Ask the Readers: Which Products Never Seem To Go BOGO?

April 4, 2012

Ask the Readers: Which Products Never Seem To Go BOGO?Okie dokie guys, it’s time for you to weigh in and help another I Heart Publix reader! This week’s question is one that I know we will all have different answers for, so I thought I would ask everyone to answer. What would you say to someone who asks the following:

Are there some items that just never go BOGO (i.e. lasagna noodles or decaf tea bags)?  Without the BOGO, what is the best price to pay for these items?

Michelle’s answer: Ovaltine!! I have never been able to get a BOGO deal on Ovaltine icon smile Ask the Readers: Which Products Never Seem To Go BOGO? C’mon Nestle spread some BOGO love…my boys drink it every day!  Since I never get a BOGO, I am always watching for a sale. When I get my rare sale I use a coupon to make sure I get the lowest price possible. Anyone remember those glorious $2 Ovaltine coupons….sigh!

  1. Ami says:

Bisquick. I go through so much of that stuff. Never on sale, much less, BOGO.

  2. Publix Chick says:

Folgers coffee. I have seen all kinds of coffee bogos, but none for Folgers. With the price of coffee skyrocketing, if would be nice to have one bogo to stock up!

  3. Jennifer says:

Folgers Instant Coffee, Coffee Creamer(its always on sale but never a BOGO the large tubs or powder creamer), Capri Sun, and alot more that I can’t think of right now lol

    • Carol says:

I’m with you, there’s a lot that I can’t think of right now! lol! How about some BOGO milk?! LOLOL I know… in my sweet dreams!! LOL

      • Janelle King says:

I have a CapriSun coupon that buy three get one free.

      • Sarah says:

I remember about 2 years ago that Smart Balance milk went BOGO and Hood simply smart went BOGO. It was awesome, but have seen that deal only once.

        • Ashley says:

I have been hoping for hoping for a Hood bogo soon…I think the last time it went bogo was winter 2010. I really wish they would do that again.

    • Anne says:

Capri Sun goes BOGO at Winn-Dixie. I’ve never seen it BOGO at Publix.

  4. Nicole says:

Tetley Tea, and that is the only brand I will use and I only use the 100ct box. I’m not a big fan of the really big tea bags when I make ice tea. A good sale price down her is 2/$6, I think I might have seen 2/$5 once. I just use coupons when I can to stock up until the next sale.

  5. Jill says:

Fruit2o 6-pack waters!! They also just went up at my store from $2.99 to $3.79! The usual rare sale price is 2/$5, but I once saw them 2/$4 in a YAB flyer…BOGO would be fantastic!

    • Ashley says:

These went BOGO at some point last year (I’m thinking it was mid to late summer). I rarely buy bottled water buy my nieces love the stuff (and an aunt has the right to spoil them haha). I bought a ton of water for them. I would suggest stocking up on them during the summer. I’m sad to hear that they went up. They might not fit into my “willing to” spend money budget (well unless they give me those pitiful face looks)

    • Pam says:

I believe they are BOGO at Bi-Lo this week

  6. Jen says:

Actually, I just got decaf tea bags (Luzianne) BOGO during the last sales cycle I believe!

  7. Brandy says:

SO true about the Ovaltine! Ovaltine increases milk production when you are nursing so I was going through a LOT and it NEVER went on sale. At least they use to send out coupons every once in a while. The better deal was to get the 2 smaller jugs with the coupons instead of getting one of the big jugs.

    • MichelleA says:

Really Brandy?? (about increasing your supply) I never heard that before! I would have tried it these past 4.5 months if I wasnt weaning off now…. mannnnn! Fenugreek helped for awhile, but now its too late! :P
Good to know for next time though ;)

      • Brandy says:

Yup! When I went to my breastfeeding class before I had my son the lactation consultant that taught the class gave a whole list of things that help and Ovaltine was on the list along with steel cut oatmeal (the real stuff) and almonds. I was drinking it twice a day and I noticed a difference for sure.

      • Birdy says:

Oatmeal helps too! But just not the instant kind.

  8. Feline Pine! It never goes on sale! And, I was completely upset to find that publix increased the price from 5.99 a box to 9.99 a box! WD still has it for 5.99. Walmart has a box twice the size for just 11.99. It seldom has coupons so when I find them I have to stock up.

  9. Haley says:

almost everything organic!! Brands like Kashi, cascadian farms, organic milk, eggs, meat. etc. Also just plain green tea, like Tazo or Lipton doesn’t go BOGO. I try to use coupons and sales on makeup, toilet paper, trash bags, etc. so I can spend more on the healthy stuff we try to eat.

    • Amanda says:

Totally agree about the organic products!! There are those rare organic products every once in a while (they actually did bogo on organic dry pasta during Italian Days), but it is very few and far between. And most of the organic products are rarely even on sale, let alone bogo!

    • tammi says:

Totally agree! It would be nice to have organic jelly or anything else that has a good shelf life to go b1g1!!

