Now that Publix has a policy in writing, it makes it much easier for everyone to be on the same page. Whether you are a new couponer or an old pro, you need to make sure you know the rules so you can play fair and get the most bang for your buck.
This week, I thought we’s focus on a great part of the policy – using competitor coupons on store brand items.
Here is the specific part of the coupon policy as shown on Publix.com:
Q: Will Publix accept a competitor’s coupon for a private label item?
A: Yes. We’re happy to accept a coupon for a competitor’s private label product because it’s a chance to introduce you to our terrific Publix brand.
I love this part of the Publix policy. While I don’t get to take advantage of it too often, I love that is is a possibility.
I am a creature of habit. When I go to buy products – if it’s not an item I have a coupon for, I tend to buy items that I have tried in the past and have used before.
Before I started couponing, I found myself buying the items that I grew up with – items that my mom always purchased. Without coupons, I might have never found some of my favorite things…Sabra Hummus, Wholly Guacamole, Sugardale Bacon – the list goes on and on!
I will admit that I used to think that store products were an inferior product. Then I learned something very interesting. A large percentage of store brand items are the exact same product as the name brand- just in a different package. Seriously, many of the products are manufactured in the same facilities and the only difference is the label…how wild is that?! Now, of course this is not the case for every single item but there are a ton of items out there that are the exact same thing!
Most of us know that one of the best ways to save is by shopping the sale and using a coupon. Since we don’t get a ton of coupons for store brands, couponers usually have a pantry filled with name brand products that we can pick up at a great price. When those occasional store brand coupons pop up, Publix will allow you to use that coupon to discount their house brand/private label item! This is a great way for you to see that all those great Publix brands are quality products that you can feel good about feeding your family.
Next time you get a store coupon, use it to try out the Publix equivalent. I think you will be very pleased!
