Giveaway – Thanksgiving Feast For Two Families

You know that saying – “kids say the darndest things”. Well, my little Jake really got me thinking tonight. We have been talking about Thanksgiving – what it means and what we do. They have also been talking about it in his kindergarten class. He has been coming home with new details each day.
We have been talking about the different foods that we eat on Thanksgiving. Jake watched me stick all my turkeys in my deep freeze last week and of course asked why we had all those turkeys. He wondered if we were going to eat them all on Thanksgiving. Tonight, Jake asked me a question that touched my heart. My little 5 year old boy asked me “What about the people who can’t buy turkeys – what are they going to eat?”
Jake and I talked, we decided that we should help a couple of folks with their Thanksgiving meal. I decided that I am giving one reader a $50 Publix gift card to cover a delicious holiday feast!
Now, since this is a time for giving – I am adding a little twist. I will also send the winner an additional $50 Publix gift card but this one must be given away to someone else. Maybe someone you know needs a “Thanks” or maybe there is someone you know who deserves some “Giving”.
I know I am cutting it close. If I am going to be able to even hope to get a gift card to my winner in time, I am going to have to make this one super quick. So, if you would like to win the $50 to use and $50 to give, just leave a comment on this post letting me know who will get the 2nd $50 Publix gift card and why.

The second $50 gift card would go to a friend of mine in California. She just had her first baby a few weeks ago and is already struggling with needing to go back to work to help support her family. You have a great idea in paying it forward! I will use it for Thanksgiving grocery shopping. I will give the extra card to a family in need from my church, Lake Springs Baptist Church. Since I have been couponing, I have been able to assist this family with toilet paper, soaps and other health and beauty products. It would be phenomenal to help then with food.

She somehow managed to put herself through nursing school while holding a 40hrs+ intership and running a household with two teenagers and a toddler. This woman is an inspiration to anyone who thinks they don’t have the money or time to better themselves and their life. I have a neighbor that the man and woman have lost their job in the last 6 months. My wife and I have given them a 50 dolalr gift card to them last month to help them out. So ya we could use them and will go to a great place and very much needed

My mom. She’s lost her home. Her husband is out of work and her sister has cancer along with her father in law. After working 60 hour weeks, she tries to help us and everyone around her. She deserves something. Besides tomorrow is my son and her birthday together, she should buy a cake.

Gosh…a $50 Publix gift card would be such a blessing right now. The cupboards are pretty darn bare and with Thanksgiving in sight I would love to give my family a feast! $50 would for sure take care of that! The other card I would give to my friend. We’ve known eachother for nearly 14 yrs now and today she got her tooth pulled:( Not at all fun and not all helping their pocketbook. Hmmm there a some pretty deserving candidates for this one… but I think I’d give mine to my mother in law, who has recently finished her battle with breast cancer. The bills of treatments have been tremendous, and she could use a little extra “giving” this Holiday!

This woman is very giving and always willing to help out if we are in a bind. To make things worse, her mother is sick and in West Virginia. She is not able to get up there due to finances. My In-Laws. They have always been there for the “kids”. Now it is our time us all to give back. With the economy that is impossible. To see them downsize so much it just doesn’t seem right. Well this is one small way I can help.
I would really love to give the second to a needy family I know. Single mom, twin toddlers. but I would use my gift card to make more purchases for donating. I did what I could but it wasn’t that much in my opinion (of myself), would love to do more.

I would give the second giftcard to my husband to give to a needy family at the school he works at. Over 70% of the students receive free or reduced lunch. They are always in need of donations to help out these families.

This gift card would help our family out so much – we are a single-income family in Florida – and couponing here is not the easiest. I would share the extra gift card with one of my husband’s co-workers who is a single mother and is going through a rough patch.

I would find someone that just looked like they needed a helping hand or maybe just someone to say “Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours”. I would give the $50 to a family I know. They do not have much at all but they are spend tons of resources and time for others. They set up “free” garage sales so families in a local apartment complex can get things they need for free. They don’t take for themselves even when there are things they would love to have themselves.
They are also going to set up a “store” where the kids can come and shop for free to get their parents and families Christmas presents.
Plus, they are trying to organize personal care items for each family such as soap, laundry detergent, razors, toilet paper, etc.
They have set up free tutoring at these apartment complexes, bible studies, and so much more! It is amazing!!
They have taught their children to be giving as well. Their 12 year old daughter started doing fundraisers to be able to feed the homeless.
They don’t think of themselves. They always think of others. They are an inspiration for sure!

I would give the gift card to Aspire Charter Academy in Orlando. This school helps childen with emotional disabilities who can not function in regular classrooms. Some of the children come from families who can not cope with their emotional behaviors and Aspire works very hard to teach the families positive reinforcement when these children act up. Some are abused and misbehave out of fear and anger. Aspire needs snacks and treats to help these children function throughout the day as they may not have any other meals than breakfast, lunch and snacks they receive at school.

I would give the gift card to my grandmother. She has lived her entire life giving to others. If there is ever family that she knows,that is in need or has had a family crisis, she is always there cooking for the family. She is the most selfless person that I know. She also lives on a very fixed income, and she sometimes struggles month to month. This would be a HUGE help to her especially at the Holidays, with her grocery bill.
I would give the $50 card to my church that runs a local food pantry. That way they can buy exactly what they need to feed hungry families during the holidays. They just mentioned recently that there is an increase in the number of people coming by looking for food. Hard times are definitely here.
I have a friend who is a nurse whose husband became suddenly ill last year. She is working so hard. It’s her turn to host thanksgiving but she had to cancel it because she can’t afford to buy the meal. Though her family understands, she is struggling. Yes, she is a nurse and has a job but the medical bills… I would actually give her both and whisper in her ear to pay it forward. And I know she would. Actually she does pay it forward with how well she takes care of her patients each day. I just know she’s tired but would use this card and feel its grace. What a great idea. We just had our county commissioners rule to limit panhandling and I know of a group of transients that would always appreciate some groceries. If given the stewardship of a $50 Publix giftcard, I would purchase and make some Thanksgiving care packages for several of them.

