The arrival of a new year often brings a renewed focus on wellness, but the “New Year, New You” transition doesn’t have to mean bland meals or hours spent in the kitchen. Building healthy routines is much easier when you have a pantry stocked with versatile, high-impact ingredients that do the heavy lifting for you.
To kick off the year, I’m sharing one of my favorite “better-for-you” comfort meals using two of my kitchen staples: Dash Seasonings and Polaner Preserves. Dash offers salt-free flavor profiles that keep sodium in check without sacrificing taste, while Polaner Sugar Free and Organic Preserves provide the perfect touch of sweetness without the added refined sugars.
Grab a few ingredients and serve up a batch of Air Fryer Sweet & Sour Chicken. This version of the takeout classic is lighter, crispier, and ready in under 30 minutes.
The flavor secret for my recipe? I use Dash original to season the chicken breast pieces before air frying. It provides a savory base without the salt. And, instead of a syrupy, sugar-laden bottled sauce, I whisk together Polaner Sugar Free Apricot Preserves with a few pantry staples. The preserves give the sauce that signature sticky texture and bright fruit flavor that your whole family will love.

Method
- Place the sauce ingredients in a small bowl and whisk to combine. Set aside.
- Preheat air fryer to 400º F.
- Place the cornstarch in a bowl or plastic bag.
- Sprinkle Dash Original Seasoning on the chicken then add to the bowl with cornstarch and toss until completely coated.
- Spray the basket with cooking spray and place the chicken in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Do not overcrowd the basket, you may need to cook in batches.
- Spray the chicken lightly with cooking spray. Air fry the chicken for 7 - 9 minutes, shaking half way through the cooking time. Note: the chicken should be cooked through and crispy but will be a very pale color.
- Meanwhile, heat 1 tsp of oil in a large skillet and cook the onion and bell pepper for 2 - 3 minutes. Add the pineapple and heat an additional minute.
- Add the sauce ingredients and cook over medium heat stirring continuously, until slightly thickened. Remove from heat.
- Add the cooked chicken to the pan and toss to fully coat the chicken with the sauce.
- Serve over rice topped with sliced green onions, if desired.
