Ham & Gouda Biscuits

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup 1 stick cold unsalted butter, cut into small cubes
  • 3/4 cup shredded Gayo Azul Gouda cheese
  • 1/2 cup chopped cooked ham leftover holiday ham works perfectly!
  • 1 cup cold buttermilk

Method
 

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
  3. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in the shredded Gayo Azul Gouda and the chopped ham until evenly distributed.
  5. Pour in the cold buttermilk and mix just until a soft, shaggy dough forms. Do not overmix!
  6. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently pat it down to about 3/4-inch thickness.
  7. Use a biscuit cutter to cut out biscuits. Rework scraps as necessary.
  8. Place biscuits on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  9. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown on top. Serve warm and watch them disappear!

Notes

Notes: This recipe makes 6 - 8 large biscuits or 10 - 12 smaller biscuits. Larger biscuits may require more baking time.