I would give the second gift card to my mother-in-law. Three years ago, when my hubby lost his job, his mom bought us food and helped us to keep our kids well fed during the 2 1/2 year job search. They have now hit some hard times with some medical bills and house expenses and are living on little social security and retirement. I would give both gift cards to the Servis family. My friend Aubree passed away from breast cancer in September,two weeks after giving birth to her 5th child, who was delivered at 30 weeks. Her husband, James in now a single father with five young children, including a preemie. Needless to say, their family is really struggling right now.

They are on a fixed income and the wife suffered a stroke earlier and they are having a hard time. When I moved into my home, they were the first to welcome me and my family. Before I read you were going to give away TWO gift cards, I immediately thought I’d give it away if I won.
I have a student (I teach 700 of them) who has nothing. This boy was coming to school without uniform clothes and he’d wear his tee shirts inside out so he’d have on a solid uniform color. The kids were teasing him for being dirty and a child stole his Pokemon cards and ran down the hall with them. When he chased after the boy, he got in trouble and his cards were taken away. The boy melted down and cried hysterically. The Pokemon cards were his only toy because his “family is poor.” My heart broke. This was an academically gifted student who had no self worth, no clothes, and no toys. I have been collecting uniform clothes from many different places and delivering them to his family through a local church. If I won the Publix gift card, I’d most definitely give it to this family. I’d probably give them both.
My neighbor and friend Jewel Hayes. Her names fits her. She is always, always helping someone. She has always been here for me when things go haywire in our lives. She always has a smile and a helping hand. She has been my neighbor for over 25 years and I have witnessed her many giving moments to people in need.

I would love to give it to my great friends that is on my son’s baseball team. We have been friends for 7 years and they have always been struggling with finances. It seems like every month they have something go wrong, whether it’s something wrong with the car, one of their 4 kids are sick or an unexpected expense. If I were to win, I would give the 2nd card to my friend at work that got me hooked on couponing, I started 3 weeks ago and my stash has grown, she told me it would be about 3 or 4 Sundays before I get the good deals due to quantity of coupons. But thats not the thanks. The thanks is, we work police dispatch and in our line of work, we help people everyday and a lot of times people are rude, cuss us out and just demand service right away and do not cooperate with us on the phone sometimes, I had one today. When we do get the thanks, it goes a long ways, but we just dont hear it a lot. Yes we get the “thanks for the answer,” but its the “thanks for your work and all you do for us” that makes us feel good, and when somebody calls about an officer, I send them the message that they did a good job. So this thanks would go to Karen D. who does a good job at work and I appreciate, this year we get Thanksgiving off.

I would give my 2nd publix gift card to my mother. She has been struggling with my 13 yr old brothers liver disease. She was just told that that he will need a 2nd liver translplant soon and to enjoy the holidays while they can. I know money is tough since my mother can only work occasionally with my brother being hospitalized frequently and requiring weekly doctors appointements. Gas giftcards and food giftcards are the best gift she can have.

I would give the second card, and many of the proceeds from my purchases with the first card, to We Care of Navarre FL. This is a food pantry run by my church. We are in a county where more than half the school children qualify for subsidized school lunch. There is a lot of hunger here. People have been asking when they are getting Thanksgiving supplies – and the pantry has been running low on staples like PBJ, canned milk, etc. They also help on a limited basis with bill payment and financial counseling.
People at my church give me coupons, knowing that I need the help and that I do give back. I think this would be a nice way to recognize that.

Love this idea! I am a teacher at a economically disadvantaged school. Every year, we donate complete dinners to some of our student’s family. Usually a local church donates the turkeys but they were not able to do it this year. A $50 Publix gift card would make an awesome addition to a family in need!

She is always thinking about others before herself. Some people in our office gave her $25 for her birthday & you would have thought she won the lottery. On November 17, 2003, I took my two sons, then 7 and 2 and we went to the Sunshine Center. A week before Thanksgiving, I knew I had to leave home and go to a safe place. The Sunshine Center is a battered women’s shelter in our area. We spent Thanksgiving and Christmas there in the shelter. Then we went into a longer term setting where the moms get life skills training and the kids get tutoring and counseling.We left the program in 2005 after I felt like I had learned enough and I knew that I would not allow anyone else to hurt me (or my kids). When we left the program, they continued to provide aftercare and families volunteered to help with Thanksgiving Dinner and Christmas Dinner/gifts. I will be forever grateful to everyone who helped my famly through this agency. It was very difficult taking my kids away from our home, but I knew my only other option was death. For people in simislar situations, I want them to feel the love that we felt during that very difficult time. I want to give back to a family at the Sunshine Center!!!
In my neighborhood, we have a homeless woman. She was displaced by “development” that never happened. My 4 yr old dd asked me the other day where she sleeps and when i said she doesnt have a home madison insisted that we offer her some of her allowance to help. I would give the gift card to her so my daughter can truly learn the meaning of giving and helping. But ultimately she will learn what it is to receive from the gift of giving!
I am actually fortunate enough that my Thanksgiving has already been purchased thru my own coupons and savings. I’ve bought a meal fit enough to feed the 20 people that will be here all while staying within my monthly budget. So, my wish would be for my friend Rachael to get one. She is a single mom with 3 kids. 2 of them are teenage boys. She tries her best but because she doesn’t get any help from the father of the children, she is forced to work 2 jobs so couponing and taking care of the 3 kids leaves very little time to focus on saving money. Plus she is just above the guidelines to qualify for any state help. She’s just getting by.
The other card, I would love to go to one of my best friends- Cherie. Her and her husbands home was affected in the Tennessee floods last May. She had just given birth to her 2nd son two weeks before the flood occurred. She spent a year cramped in her inlaws living room thankful for the roof over her head and has been fortunate enough to finally be able to rent an apartment. Her and her husband both work full time. Along with being a special education teacher, she tutors and does odd jobs just to be able to pay her bills. (Nothing illegal). So, she also has had a hard time trying to keep up with the cost of living. So I know $50 to both of these ladies would be like $500 to you and me. Thank you for the consideration!

