Get Ready For Stamp Out Hunger – May 12th
May 3, 2012
It’s almost time for Stamp out Hunger!
The Stamp Out Hunger food drive, held on the second Saturday in May, has become the nation’s largest single-day food drive benefitting Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization. In 2011, generous Americans donated 70.2 million pounds of food, which marked the eighth consecutive year that at least 70 million pounds were collected by letter carriers.
So you guys can start going through your pantry and gathering up a box (or more) to leave at your mailbox on Saturday 5/12.
On Saturday, May 12th, simply leave a sturdy bag containing non-perishable foods, like canned soup, canned vegetables, pasta, rice or cereal, next to your mailbox before the time of regular mail delivery. Your letter carrier will then collect the donations and deliver them to food banks and pantries in the local community. Make sure that food items are in non-breakable containers, such as boxes and cans.
There is no reason not to give — you just have to take the food as far as your mailbox
I will give you guys a reminder the day before the event!
You can also check out my buddy Tiffany’s efforts to donate –remember she gives us great ways to give each week in her Change for a Change ideas.

Does anyone know if they take/need personal hygiene items and medicine?
i am a letter carrier and as far as I can remember we do not take personal hygiene products or medicine.
I asked on the facebook page and it’s only human food, no pet, toiletries or medicines. No glass containers or expired food.
Last year I put mine inside my mailbox (because of ants!) and raised the flag. Made me feel better anyway, LOL!
