I love holidays…all of them! Obviously some are a little more fun than others…but honestly, I’ll take any reason to celebrate!
Halloween is one of my absolute favorite holidays. Think about it—there are costumes, food, decorations and spending time with friends and family—it’s all my favorite things rolled up into one fun-filled day!
I have always found ways to incorporate fun themes into our meals on holidays. Sometimes I go very elaborate and other times I keep it simple. After all, there is just nothing better than seeing someone smile when they see a festive plate of food.
I figure…why be boring? The holidays give us a reason to have fun.
Take my Ice Cream Spider for example. A bowl full of Breyer’s Ice Cream is great. But with a little bit of effort, a couple of scoops of that tasty ice cream becomes a dessert that is fun, festive and absolutely fantastic. It doesn’t take a lot of effort but the end result is really quite impressive.
All you have to do is melt some chocolate and pipe out the spider legs. Just melt some chocolate chips or candy melts and place into a zipper bag. Clip a corner and draw legs on your plate. Allow the chocolate to harden before adding your “spider web”.
To make the web, just melt a couple of marshmallows and let them cool slightly so they don’t burn your hands. When cool enough to touch, grab a handful of the melted marshmallow and pull into thin strings across the plate to create a web-like effect.
You can add sprinkles as well just to make your dessert a little more festive.
Finally, grab your Breyers Ice Cream and a couple of trigger scoops (or regular spoons) and scoop out a small scoop and a large scoop to form the spider’s body. In just minutes, you have a holiday treat that is anything but boring.
All that’s left is to grab a spoon and enjoy!