I would give my mom the second gift card. My mother is an amazing woman! My mom has never been rich, but has always worked 60+hours every week to make sure her kids had everything they needed. She has not had it very easy the past 8 years or so, but she instilled in her 4 daughters to enjoy and appreciate even if life is difficult. Now that I am grown up and have my own family, I look back and I am so grateful to her for all her hard work. She truly is the definition of a generous spirit. I am forever grateful for the values she’s instilled in me and my sisters! This gift card would alleviate some of her stress, and would be a great but small way to say “thank you.”
I could so use an extra $50. I am in nursing school full time with an 18 month old, living off a cops salary. I would give the other $50 to a friend of mine that is a single mother unable to find a job.
I would give it to the local senior citizens center because those folks feed SO MANY of our precious elders who either can’t afford ‘extras’ or they are homebound and unable to attend an activity outside of their own home. Additionally, I regularly hear about centers losing grants or other sources of funding.

They always need food and treats and toys for the animals and do such a wonderful job taking care of all the animals and work endless hours trying to find good homes for such good dogs and cats. She has a big heart and is a very no noncense type of person. She would probably spend the money on the kids at her church. With her there is never a question it will go to someone in need.She is on a fixed income and takes very little from the kids that she babysits. This would defenately help her out.

In August she got in trouble for sticking up for one of the kids who is stuck in a custody battle between 2 parents who act like children. She ended up losing her job because one of the parents insisted, and lied. I helped find her a temporary job but I know it is not going to be forever. She has taken such good care of my kids and I hate that she needs help now. I’d give her all I could so that she doesn’t have to worry. If I won the gift cards, I would give the other card to my neighbor, Lisa. My husband I have no family here in South Carolina since we moved from Camp Pendleton in California. I was close to having my first child when we moved into the neighborhood, and Lisa always came to check on me since I stayed home alone while my husband worked. She quickly became like a family member, and the following year, she hosted a wonderful baby shower when I was pregnant with our second baby. She invited a lot of women from the neighborhood, and I got to meet a lot of great people. It was like being back at home! She even came to see me at the hospital when I was in labor and dropped off a beautiful pink rocking horse. A local family, who has kind, nice, wonderful children ages 15-3 has been struck with a tragedy. The 3 year old daughter has a very rare, UN-operable form of brain cancer. Her oldest sister is who I know because she was an amazing assistant at Vacation Bible School. The little sister is under going treatment in hopes it will make a difference. The treatment is so expensive and has created a financial burden – added to the emotional burden. This family would be blessed to receive a grocery gift card.

Her one son had a liver transplant two years ago, another son had ear surgery and two weeks ago her oldest daughter had a large tumor removed from her pancreas. (they had to remove her spleen also in the process) We are all rejoicing that the tumor was NOT cancer! Their whole family has much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.

Honestly, I would keep both. In place of the second card, I’d donate an extra fifty dollars (of my grocery budget) to a local charity. Many years ago, this charity was there for me when I had nothing, not even a safe place to sleep at night. Without them, I’m not sure how I would have made it through that winter. With everyone struggling in one way or another these days, they are hurting for help feeding the homeless everyday, not just for a special Thanksgiving dinner.

Every holiday I feel so heart-broken that our firefighters are left in their stations for a solid 24 hours without being able to be at home with their families for holidays. This year is my son’s first Thanksgiving and I couldn’t imagine my husband not being there to share the joy with us as a whole family. I would love to donate the extra $50 gift card to the men in the fire station across from my street that are willing to put their lives on the line for us. Even if they do not use the gift card for the holiday, I know they grab lunches and dinner from Publix, as I see their fire trucks parked in the back of the parking lot and they go shopping as a group. How great it would be to give back to them, and let them enjoy a meal without spending their truly hard-earned money.
We have had some unexpected expenses this year, including a new baby. Even though we are going through our own personal trials right now, we are thankful and blessed because we understand that there are many who are less fortunate than we are. Sometimes our problems seem big to us, but they really are pretty small compared to other people’s problems. If given the gift cards, I would donate one to our local Ronald McDonald House to add food to their kitchen. Both of our children are healthy, and we understand that the holidays can be a tough time for parents who have children in the hospital. There are many parents who rely on the Ronald McDonald House and I would like to give them a reason to be thankful this thanksgiving for a place like this in our community.
My cousin who lost her husband two yrs ago and whose two sons (17 & 14 were in a serious wreck two weeks ago. One has a broken neck (is in a halo for 3 months his sr. year of high school) the other has a broken pelvis and broken ankle. She is strongest person I know and really deserves something good.

I would give it to a close friend of mine who was just diagnosed with cancer. And her husband just got laid off. They have two little girls too. This would be perfect for them.

