Welcome to this week’s Try Me Tuesday. As a reminder…each week I will grab a new set of products and test them out. I’ll put the Publix brand up against a national brand product and report back.
I know many times I struggle with what brand to choose. Often a sale or a coupon/sale combination make that an easier decision…but what about those times when you need an item and there is not a sale? Do you grab the house brand or pay more and get the national brand? More importantly, is there really a difference?
This week we tried Publix Disinfecting Wipes.
Publix Disinfecting Wipes, 75 ct, $3.99
Clorox Disinfecting Wipes, 75 ct, $5.13
Lysol Disinfecting Wipes, 80 ct, $5.39
I thought it would be fun to try something besides food—so we tested Disinfecting Wipes.
This was a big harder to test as really I was the only one who really uses these on a regular basis. I honestly have never taken the time to really investigate or test any of them. In all honestly, I usually just grab the canisters when they are BOGO with a coupon.
So first, here is the breakdown of the cost at regular price with no coupon:
- Publix Disinfecting Wipes – a little over 5¢ per wipe
- Clorox Disinfecting Wipes – about 7¢ per wipe
- Lysol Disinfecting Wipes – about 7¢ per wipe
Next, I set up a mock test with food on my countertops to see how they compared as far as ability to clean. Here I really didn’t see too much of a difference. It took about the same number of passes for each to clean their “share” of the mess.
In looking at the wipes, the Clorox and the Lysol brands had more of a texture than the Publix version and while not scientific…the Lysol version seemed to last a little bit longer than the other two. All three report to kill 99.9% of viruses and bacteria.
From a scent standpoint, I definitely preferred the Lysol variety. The Clorox came in second and the Publix was last.
Now without doing some major scientific testing, I really couldn’t see/find any huge differences in the wipes. I did prefer the texture of the name brand versions. The regular price is definitely better with the Publix version so that might be something to keep in mind if you need these items and can’t wait for a sale.
For me, I am going to stick with the BOGO/coupon combo and stock up every chance I get. Like toilet paper, trash bags and paper towels…I grab these babies any time I can get a deal.
So have you tried them? Did you have a preference?
