Welcome to this week’s Try Me Tuesday. As a reminder…each week I will grab a new set of products and test them out. I’ll put the Publix brand up against a national brand product and report back.
I know many times I struggle with what brand to choose. Often a sale or a coupon/sale combination make that an easier decision…but what about those times when you need an item and there is not a sale? Do you grab the house brand or pay more and get the national brand? More importantly, is there really a difference in taste?
This week we tried Publix Beef Meatballs.

How I have never done these…I just don’t know!! My guys are HUGE meatball fans and I can’t believe that I never thought about letting them try these. Now there were several different varieties and I had to make and executive decision and went with the Armour. I guess if I had tried another brand we might have had a different outcome. Maybe one day I will grab a bunch of bags ;-)
So the comparison is a little difficult as you will notice that the bag sizes are not the same. The Publix brand gives you 5 additional ounces but it’s still less expensive. I will also note that the size of the meatballs were dramatically different. The Publix meatballs were twice the size of the Armour meatballs.
Of course the most important factor is the taste. My Jeb-a-doo is a meatball fanatic and was the first to make a decision. He preferred the taste of the Armour meatballs saying that they had better flavor. My husband agreed and chose the Armour as his overall favorite but said that he liked the actual meatball of the Publix brand.
Jake and I chose the Publix meatball as our favorite. I preferred the texture of the Publix brand and actually thought that the Armour was a bit too salty in comparison to the Publix version. I thought it was more like my own homemade meatball.
Now I mentioned that the sizes and prices were very different. With the Publix bag you get more meatballs for less moolah. I think the taste is going to be a matter of preference but I really think you’d be very satisfied with the Publix brand. I’d certainly be fine saving money and getting a break from rolling a bunch of my own meatballs on a super busy night!
Have you guys tried both? What did you think?