I would give the 2nd gift card to my mother in law Sherri, this is our first thanksgiving living in a new area with her nearby, and with our 10 week old baby boy. Sherri recently lost her job, which led to the loss of her house, and had to give away her pets she’s had since my husband was a kid. She insists on doing a big Thanksgiving and wants to bring the whole family together for it despite her situation. She doesn’t want any help from us, and is only accepting a veggie tray from us and “nothing else” though I know she needs it. Now that I “must” give this card away I have no choice =)

There is a family in the area that lost everything in an apartment fire. Apartment = no insurance to cover the loss. She’s a single mother of two children and works very hard to make ends meet, let alone replace things. Sometimes the worst things happen to the best people. You have a great family for thinking of this and doing something to help others. That is why the first thing that came to mind was my family. Even though I’m a poor college student (who lives off of your deals!) I would definitely give both of the cards to each side of my family. My boyfriend of 5 years’ mother was just diagnosed with breast cancer. She is divorced but still manages to help out each of her three kids in any and every way she can. Now that she has been out of work because of all the surgery I would love to do something for her. And the other card would definitely go to my parents. My dad has been laid off three times now (but has a interview Tues!!) My parents have made so many sacrifices for my sister and I that I know they would probably use it to give food right back to us but they truly are awesome people who would deserve that gift!
My brother, sister-in-law and mother definitely. My mom moved in with my brother and sister-in-law about 2 months ago (they are all 8 hours from me) to help with expenses and my sister-in-law who continues to have seizures from a car accident she was in almost 10 years ago. My brother has been unemployed for almost a year (electrician) and unable to look for work because her seizures are bad and he is afraid to leave her home alone. I have a 13 yr old Cystic Fibrosis patient who is not doing very well. When he comes to clinic his smile and positive attitude brightens my day. He was seen today in clinic currently on 2 Liters of Oxygen and just a ray of sunshine. He was recently released from the hospital after a 1 week stay with very high possibility he would require a re-admission (after today’s visit). He keeps refusing the re-admission because he kept saying how he didn’t want his mom and dad to miss any more work, they have 4 other kids they have to take care of and he did not want to spend Thanksgiving in the hospital but rather as a family. We plan to see him back on Monday in hopes he does not have to get re-admitted, if he does he will be spending Thanksgiving in the hospital. I hope and continue to pray he will get better. To my son who is unemployed or a family at preschool who recently lost a child.
There is a family in our congregation at church. The father had been virtually unemployed for a few years and the wife did not work-yet they were very generous with their time in helping out other people in need. They were about to lose their home when a big job that the husband had been working on for a while finally came through and they were able to save their home. I was especially glad for this because it meant that they would not have to move away. They actually invited my family and I over for Thanksgiving dinner and this would be an awesome way to repay them for all that they have done for those around them. We love them!
I work for a Social Services agency and we have adopted a mom and her 4 yr old son for the Holidays. Despite her hardships she makes sure he gets to every single educational event we hold. She’s an awesome mom and he’s a beautiful little boy. Because of mitigating circumstances, she does not qualify for financial assistance or food stamps. I would give both to her so she can provide for her and her son for the Holidays.

We now feed about 40 families a week and it has grown exponentially each year.its not a huge food pantry but God always seems to provide just enough for us to help those that come in need. They don’t turn anyone away if they ask they give. The downturn in the economy has affected all levels of people. Just because someone may not qualify for government assistance it doesn’t mean they don’t have a need for food and we want to be there for them. The food for our pantry comes. Primarily from donations from members who some are in hard times themselves. The gift cards would help provide meals for Thanksgiving ,Christmas and maybe beyond. I would give the gift card to a family who’s main provider was in a horrible accident while on the job three weeks ago that left him as a double amputee and in the burn unit in a medically induced coma. His son was present when it happened, his daughter had to quit college and his wife is trying to keep the family afloat as it was a family business. They have been so gracious to my mother since my Dad passed away and I wish that there was more that I could do for them during this tragic time.

My friend hooked me to couponing but her biggest complaint is not having funds to even begin to stockpile. I would love to just give that to her! She deserves it because she has always been a caregiver for other people, not only as a home health aide, but also as the shoulder to lean on for everyone in our family. I am very proud to say she has made me the person I am today. She is now a cancer survivor living on a very meager Social Security check and greatly deserves this wonderful gift. Cooking is still her one of her greatest pleasures and she gets enormous joy in making goodies for her great grandchildren.

I work with at-risk children and families and would love to be able to provide one of my struggling families with a $50 gift card. I am working with a domestic violence survivor who left her batterer with her 3 young children (ages 7, 4, and 2) in tow. She left Georgia three weeks ago (because he had found them again) and came to Florida and has been living at a shelter. My agency is working with the family to get her out of the shelter and into a place of her own. She has no car and really only the clothes and necessities that they brought with them. She found a job right away and is working at a preschool now. I am teaching her couponing and this would be a fun test of her shopping skills thus far. Due to funding cuts, my agency can’t do as much as we would like and this would truly be a blessing for this family. It would be awesome to win this….this time of year! I have typed about 3 different people that I would give this to & the I would erase & start over because I thought of someone who may need it more. A friend who is disabled & provides alot for her grandchild, a woman raising her 2 great-grand children, who’s husband had a stroke a few months ago & is no longer able to help support them. A family who’s child has been in the hospital for over a week in severe pain & they can’t seem to find the problem. I can think of so many people, it would be a hard decision but it would go to someone that could truly use it!!
My neighbor has an adult autistic son whom she is raising and then this wonderful woman is also raising her two very young grandchildren. Both have special needs but the youngest has a more severe form of autism. Like many, she struggles, but her plate is especially full. It would be nice to fill it with something good.
I’d give one to my parents in-law, they deserve it, they work hard but don’t get paid enough to always buy food for the table everyday. I’ve only just started couponing, slowly getting things I need and things I could get for them as well. That would be a perfect gift for them.
I am a teacher at a school where 90% of the students receive free or reduced lunches. While we are able to give some help we can not help everyone. We have a family that really struggles. The daughter has lupus. The medical bills and travel just to get to the specialist at Shands (a 2 hour drive) are overwhelming for this family. Yet they have a wonder attitude and the little girl is so sweet spirited. She never complains! I would love to be able to share this special Thanksgiving gist with this family.