  10. Betsy says:

Black olives only go BOGO about once a year. White rice rarely goes BOGO, either. I aim to pay about $0.70/lb for that. Most of the stuff I buy isn’t brand dependent, but it seems no brand goes on sale. Things like canned beets, canned coconut milk, dried pinto beans, anochovy filets (though twice a year, there is a $1/2 coupon in a yellow flyer), and artichoke hearts (the frozen do go Bogo sometimes, but the canned never do).

For almost everything else (except produce and meat), there usually is a BOGO. Sometimes they are slow in coming, but they do eventually swing around.

Michelle–I’ve never had ovaltine in my life (and I have 3 sons under 5 years old, so we’re probably the perfect demographic)! I like to see what other people eat. Sometimes, it’s so different than my own life.

  11. lovedeals says:

baby products. Fabric softener, dryer sheets

    • Scott says:

I am glad my toddler is no longer on baby food. Publix doesn’t run the BOGO on Beech Nut or Earth’s Best baby food hardly at all anymore. They used to have one of these brands BOGO at least twice a month. Now I don’t see it but a couple times per year.

  12. Michelle says:

Secret clinical deodorant and the good razor cartridges ( not the disposables). Those are 2 things my husband and I are picky about so we have to buy them when they go on any sort of sale.

    • milissa says:

You can get these at Walgreens and Cvs super cheap after rewards. Also, if you write Gillette they will send you high-value coupons!

  13. Willowbeth says:

Tahini, any brand! I eat lowfat vegan so like to make my own hummus without all the olive oil and Tahini is sooo expensive. Thank heavens I was able to stock up on Progresso chickpeas during Italian days.

The other item that usually never goes BOGO is Lay’s Baked items but low and behold! they were last week so I stocked up!

    • Holly says:

Please, please, please tell me where in Publix you are finding your tahini! I’ve looked everywhere, and can’t find it and no one can help me find it either!

    • Marisa says:

I get my Tahini at Walmart. Where I live (Palm Beach County, Florida), they stock the same brand as Publix and it is about $2 cheaper per can. I will say I haven’t been buying it a lot in the past year, but that was the difference when I was. I don’t shop at Walmart much, but that is usually on my list to grab when I make one of my every other month or so trips. Also, Nutella :)

Man! I did not know Baked Lays were on sale last week. How did I miss that?!

  14. Lori M says:

Land O Lakes cheese. Too expensive to even use coupons. Also Kcups, any variety. They go on sale but haven’t seen a BOGO like the other coffee.

    • Lindsay says:

Land’o'lakes cheese is one of the reasons I still go to BJs. $3.49/lb and sometimes I’ve printed $1 off coupons. There are stores that charge double that!

    • Olivia says:

I’ve been buying my kcups at Sam’s lately. They have diff brands so the prices are depending on which one you get. They have donut house I think there are 72 cups in the box for $36. Or starbucks brand there’s only 56 for the same price of $36.

  15. Gina says:

Evaporated milk. I use it for coffee creamer so I go through a lot of it.

    • Kaylee says:

Evaporated milk went BOGO at my Publix in South Florida during the Thanksgiving sales. I stocked up like crazy since I had coupons too and never see it go on sale.

  16. LisaR says:

My son will only eat Publix Brand Pizza Bites!! I have Only seen them BOGO one time and Only on sale a few times!!

  17. Patricia says:

Toilet paper!! This stuff is expensive!

  18. Erika says:

Anything organic!!! Why can’t the organic broth be BOGO when the regular is???

  19. Heather S says:

Diapers! That would be the day :)

  20. Ruth says:

Woolite–but at least they put out $3.00 coupons off the $8.99 bottle occasionally.

  21. Erenee says:

Egg Noodles, not that we are big egg noodle eaters, but I’ve had these coupons for months, literally 6 months, waiting for them to go BOGO and they finally expired :-(

  22. Kendra says:

I totally agree about the diapers!!! One can dream, right?!?! =)

  23. Stephanie T. says:

I have recently discovered Wheat Thins chips. They weren’t on BOGO when the Wheat Thins crackers were so it would be nice to get a deal on those!

  24. Ellen says:

Nutella. Wish it would go BOGO

  25. Amy says:

I wish milk would go BOGO. and baby formula! HA! that will be the day! at $15 dollars a can im spending about $200 a month just in baby formula.

  26. Ami says:

Nutella is much cheaper at Target. I don’t use it but my friend’s family does. Every time we go to Target during lunch, that is one of her must-have items.

  27. milissa says:

Vitalicious sandwiches! They have gone on bogo 1 time in the last two years. mmmmm Nutella bogo, I would be so fat!

  28. Andrea says:

Jiff peanut butter!! Not since November has it been a BOGO!!

    • Melissa Ramadan says:

Amen to that!!! Even with the recent coupon, they were still cheaper at Costco! We will only eat Jif here!

  29. Kristi says:

    Baby formula & diapers!!!!

