Frugal Friday Fun – Couponing Saves The Day!

How about some frugal Friday fun?
Kaiti sent in a story that made me giggle. I think it is a great way to kick off a Friday morning…
A few weeks ago I was making a late night dash to Publix to use up the last of my $5/$30 Publix coupons. Fortunately, there are 3 different stores within a 10 mile radius of me. Unfortunately, I had less than an hour to make it to all 3.
Within eye shot of the last store, I got pulled over by the police for speeding… At this point, I’m annoyed because I’m going to miss my last trip to Publix. The police officer came to the window and asked if I knew I was speeding. My response “Yes sir, but I only have 20 minutes left to get to Publix before my coupons expire. So can you write the ticket quickly or just follow me across the street and write it while I’m in the store?”
The police was just tickled pink that I was more concerned with a coupon expiring than the ticket! He couldn’t believe that those “Q-Pon Thingamagigs” (his words) really work. So I told him if I could go in the store and save more than the ticket was worth ($110) would he let me off with a warning? He agreed and off I went!
Thirty minutes later I walked out the store with over $180 in groceries and only $32 out of pocket! Needless to say, after he saw the receipt, I got my warning…. Couponing has really saved the day for me!