I would love to be able to give BOTH cards to my step-son and his family. They had a new baby boy on Monday. Both he and his wife are currently unemployed and can’t find jobs. Their car broke down too, and they don’t have the money to get it fixed. My husband and I help with the bills as much as we can be we are currently recovering from his long stint of unemployment. The $200.00/month they get in foodstamps doesn’t go far these days. Thank goodness I learned to coupon from iheartpublix! What a great giveaway!! The first family that came to my mind is a couple who has 2 children and is due with her 3rd in early December. The wife is a very frugal Publix shopper and would definitely put this gift card to good use.
I would give the 2nd giftcard to a lady at my son’s preschool. I know they are struggling as she has been suffering from medical problems and is a single mom. I don’t know her well, but I think sometimes that’s the most impactful gift.
I would give the second card to my neighbors, they have 3 kids and he just lost his job.
I will give the cards to my parents who have so little but give so much in everything they do for their family, church and friends. They have the least of everyone, but their home is where everyone flocks to for Thanksgiving Dinner, Christmas and every other holiday get-together because, while their pockets are empty, their hearts are so full of love! A little extra money would definitely help them at this time of year.

i would really give this to my landlord and her husband because in spite of them working with me as being a single mom and recently losing my job they have been so understanding and caring helping me and my kids even though i have been struggling to pay my bills, so i would give them the 2nd card as they are very giving in spite of they havent been getting every dime i owe them <3

Thanks for a great opportunity here! A great and dear friend of ours is in the midst of an awful divorce, which gets uglier by the day. I would give the second gift card to my daughter’s Kindergarten teacher. Her teacher works two jobs and is a great teacher. She has worked really hard to make sure my daughter got into the speech program at school as quickly as possible so she doesn’t have any delay in learning due to her speech issues.

The family I would share the card with would be one of my daughter’s softball coach. They have 3 children (one of which is in college.) Coach Roberto’s wife has just be diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer. She is unable to work right now, and there are ton of expenses involved with treatment. I think this card will help for Thanksgiving as you can order a complete meal right now for under $50. The nice dinner would be a nice treat as Roberto has become both Mom and Dad for their family.

My husband has been out of work for almost 2 years now, so a Publix gift card would help us tremendously to put some goodies on the table for our family of 4. I would give the extra one to the homeless shelter that I donate a lot of my coupon finds to.
Great idea! I admit we have been a little preoccupied this season and this is the perfect reminder for me! I have a neighbor who has been out of work for a while, she is really trying and every time she gets a break, something else happens! Through it all, she has kept a smile and a positive attitude and this would really touch her and maybe give her a little boost of faith!
I would give the card to a wonderful lady in my church. She has no children of her own, but considers many of us consider her our “spiritual momma”. She is unable to work due to health problems, and could definitely use the card. She’s always positive and trusts God to provide.
If I won this giveaway, I would give the 2nd gift card to a family that my daughter goes to school with the little girl and I went to school with the father. I’ve recently read posts on Facebook from this father about struggles that they have had and them having to sell some of their possessions just to pay their rent and scrounge up a little more money just hoping to get groceries to last them until pay day(which sounded like over a week with only $27 for food for a family of four). The posts are very encouraging, however, stating that he knows that God will provide a way and help them make it through this difficult time. It breaks my heart that they are struggling so and I’ve wanted to try to find some way to provide for this family.
Wow I could go to Publix and buy a bunch of turkeys at .59 cents a pound. Then donate them to the food bank that is planning a dinner for the needy families in the community.
I will give it to a family on a child that is on my son’s wresting team that works really hard but are barely getting by! They really deserve it because they work as hard as they can and seem to have it really hard at the holidays!
I have to admit, a $50 giftcard would come in handy right now. Our budget is tight and the mortgage is behind. I think I’d give the other to a lady I know from church. Her husband was let go from his second job and she was just diagnosed with MS. I think a giftcard would brighten her day.
I would give it to my Godmother. She just lost her husband of 52 years over labor day week. She has only 1 child and she is a doctor that lives about 9 states away. My brother and i have been checking on her and my parents have helped make her dinners and things. She really wants to do a Thanksgiving and be thankful for all of us that have helped her in this time, but I konw her money is tight. I promised her we would all bring a side dish, but i’m sure just the turkey alone will be hard for her to pay for.

I have been out of work for 2 years and 5 months. I have been living with my 80 year old mother who is on a fixed income. It would help with the cost of our Thanksgiving dinner. I would give the other 50 dollar gift card to the local Food Bank (Citrus United Basket) to provide for more than just one family. It would fulfill the meaning of “Thanksgiving” and pay forward. It would make my heart feel good even though I am without to give to others.

Your kiddos caring enough to think about others in need is very heart warming <3 Als a great reminder of what is really important during the holidays. I have a favorite charity nearby that helps the homeless and families in need. This year they are in desperate need of TURKEYS! Since I have access to a great coupon for $10 off Turkey WYB 10 participating Kraft/Nabisco products, I have been able to gather a few birds on my own. With extra Publix g/c's, I could def stretch that out and donate more Turkeys and help feed alot more families. *gobble gobble*

I would give my gift card to my best friends son who is in college. She is recently divorced and gets minimal help from her ex. Her son is so good to his Mom and her newly found financial situation. He doesn’t want to burden her financially. So he doesn’t ask for needed food money. She told me she would go hungry before he let him. Both of them think so much of each other that they are willing to sacrifice for each other. I think this is true charity and the gift would help both of them.

I’m having the family Thanksgiving feast at our house this year. We’re going to provide 2 turkeys, a ham and some yummy fixin’s so a $50 gift card would be a tremendous blessing. I’m bless to have my parents visiting from Indiana just in time for Thanksgiving. They have given back to their community, their church family, my brother & I and our families…even giving to our in-law families. We’re unable to afford a trip to Indiana, so they’re visiting us. My daughter was in a serious accident 6 weeks ago, she Was T boned and her pelvic was severed in four places she was transported to a trama hospital where they placed two ,two ” screws in her back and two pubic bone were severed which have to heal slowly on their own. So she is in a wheel chair/ bed till after the new year, she also has to have shots every day which are very costly. She is a straight A student and dual enrolled and her teachers/counselors call her a unique student. We have been under a lot of stress but we are very lucky that she is alive her car seat was collapsed to 12″ wide. So we know how lucky we are and we have had great friends to help us as needed which is very hard for us , because we are the ones who normally help others. I f we were picked , I would donate the gift card to a friend who is a single mom who has lost two husbands and a son to cancer and is still raising two kids . She made my daughter homemade sauce every week because that’s all we could get her to eat and she helped me when needed with our family. That’s what friends are for…helping each other .