  30. Jessica P says:

I’ve only been shopping at Publix since last winter, but I have never seen Diet Mt. Dew BOGO. I know it’s not the best drink but I’m addicted and would love to get it cheap!

  31. Kaylee says:

I love to see veggies and produce go BOGO. My Publix’ do it occasionally and it makes me so happy.

Like many have said, would love to see BOGO on eggs or milk : )

  32. tammi says:

Next time gelato and alexia fries go b1g1 I’m going to stock up way more than I did last time!!

  33. tampatwinmom says:

fresh squeezed OJ- once a yr at the begining of the yr seems like it for BOGO. I bought so many thtne, but could not store any more in the fridge or freezer. My kids drink it like crazy since they don’t drink much milk and we get the calcium oj

    • tammi says:

If you have an Ingles by you they have Tropicana OJ for only $2 …..I ended up price matching it at Walmart since we go through so much too.

  34. Kime' says:

Hmm bogo I agree diapers, wipes, nutella, oh how about tide! Show some tide love! Sugar, flour, nestle quick! We go through some nestle quick for sure.

  35. Anna says:

    Diapers! hahaha
Also: Nutella, Pillsbury bisquits, Milk (yeah, right). I just noticed I’m not the first to mention the same items))

    • kris says:

milk had a coupon for free milk when yb 3 breakfast items for the past month… you have to watch the coupons…

  36. Chelsea says:

Heinz Ketchup! It’s the only brand we’re truly loyal to and it’s so hard to get a good deal on beside a 2 for $4 at Publix every now and then

  37. Connie says:

    Mots for tots juice

    • heather says:

Can’t you just make your own from regular 100 percent juice….just add water? Then you aren’t paying for water.

  38. Heather says:

Pampers Diapers. Especially the boxes in BabyDry or Cruisers. From what I’ve found, about the most I’ve been getting with coupons off is about $7.50 per box. If they run on sale for usually about $20, that’ll get the boxes down to about $12.50. The only time I’ve gotten them for super cheap was when a box of Pampers diapers I had were expelling the gel beads and I complained to the company. They sent me a ton of coupons for $10 off a box and those combined with Publix coupons got me about $15 off per box. Those should run BOGO all the time! I would stock up!!!!!

  39. Crazedmommyof3 says:

Vitamin water (dragon fruit flavor!). It has been 10/10 on occasion, but bogo would be awesome! Especially because I’m holding onto some .50/1 coupons from whole foods!

  40. Carter says:

International foods…and I don’t mean Old El Paso dinner kits:). I’d like to see all the asian sauces, canned coconut milk, curries, etc go bogo. Also, the specialty rices…jasmine, basmati, arborio, etc. Vinegar, capers, roasted red peppers, spices, etc

  41. Melissa says:

Nutrigrain Bars, and Special K bars and Pop Tarts. The cereal is always BOGO, but never the bars. its always 2/$5 or something like that. Juice BOXES do not go BOGO near often enough either. Only 1 time this whole year so far :\. P&G products NEVER go BOGO, nor do Lunchables. For that matter, I think I would purchase ANY TP or paper towels if they went BOGO! and MEAT! Winn Dixie always puts meat on BOGO. Meat is one of the few things I do not buy at Publix, unless they give us a $2 coupon like this week.

  42. RN1 says:

I wish the Carnation Instant Breakfast would go BOGO. The last time I saw it on sale at Publix was late last summer and it wasn’t even BOGO…it was something like 2/$10. I usually can get a fair sale on it once or twice a year at Kroger, though. Next time it is on sale I will be buying about 100 boxes, so I hope they are ready, LOL! With my three boys, we go through a couple boxes a week. I sure hope there are coupons when it does finally go on sale, and it would be great if it went BOGO.

  43. Jennifer says:

Noxema eye brow razors. I never tweeze or wax and I spent 2.99 on 3 of these bad boys. I use one every 10 days or so…

  44. Lynne says:

$50 gas cards or gift cards lol. ;)

  45. Michelle says:

How about Bud Light? Oh, wishful thinking…

  46. Sandra says:

Dreamfields pasta! It only goes on sale for 3 for $5. Even at that price it’s still one of the most expensive pastas and coupons are hard to come by. Hubby is diabetic and it’s the only pasta he can eat without spiking his sugar.

  47. sara224 says:

for the moms looking for a discount on formula…I have a few of those $5.00 off Similac coupons…if you want them reply to this post and I will send them to you. I hate to see nice coupons go to waste and know every mommy can use a discount!

  48. Laura says:

When I buy formula, I use the checks the manufacturers send you in the mail. I signed up everyone I know for formula checks. My store manager said b/c they are “checks” that I could use more than one on a product, so I could get 1 powder pack and use enough checks to cover the cost. Also, the one time I bought coupons on ebay was for a $5 of any Similac coupon. The liquid bottles were $3.46 at Wal-Mart and that covered the cost of buying coupons. So, I haven’t paid for formula and baby girl just turned 1.
