Avocado, Bacon & Turkey Wrap

What do you guys do when you need dinner in a pinch? I know if you are visiting me…the last thing you want to do is spend a bunch of money rolling through your local drive thru. Not only is that a super quick way to waste a ton of money but the health factor is typically very low when you opt for dinner from a fast food window!

How about creating your own fast food at home for a fraction of the price? Not only can you save huge amounts of money, you also get great taste that’s easy on the waist line.

Instead of a greasy burger – why not whip up my Avocado, Bacon & Turkey Wrap? This meal comes together in about 15 minutes and offers the taste of a hearty burger with a fraction of the calories. Ground turkey and a package of Flatout Flatbread are my secrets to creating a healthy burger that my guys will devour.

This recipe starts with a pack of Flatout Flatbread…any variety that you like. I generally always have a pack of the Flatout Light Original and Garden Spinach in my freezer. We love all the varieties but those are the two favorites at my house.

flatout-lightIf you haven’t tried Flatout Flatbread…you are really missing out. These babies are perfect for wraps and make the most incredible pizzas that come together in just minutes! Look for Flatout products in the bakery section at Publix. No matter if you opt for the regular or light versions, you’ll get fantastic taste that comes with very nice nutritional stats. Flatout Flatbreads are –

  • Low Fat
  • Good source of fiber
  • 0g Tran Fat per serving
  • Kosher certified
  • 140 calories or less (Light versions are just 90 calories!)

You’ll also love the price. The packages are a great value and means that you can whip up my recipe for much less than the cost of that greasy fast food burger! I have a feeling that we’ll see a BOGO sale very soon…you will want to stock up for sure!

This is a super quick recipe. Instead of forming burgers, I just crumble the meat and cook it with some seasoning. It’s done in under 10 minutes, then it’s just a matter of building your favorite burger. I love using avocado for the flavor plus it acts like a kind of glue for the wrap. Another tip you might like is to used crumbled bacon in your wrap to keep the calories low.  You’ll use a fraction of the amount you’d use if you used full strips but you still get that delicious bacon-y burger taste in every bite!flatout turkey wrap

Total time:
Serves: 4
Ingredients
  • 1 package Flatout Flatbread – any flavor
  • 1/2 teaspoon of olive oil
  • 1 pound ground turkey breast
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 4 tablespoons dry golden onion soup mix
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 avocados, mashed
  • 4 strips cooked bacon, crumbled
  • your favorite burger toppings – lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, pickles, mustard, ketchup, etc.
Instructions
  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet and add the ground turkey and chopped onion,
  2. Cook over medium high until the turkey is cooked through, crumbling as you stir.
  3. Add 4 tablespoons of the golden onion soup mix and the water.
  4. Cook over medium high heat for about 5 minutes, until the water is absorbed.
  5. I like to lightly toast one side of my Flatout Flatbread under the broiler for about 1 minute…just to add a nice texture. Do not toast until crispy…just a minute under the broiler will give it a great texture.
  6. Spread a few tablespoons of the mashed avocado all over the broiled side if the flatbread.
  7. Spoon on about 1/4 cup of the cooked turkey down the middle of the flatbread and top with the crumbled bacon and your favorite burger toppings.
  8. Roll up the flatbread and serve.