Although I am struggling myself, I still like to give some of the deals away especially when I get them free. I truly believe that through giving we get blessed ourselves. The second gift card would go to a struggling couple who I showed how to coupon and they thank me every week because they stretch their monthly budget. They have taken in 4 children & get no assistance from the parents. They are not really able to stockpile like they should because they don’t have the extra money to do so. I would give the other gift card to my grandmother because I cannot go home for our traditional family Thanksgiving. We are having a small one here and it would be nice to help her with some of the costs, since she is retired.
Until I read most of these comments I thought I really could use this. Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful and THANKFUL I am. I have 4 children so of course it would help. But I have decided I would donate both. One to the local crossing guard who I see daily that helps so many children and takes alot from some of the older ones. Today I actually saw her being cursed out by a middle school aged child who was crossing in between traffic of a green light. Daily I see her putting up with a lot of disrespect and the other would be for a mom I see walking her 3 daughters to school every day. Rain or shine! It’s times like these that I can truly understand what it means to me thankful and be appreciative of everything I have and not dwell on what I don’t have!

WOW…love this one! There is a lady who works at my youngest son’s preschool who is ALWAYS smiling. I don’t know how to explain how powerful seeing her smile each time we walk in the door is. I know she has 2 young children of her own and like each of us deals with daily ups and downs, but she NEVER lets that effect THAT SMILE. We started talking about couponing and I was sharing how much money I was saving (she had a copy of the Sunday paper). She was very interested, started taking notes and wrote down some of my favorite websites. She said she’s going to start right away because she is recently divorced, her husband is an addict and still actively using, she doesn’t get any child support right now and is really struggling to hold things together. She said “Maybe if I get the hang of this I can afford Thanksgiving dinner”. I’ve invited her and her kids to my house for Thanksgiving but would give her the card to use later with her new found couponing skills.
Actually if I were to win I would give them both to people. I have a older couple at church that need help they are helping to raise their grandchildren. I would give the other gift card to my next door neighbors who are struggling financially. They have four children, and no car, and constantly have had their power, or water turned off. I would love to win the $50 gift card for my niece, Tammy Norris, who is currently a struggling student. After losing her job when the mill closed, she decided to return to school at age 45. She is making good grades but it is hard to maintain a home and family while going to school. I would give her BOTH gift cards. I would give the cards to my best friend. My mother in law recently passed away very unexpectedly and my husband and I could not afford to live in the house we all lived in together since we would no longer have her to help pay the other half of the bills. We were not sure what to do and really thought we would become homeless. My best friend stepped up and helped us try to find a place and we found one we really loved but the down payment was $5000. Due to all the funeral costs we didnt have anywhere close to that amount. She stepped up and gave us the $5000 with out a second thought. She is now struggling a bit since her job is seasonal and the gift cards would be able to lift the burden of needing money for groceries.

What a great idea! I work with a ministry that has a food pantry and for the past five years we have given food baskets with all the trimmings plus turkeys for Thanksgiving. Each year the number of needs continue to grow and with the cost of food going up it has been harder to pay for it all based on the donations we run on. This will be the first year that we have a Publix nearby that is helping us provide 200 families with turkeys at the great sales price that is being offered this week. If I were to win these gift cards I would give them to our ministry to help provide for these families. (I really like the idea of paying for someone’s groceries at the store too.)
I would love to give the $50 card to my neighbors 2 houses down. They have 5 children, including a newborn. There were some serious complications after the birth of the last child and the mother almost died (as did the baby). I know they are struggling because of the cost of the NICU for the baby and the ICU for the mom. I would really love to see them have a wonderful holiday season this year. Their struggles have made me more appreciative of what I have.

I would give the gift card to my Grandmother. My grandfather passed away several years ago, leaving my grandmother on one income. Then her son, my uncle, was in a major motorcycle wreck and was left unable to walk. My grandmother lost her job while he was in the hospital because she had to take too much time off to take care of him. She was not ready to retire, so therefor her funds are extremely low. She still cooks Thanksgiving for everyone in the family, but doesn’t like to take money donations for the food she buys. She also does not want us to bring a dish to help out. I know the gift card would be such a big help to her. Not only for Thanksgiving because I would give her both, since she does the same thing at Christmas too. Love her!!

I would give the second gift card to my best friend. Her family has had a difficult time this year. Her husband lost his job due to cutbacks at work and was out of work for just over a year. He just recently started a new career as a deputy and was only at the new job for about a month when he was in a bad accident while taking his son to school. Both were pulled from their burning vehicle and suffered some injuries but were very lucky the outcome wasn’t worse. There were lucky enough to have good people nearby to come to their rescue and save everyone involved. They are very blessed to be able to spend this holiday together but I know their finances are tight due to him losing several weeks of work due to his injuries. I would love to be able to help them this year but our money is tight too like so many other families. Thank you for this opportunity.
I have a coworker at the school I teach at that has had a devestating summer/fall. Her only child, a two year old little boy, was diagnosed with a very rare form of cancer near the beginning of the summer. It has been devastating for her little family. The knew for a few months that he had a tumor on his spine and after the initial surgery to remove the tumor they were told it looked to be a benign tumore and that he should be back to normal right away. Sadly, they were called called back just a few weeks later and told by his doctors that it was cancer and a very aggressive form only found in the spine and brain.
They prepared to go to Florida for 6 weeks of a specific form of radiation called proton theraphy. Both my coworker and her husband had to take unpaid leaves from their jobs to be with their little boy while he went through the 6 straight weeks (every single day) of radiation. He also had to suffer through chemo treatments every other week.
They are back in South Carolina now, working through more treatments for the next year. He’ll undergo chemo from now until next fall.
Needless-to-say, this family has gone through a lot in a very short time and although they are thankful that their little one is coping as well as can be expected during this ordeal, they have a lot of emotional and financial stress.
I would LOVE to be able to help them out this Thanksgiving by giving them the $50 gift card. I am sure it would relieve a small bit of that financial stress.

