Coupon Question And Answer – Ask I Heart Publix 10/22

coupon question and answer

We’ve been answering questions for Ask I Heart Publix for over three years now, and we’ve definitely found that some questions keep popping up as new couponers write in. So every month we’re going to feature a “Best Of” Ask I Heart Publix, where we post some of our favorite questions and answers from past weeks, months, and years.

Don’t worry….we’ll still be answering the new questions you guys send in, too, so keep sending in those questions! Just remember if we didn’t get to your question this week…we will do our best to cover it another week!!

Don’t forget to look under the “About” tab where you can find the questions and answers from past weeks!

Here are this week’s “Best of” questions:

  1. I am new – how does couponing work at Publix?
  2. Can you tell me more about Senior Day?
  3. What is the Penny Item this week?
  4. Can I use a total purchase coupon along with a Publix or competitor coupon AND manufacturer’s coupon for each item?
  5. How do you protect your computer from viruses and malware?

And here are the answers!

1. Stephanie wants to know: I am new to couponing. My aunt has been doing it for 3 years and tried to explain via text (kinda confusing). How does couponing work at publix??

Publix is a great place to save as you can use manufacturer’s coupons with store coupons to save big. Publix offers great BOGO sales that are even better when you add in coupons.

You can see the current Publix Coupon Policy here —> Publix Coupon Policy Updated 10/1
I post a sneak peek of the ad on Monday mornings so you have time to get your coupons/shopping list ready. The Super Deals are posted on Tuesday…those are the best deals in the ad. If you want to get your feet wet, you might focus on the Super Deals and go from there.
The Ad & matchups, Super Deals, Unadvertised Publix deals and more are under the PUBLIX DEALS tab in the navigation bar…just hover over that tab and choose where you’d like to go.
Happy saving!

Try Me Tuesday – Publix Vanilla Wafers

public vanilla wafers

Welcome to this week’s Try Me Tuesday. Each week I will grab a new set of products and test them out. I’ll put the Publix brand up against a national brand product and report back.

I know many times I struggle with what brand to choose. Often a sale or a coupon/sale combination make that an easier decision…but what about those times when you need an item and there is not a sale? Do you grab the house brand or pay more and get the national brand? More importantly, is there really a difference in taste?

Publix Vanilla Wafers, 11 oz (serving is 8 cookies- about 11 servings in box), $1.85

Fat – 4g
Sodium – 85 mg
Carbohydrate – 19 g

Ingredients – Wheat Flour, Sugar, Partially Hydrogenated Soybean Oil, Dextrose, Contains less than 2% of: High Fructose Corn Syrup, Salt, Whey, Baking Soda, Artificial Flavor, Ammonium Bicarbonate, Soy Lecithin.

Nabisco Nilla Wafers, 11 oz (serving is 8 wafers- about 10 servings in box), $3.89

Calories – 140
Fat – 6g
Sodium – 115 mg
Potassium – 30 mg
Carbohydrate – 21 g
Fiber – 0 g
Sugars – 11 g

Ingredients – Unbleached Enriched Flour (Wheat Flour, Niacin, Reduced Iron, Thiamine Mononitrate {Vitamin B1}, Riboflavin {Vitamin B2}, Folic Acid), Sugar, Soybean Oil, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Partially Hydrogenated Cottonseed Oil, Whey (from milk), Eggs, Natural and Artificial Flavor, Salt, Leavening (Baking Soda and/or Calcium Phosphate) Emulsifiers (Mono-and Diglycerides, Soy Lecithin).

The nutritional info is not identical as it seems the Nilla Wafers must be a bit larger than the Publix version so keep that in mind when looking at the numbers.

Results

  • Nilla Wafers – 4
  • Publix Vanilla Wafers – 0

Well there was a clear winner this week. We all thought that the Nilla Wafers had a much better taste than the Publix wafers. Now, the Publix cookies weren’t bad but in a side by side taste test there was a clear difference in taste. I fed these to the boys often when they were little but just haven’t really bought them a lot since then. Since I don’t buy a ton of these cookies, personally I wouldn’t really care either way. The price difference is pretty big and I would likely grab the Publix brand and save that extra $2! My husband disagreed and said that if I were making his beloved Banana Pudding, he’d want those Nilla Wafers used.

So let’s hear it…have you tried both? Which do you prefer?
