The following are general guidelines regarding Publix policy. If there is any doubt, please speak with your store for clarification. Different regions will vary in policy and procedure.
- Publix allows the use of one manufacturer coupon AND one store coupon per item purchased. This applies to BOGO items as well
- Publix accepts competitor coupons. Check with your store to confirm who they consider their competitor.
- Publix doubles coupons up to and including $0.50. There are no limits to the number of coupons that will double. Only manufacturer coupons will double. Store and competitor coupons will not double. This policy does not apply to Florida—coupons do not double in Florida
- Publix does not accept expired coupons.
- The Publix Promise guarantees that if during checkout, the scanned price of an item (excluding alcohol and tobacco products) exceeds the shelf price or advertised price, they will give the customer one of that item free. The remaining items will be charged at the lower price.
- Publix accepts internet printables (IP’s). Many Publix will not accept IP’s for free items or IP’s over $5 in value.
- Publix does not limit the number of coupons that can be used per transaction—BUT …after a $50 coupon threshold has been reached, a manager override will be necessary for any additional coupons to be accepted.
- Publix registers also require that the number of coupons and items purchased be equivalent. If you have more coupons than items, a manger override will be required.
- During a BOGO sale, you do not have to purchase two items to receive the discount. BOGO items each ring ½ of the regular price. This is not true in Florida—you must purchase both items as the 1st item rings at full price and the 2nd item rings at zero ($0)
- Publix will gladly give a rain check for any sale item that is not in stock. Some stores will only write RC’s for items in the weekly sales flyer not the Advantage Buy Flyers
- The penny item coupon is valid for use on Wednesday or Thursday (varies by store). The actual coupon can be found in the ad located in the paper (location may vary). Florida does not participate in the penny item promotion.
Publix has excellent customer service and strives for complete customer satisfaction. Being responsible and using coupons appropriately ensures that Publix remains coupon friendly. Some people will say that “flying under the radar” is the best practice. Being 20-30 minutes from the closest store and having two toddlers does not make that a possibility for me! I recommend establishing a rapport with your store staff, asking questions if there is ever a doubt about policy and being an honest couponer. This will help to ensure your shopping is a pleasure

I just got back from Publix. This is the same Publix that I have been going to forever. I always check to make sure that something is allowed before I do it. (I am in Florida so no doubles, no penny items etc.) I have been told by every manager I’ve spoken to that you can stack a Publix coupon with a Manufacturer’s coupon. I have been happily doing this for months. Well- a manager just stepped in as cashier and she handed me back my store coupon (-2.00) and told me she can only take the one coupon (-2.00) not two for the same product. I politely explained that one is a store coupon ( a discount from the store) and one is from the company that makes the product. She wouldn’t budge. I then turned to the cashier I always go to and she said she has always been told it was o.k. to do that and has even been reading blogs that explain how to do this and why it is allowed!! Anyway, she finally took both coupons, I checked to see that (2) 2.00 coupons went through. I paid $46.61 for $94.94 in groceries. I go home happy only to add everything up and it turns out if she didn’t put (2) 1.00 coupons through. I don’t know if she did it on purpose figuring she would get that $2.00 back any way she could, or it was an honest mistake. I am laughing as I write this so I guess I still have a sense of humor. Does anyone know if they have a corporate policy like Target does that we can print out and take with us? It might make it easier for everyone if they did.
Mary, I am not sure what store you are going to, but I have just come home from the one I have shopped at for years. Last week they took ALL my coupons and I even had talked to two differnt customer service/managers with in this month. Today when I went they would not take the coupons. I have called customer relations on their site and as soon as I hear back from them I will let you know what they said. I feel like they are targeting me since they seem to tell me different policies everytime I ask someone in the store. I might unfortunatly might be changing AND DRIVING futher to go to another store.
Hey Mary I got the call back from customer relations they forwarded it on to the area manager. He did call me back and said that they try to leave it up to the store manager to decide who is a competiter. They do not take $$$ of total coupons. I unfortunantly will have to start driving a little further to a store that has told me that they take the coupons I am trying to use (BJ’S wholesale). He said that on the competiter coupons they take they lose $$ on because the other stores of course do not reimburse them. Point is they do NOT have a policy other than no printed coupons over $5, no competiter $$$ of total coupons. Other than that I guess they can change the policy as often as they see fit. Sucks for the people trying to save a buck when you have to spend more gas money to get to a store that WILL take coupons.

tearpads can really be anywhere in the store–in the turnstyle up front, at the CS desk, on product displays, attached to shelves…really anywhere–you just have to keep an eye out
@MonaLisa – I’ve used the $X off $Y competitor coupons from Winn-Dixie before, and I know people who’ve used the same from Piggly-Wiggly. Maybe it depends on the store?
Has anyone tried to use the CVS ecbs at Publix? Will it work. i know we can use the WALgreens cashback coupon but i wasn’t sure bout the CVS. Thanks

I have been using the site ever since you were featured on our local NBC station in Mobile. Since I’m still learning, I had a question about coupons that require mulitple items to be purchased. If the coupon says you get $1 off if you buy 3 cans, would I be able to use 3 coupons since I’m buying 3 cans?

The best advice I can give about changing coupon policies and confusing information from cashiers, etc, is to make a formal complaint with your Publix DM. Try to make the complaint factual, concise, and what resolution you wish in a calm manner. I finally had to do this when I encountered some coupon unfriendly cashiers who were not in compliance with corporate policy. Good luck!