This is an awesome idea!! I would give my gift card to my sister who has been a single mother for mist of her son’s life. Things haven’t been easy but she’s done a great job. She is always willing to do what she can to help others. The second gift card I would give to my brother in law. He is a single dad 3 kids live with him full time and 2 kids he has every other weekend. Ages are 4-14. The gift card would be helpful to bother families!!! My husband and I direct a non-profit in inner city Miami and we help folks every day, but the person that I would gladly give the extra gift card and my own is a mom whose children are in our programs and who is also a friend. The power in her building went out last week and she lost all her groceries she bought the day before. They aren’t reimbursing her for the lost groceries and things are tough. We’ve had them over for dinner and for her girls to play since it gets dark so early things are quite boring. It’s been in the news and they are going on 1 1/2 weeks without power. This gal works hard, loves her kids, and just needs a blessing. It would be an honor to pass a blessing on to her.

I work in a nursing home and every year my residents do a bake sale to donate money to a local group (high= school, charity, association, etc). i would donate the extra gift card to them so they could buy more items to sell and give back even more to a community that is always giving back to them.

I have a wonderful co-worker who was recently diagnosed with a serious illness. She was out several weeks and did not have enough sick time to cover so she went without pay. She has managed to keep her housing although she has been close to eviction several time. I would be so very thankful to be able to help this wonderful woman, mom and grandmother.

What a wonderful giveaway! I would donate the extra gift card to our local Church Service Center. I found out this week that they’ve had 3 x’s the normal number of applications for food help for Thanksgiving and Christmas. They finally had to stop accept applications because they can’t handle any more. There are so many out there in need… Thank you so much for doing this!

That would be awesome to get the card, I just started to use coupons because my hubby lost his job lucking he was able to find another job. But we are still planning catch up. I have been try to use coupons for the both of us, because she only get one check and that covers her rents and lights. This is perfect I was just talking to some friends about donating to a family in need. My daughter’s pediatrician called me this morning about a patient in need. I have been donating formula, baby food , and whatever extra things I can get with coupons to them. The husband was wounded in Iraq and Now is out of work. It’s sad that our military is treated this way. My sister gave them some baby clothes and a stroller. But they are in desperate need of food. I would take the gift cards and try to do as much extreme couponing as possible to stock their pantry. I can make $100 go very far. Especially with these holiday deals right now. I already promised to teach them how to coupon. Like they say “go couponing for someone and they’ll eat for a month, but teach them how to coupon and they’ll be able to feed their family and help another for a lifetime!”. It’s great that your son thought to be generous. My 5 year old is donating her old toys to those less fortunate. It’s nice to know that not all is lost on our next generation.. While I would love the first $50 giftcard, there is ALWAYS someone less fortunate than me. BOTH gift cards would go to the mother of the little girl I watch. She gave birth 3 days ago to a beautiful baby boy that I will be watching soon… The heartwrenching part is that as the father was on the way to the hospital he was in a horrific car accident and died on the scene… She has no immediate family. I do not have the financial capability to help her and this win would be AMAZING for her!!! Bless you all!!

I would give the card to a coworker whose house was destroyed in the April tornado’s that hit Alabama. They are staying in a rental till there house is rebuilt. Its been a tough year for them and not having your own home for the holidays would be rough. They still have most of their belongings that survived in storage. They have 2 small children and 2 dogs. One of my coworkers goes to church with a single mother of 3 small children: 3-year old twin girls and another 2 year old baby girl. My coworker said the family had not been showing up to church for about 2 weeks and she recently found out that the family’s house burned down about a week ago. We’re trying to find donations for young girl’s clothes and furniture and household stuff to help them start again. I would give both gift cards to my brother. He is going through a bad divorce after finding out his wife was having an affair. They have an 18 month old daughter that will spend Thanksgiving day with her mom and Friday and the weekend with him. This will be the first of many holidays without his daughter. He has just started working with my husband since he couldn’t find another job and has just this week been able to afford to pay for the lawyer so he is broke. Wow, so many in need. I would give the other gift card to a precious woman in our church who used to be homeless, was radically changed by the love of God, and now serves the homeless in our town by feeding them every Weds. evening and Saturday morning, rain or shine, heat or cold! She gets much help serving, but all the food (sometimes there are over 100 homeless that eat!) she needs to provide. I know she would be so blessed to add this to her Wednesday night plans for the people she loves!
I would buy things for the 3-6 families we adopt every year for christmas with the 1st one, then the second one I would give to my best friend who’s husband has to go through 12 surgeries for his legs and she will have major surgery right before christmas. He is the only one with and income because she has been very sick for the past year (severe female problems) she has been bed ridden for about 1 year now. They also have a 6 year old son, and her mom lives with them but is on SS. I also coupon so I have already filled the basket full of health and beauty items for 3 of the families we adopt, and the 1st gift card would give me enough to provide them each with a feast. the 2nd gift card would give my best friend and her husband a wonderful Christmas since they will not be able to due to the surgeries.
Its so nice that you are doing this for someone in need. I would normally say I would donate it to my church and let them decide who to give it to, but this time I would give it to my mother who is having a pretty touch time financially and is still insisting on making Thanksgiving dinner and won’t let me bring anything more than the greenbeans and some chips and dip. I feel bad she is spending money she doesn’t have on having on her family but she would be devastated if she couldn’t do it for us.

