Hurst Family Harvest Beans For Healthy & Delicious Meals + A Giveaway!

Last week I shared with you guys my recipe for Creamy Chicken & Black Bean Enchiladas that I made with Hurst Family Harvest beans. It looks like so far you guys gave it 4.5 stars out of 5…not bad at all!
Hopefully lots of you guys have started stocking your pantry with the Hurst beans while they are on sale for $1.99 per bag. If not, you still have time to save – they will remain $1 off retail through 2/24. Dried beans have a nice long shelf life so definitely grab them while they are on sale.
Last week we talked a little bit about how beans are a fantastic way to stretch your budget. Using the recipes on the bag, the all natural seasoning packet, and a few additional ingredients you can easily make a meal for four or more for well under $10! I like to cook up the beans and use them over multiple meals to get the most bang for my buck (or $1.99 in this case–tee hee!)
This week I thought I would remind you about the nutritional benefits of beans. The USDA suggests 2 – 3 cups of veggies every day as part of a healthy diet (specific amounts depend on age, gender and activity level). Beans and peas make up one of the five subcategories in the veggie category. Beans and peas are even considered a unique food as they are not only veggies but also considered part of the protein food group due to their high nutrient content. Beans provide great nutrition, high fiber plus they taste fantastic!
All of my guys love beans and I use them to make sure they get as many veggies in them as possible. I struggle to get my guys to eat asparagus and brussels sprouts but never worry that they will turn their nose up when I serve beans! Affordable, versatile and healthy…seriously, how can you go wrong??

I am committed to making this year a good one, on Jan. 1 I quit smoking and started a new “diet” of my own. I have always liked fruits and veggies, but never really ate them. So I decided that my family and I will be eating more of them everyday. My newest and favorite finding…avocados they are the bomb and am totally addicted to them! My next “adventure” was to be beans-cook with them more and cut out so much fatty meats…this is a perfect opportunity to do so! Thanks for the recommendation!!

I had the red beans the other night. I made the recipe on the back of the package. Put it over brown rice and used turkey sausage instead of regular sausage. The whole family loved it, plus we have leftovers in the freezer!

I want to try the red bean soup ones. My sister in law is from Columbia and makes the best red beans and rice so I can’t wait to try to make her recipe. I’ve heard nothing but great things about the beans so I’m sure they’re to make my little “experiment” taste so yummy!!!!
So far, we’ve tried the 15 bean soup and the tri-bean soup. Both were great, but the tri-bean was our favorite. We just followed the recipe on the bag and added a ham bone. AWESOME!!!

I’ve tried the white, red, and black beans, and I’ll be purchasing the other two varieties when I do my stock up this week (while they are still on sale!).
Dried beans on an almost daily staple in my vegetarian household, so I know my dried beans (hehe!). Hurst beans are obviously fresh and have very few irregular beans in the pack. I also haven’t found any rocks in the packages.

I’m planning on buying the Traditional Split Pea Soup. I just made it for the first time in my adult life last year, and it came out so-so. I’m hoping I can make it better with these awesome beans.

The Tri-bean soup looks fabulous. I have never tried this product before and I am new to I Heart Publix and have just recently switched to all my shopping at Publix. I can’t wait to try this soup!!!!!
