Coupon Question And Answer – Ask I Heart Publix 9/17

coupon question and answer

If you have a question about couponing at Publix, this is the place to find the answer! Each week my buddy Christy and I have a little coupon question and answer session here on Ask I Heart Publix. Keep sending in those questions – we love to answer them! Just remember if we didn’t get to your question this week…we will do our best to cover it another week!!

Remember–there is a tab at the top of the site under “About” titled “Ask I Heart Publix” where you can find the questions and answers from past weeks!

Here are this week’s questions:

  1. Why is Publix changing their coupon policy? Do you think it will affect the way we are able to save at Publix?
  2. How do you find out about booklet and Publix coupons so quickly?
  3. Do you still need Reader Spotlight stories?
  4. Do you cook all the recipes on this site?
  5. I love the new site design!

And here are the answers!

1. Mary wants to know: I saw that you posted that Publix is changing their coupon policy. Do you know why they made the changes they did? My store used to let me use more than one $X/$XX coupon in a single order when I met the purchase requirements, so I’m worried that I won’t be able to save as much.

Christy: I don’t know specifically why Publix changed their policy, but I’m actually pretty relieved about the changes. I know a number of commenters had been speculating about the changes for a couple weeks now and the changes that Publix is making are pretty minimal, in my opinion.

My stores used to let me use more than one $X/$XX coupon in a single transaction too, so I am a bit sad that that is going away…but I have to say, Publix is really pretty amazing with all the coupons they will accept. Saving $5 per week is a nice added bonus that we just don’t get at other stores…I really can’t complain that they don’t want to give me $20 off my total order every week anymore when they didn’t even issue the total-order coupon to begin with! There is not a single other store that will do that for me…PLUS Publix is clean, has great service and products, and terrific sale prices. As you can see – Publix still has my vote for best store ever! :)

Michelle: If you look at almost any other store’s coupon policy I think you will see that Publix still offers a very liberal and generous policy. It appears to me that the changes made were put in place to ensure that the majority of folks can take advantage of the deals.

I am just guessing but I feel like some of the changes were implemented to control shelf clearing and allow more people to get access to the deals.

Now I know some folks are very unhappy that those $x/$xx coupons are now being limited. I guess since I rarely have those coupons, it’s really of no consequence to me.  For you guys who were using 2, 3, 4 or more per transaction…I guess it’s quite a hit. I really feel like Publix has been very generous in allowing any of these to be used and limiting them helps protect their bottom line. There are very few stores that allow you to use coupons from other stores in addition to manufacturer’s coupon AND their own store coupons.

There are so many options to save and this change is fairly minimal for most couponers. I honestly think it will work to our advantage. Those folks who shop for very large families and those that may be super couponers, you might end up having to make more trips over the week to get the quantities and savings you want.

Try Me Tuesday – Fudge Graham Cookies

publix cookies

Welcome to this week’s Try Me Tuesday. Each week I will grab a new set of products and test them out. I’ll put the Publix brand up against a national brand product and report back.

I know many times I struggle with what brand to choose. Often a sale or a coupon/sale combination make that an easier decision…but what about those times when you need an item and there is not a sale? Do you grab the house brand or pay more and get the national brand? More importantly, is there really a difference in taste?

So Jake got to pick cookies last week and of course Jeb had to have his turn and he chose a different cookie this week. Next week I am doing a rice mix…it’s finally my turn to choose–tee hee!

  • Keebler – 4
  • Publix – 0

As you can see the Keebler cookie was the unanimous winner at my house. Everyone felt that they were a better tasting cookie. My oldest said the chocolate was better and I think I’d have to agree with him. I also thought the Nabisco cookie had a better texture too.

Now we are talking about cookies so there’s really no real nutrition involved but as you’ll notice, the numbers are about the same. I did find it curious that the Publix cookies had more sodium…maybe that was the difference?

Now as you can see I grabbed the Keebler while they were on sale and I had a printable coupon…so I ended up only paying about $1.10 for those. I actually paid more for the Publix cookies this week. So…while the Publix cookies may be a better deal if you go by regular price. If you’ll pick up the Keebler while on sale and use a coupon–it’s a much better option!

Have you tried both cookies at your house? Which one won?
