds raised during the Produce for Kids campaign will go to support Feeding America’s children’s programs, like Kids Café, Child Hunger Corps and the Summer Food Service Program. All you have to do to get involved is support the sponsors! Just look for the Produce for Kids signs when you are shopping in the produce department. By adding the delicious and healthy foods to your cart, you’ll bring home healthy and delicious foods for your family PLUS you’ll help support local families and children in-need as well!
