Weekly Totals 12/23 – End Of The Year Wrap Up!

December 23, 2011

Weekly Totals 12/23 End Of The Year Wrap Up!It is time to tally up our yearly spending. I keep mine in a handy little spreadsheet so that I can add to it each week after I post here on the site. Honestly it is more so I can see how I did at the end of the year…I never total anything until right before I do my end of the year checkup. I like to do my final numbers the week before the end of the year so that just in case I am under budget, I can be sure and use any excess money. Of course that had never happened…but you never know – maybe next year!

I am very happy to tell you guys that I spent $2113.72 this year. That means I almost nailed my yearly goal. That is an average of $40.65 per week. Now, that is my total after any gift cards that I earned or was given as gifts that I used to reduce my spending. While some folks may use their gift cards to buy purses and shoes, I like to use rebate money and gift cards to keep my grocery budget as low as possible.

Of course I realize that this will not appeal to everyone. Even some of my friends pick on me for my shopping habits. But, I like a good challenge. After all, I have lots of other things I prefer to spend my money on other than groceries icon biggrin Weekly Totals 12/23 End Of The Year Wrap Up!

Ok…so here is what I got this week.

Smart Balance Milk x 4 = $4
Bananas $3.76
Worcestershire Sauce  = 85¢
Sorrento Mozzarella  $1.79
Rondele = $0
Kraft Cheese x 2 = $4
Oreos x 2 = $4.98
Crisco Oil x 4 = $5.60
Grapes = $3.90
Chinet Napkins x2 = $2.16
Plugra Butter x 2 = $3.78
Ritz x 3 = $1.09

I spent right under $40 this week thanks to a big shop last week. I am happy that I will have my milk covered for the next week or so too!

Now, I’d love to hear how you guys have done this week and this year. Leave a comment or link to your weekly/yearly totals.

My totals include taxes and all groceries including health and beauty, cleaning etc… I have a separate budget for entertainment (eating out, etc)

The total does NOT include my produce delivery which is $1000 for the year (that was paid for out of my personal fund as a test for the year) I was very pleased so I will be continuing next year.

Less than $10 for everything shown above and more. Having a local product market is so great!

    And from Publix,
    http://26.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lwo7fiUJKi1qfpv57o1_500.jpg
This $32 bill included 10 bottles of juice, 10 pounds of pasta, 11 bottles of vitamins, 3 packages of cheese, 2 bags of dog treats, 4 packing envelopes, 6 cans of broth, 2 cans of coconut milk, 4 boxes of cereal, 2 jars of pasta sauce, milk, butter, bread, and more!

My biggest savings yet. I’m really proud of myself!

  10. Jessica says:

For the year, I budgeted $100 per week for groceries for my family of three (two adults plus a one year old.) Then someone introduced me to I Heart Publix, and I learned so much about both my spending habits and couponing. I am so proud to say that instead of spending $5200 in groceries this year, I spent roughly $2400. Not only did I cut my budget in half, but we actually have more food (and more quality food!) than I had been purchasing previously. I have a closet of stockpiled items, and a freezer full of meat and veggies. Now that we are moving out of diapers, I look forward to spending even less next year, as I now average about $30 per week on groceries.

I cannot thank you enough for all that you do. I am a stay at home mother, and our grocery money unfortunately comes out of our savings. Every dollar that I can save and stretch equals more time at home with my son.

…and as for the extra money that I didn’t spend on groceries…we were able to make the down payment on a family car for my husband. There is no way we could have done this without coupons. It’s sounds dumb to say that coupons can change your quality of life, but it truly can.

  11. Pat says:

    Thanks for the great inspiration!

When our computer crashed I lost the link to the post you made a few months ago showing the work you were doing to your home. It’s kept me motivated to keep couponing even when it feels there just isn’t enough time. :-)

  12. Jessica R. says:

Hello! I didn’t really have a budget because this is my first year doing the couponing thing. I haven’t had the moment to even go to the grocery store this passed week (thankfully I’m STOCKED up!).. So, my yearly totals (starting from May until now) are:
    Spent: $1,278.21
    Worth: $3,747.06
    Saved: $2,470.79 (65.94%)

I don’t guess that is too bad since I used to spend $400 a month on groceries – at minimum.

  13. sandy says:

I discovered your site the beginning of this year and ever since then I am on your site almost everyday.. I saved ALL my receipts for the year of 2011 from Publix to see if my coupon work was worh it… the figures are as follows:

    Spent $2,259.61
    Saved $4,780.17

Spent amount divided by 52 weeks I averaged about $43.45 a week on groceries…
Thanks for all your work on posting the match up’s
    Happy New Year..
    Sandy

how do you guys keep tabs on your spending throughout the year? I”m wanting to start the year off right with having a ‘real’ budget (dave ramsey), and having a place where i can see at any given point what i have spent exactly on food. anyone have excel worksheets they would be willing to share? i’m super stoked for the new year. i have no clue what we spent last year. we are a family of 5, but we moved and spent way too much while living out of hotels and crap for 2 months! and i’m starting over since i used up my entire stockpile that i had shoved into every inch of my van hehe. thanks!!!

    • sandy says:

I did mine the hard way I saved every receipt in a folder and had my daughter add them up Yesturday…She couldn’t wait to add them up…lol..
      Happy New Year..