I would give both gift cards to my parents. My dad had back surgery earlier this year and he was forced to quit his job so he could recover. He is still having some difficulty walking so it looks like permanent retirement for him. My mom has been in poor health for the last few years due to a heart condition. They are living off of social security and it has been very difficult for them to make ends meet. They have given me so much and I wish I was able to help them out more.
I came home just yesterday and my 16 year old son came to me and said “Mom, there is something I want to do”….we started talking and he started explaining to me that he was worried about a friend at school and their family. This family of five is living basically in a shack, o two room home and the 3 children share a bedroom. He said “Mom I know we cant do much but maybe we can make sure they at least have food and maybe if it’s ok at Christmas we can get them a few little things.” His dad and I told him of course we could. I was so proud of coming to us with this, most kids his age wouldn’t care. I would give the $50 gift card to my husband’s dad and grandmother. His dad is on disability and his grandmother is on SSI and with there two checks they can hardly pay their bills every month and when my husband’s dad got his disability after 2 years of waiting, they cut out his food stamps when he got his first check. (even though his monthly checks are not enough to cover what they need. The back-check that paid all the debt they mounded up while we has unable to work took away all of it for awhile.) I’ve been trying to get them into couponing to be able to afford their food, but haven’t been sucessful yet. Maybe I would be if I showed them how far they could make the $50 go.

I would love to win the gift card, but honestly since I have been couponing my goal has to donate a ton of my goodies to those in need in my area. This year one of the best shelters in my area St. Matthews House in Naples is short 1,000 turkeys to those in need plus other supplies. I would use both my own gift card to buy turkeys and also give the gift card to the St. Matthews House for them to buy more turkeys and other supplies for Thanksgiving. This post really struck a cord with me because while I could use the $50 gift card for myself because I am a full time college student with a limited budget, my Thanksgiving has already been paid for with many thanks to IheartPublix matching deals and coupons. Their two-year-old daughter was born with a heart defect and only one working lung, and she has had several surgeries with a major heart surgery coming up in a few weeks (right before Christmas). I would give the other card to a friend of mine who is in the process of losing her home. Her two year old son has medical issues and his medical bills have caught up to them. The giftcard wouldn’t get them back their home, but it might make her Thanksgiving a little better.
I would love to be able to give the gift card to my wonderful aunt. She will be widowed for 2 years this January and although money for her is more than tight, she still helps her 2 sons (one of whom was laid off from his job), daughter in law and 2 grandbabies and insist on duing Thanksgiving for the entire family and friends as her and my uncle always did. This will mean feeding at least 30 people. I will gladly not only give her the first one, but will also stretch the second one along with coupons to help her and my elderly parents who are on a fixed income and due Christmas dinner for the same group of friends and family. I think I would give it to a homeless shelter or the Salvation Army — some organization that serves homeless, and others in need, a hot meal on Thanksgiving. I would love to help feed as many people as possible… wish I could do it all myself.

The only thing is her husband hasn’t been able to find work in florida for 4 yrs. So every spring-fall he has to go up north to work until work goes slow there. Unforntanally this year he can’t even come home

I am a teacher and this year I have the pleasure of teaching a wonderful little girl in my third grade class. I have known her family since her brother was in my class five years ago. This family is by far one of the best and most caring families I have ever met. My husband has also coached their son in baseball, so we see them around town often, and they are always doing things for their kids. Well, a couple years ago the dad lost his job and delivers pizzas now to make ends meet. Then, the mom also lost her job along with the medical insurance that it provided for their family. And now just when things couldn’t get any worse (or so they thought), the mom was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. She is undergoing treatments without insurance, and yet continues to have a smile on her face and supports her kids every step of the way. I have already donated Publix cards and gas cards that I have recieved through rebates or by using coupons. I would love to help this family to have a wonderful Holiday with your gift cards. Just the other day when our cafeteria had our annual Thanksgiving lunch for the students, it was really disheartening to overhear some of the students say that meal will be their only Thanksgiving meal because they cant afford it. We recently experienced an apartment fire that was set by an arsonist and had to move into a hotel, then a temporary apartment, and then back to our regular apartment again. We have gotten to know our neighbors very well during this rough time. Just found out recently that they are struggling to pay their bills and buy groceries just like we are because of the after effects from the fire. Even though we don’t have much and can’t afford to get more food right now, we gave them some items so they would have a few meals. The husband does handyman jobs when he has money for gas…He was st my house(26 year old husband) and he got a text that they were being evicted. He is a hard worker and can build a house from the ground up..if he can just find a job in this faltering construction industry. He does not drink or do drugs, and just needs a boost up. The person I would help with the extra gift card would be my in-laws. They are hurting financially because my 73 year old father in laws hours have been cut at work severely (he gets like 4 hours a week) and my mother-in-law is disabled, but they still run across town to pick up my kids every day after school because my son has some impluse issues that keeps him from being in afterschool care. So they are spending extra money on gas and feeding my kids in the afternoon when they really don’t have the money so my husband and I don’t have to cut our work hours to care for them after school. They help us alot, but with medical bills I have… we can’t help them. The extra $50 would really help them out.
I would give the second one to my daughter’s kindergarten teacher. As a high school teacher I know how tight a teacher’s salary can make a budget. At our parent teacher night she told us when we were talking about all the donations I made at the start of school (because of sites like yours) and how she as a single mother was always eating the leftovers after her son ate. I have a friend named Skip who has a Christian ministry called Word on the Street Homeless Ministries, and they are feeding the homeless in the East Orlando area a Thanksgiving dinner. I would give the gift card to them. The food money would go a long way to feed families in the area who cannot afford to provide for themselves.

After 4 surgeries, I am just now starting to be able to walk again. My parents are nearly bankrupt after working hard to support us while both live off social security. I would give the other card to another single mom from my church who has been very ill for the last couple months and also has 3 children and has been in and out of the hospital and has had no income.
I would give the 2nd one to my friend “M”, she has been going through hard times for a while.
I would give the giftcard to my neighbors they are a young family who work hard and just can’t seem to get a break in life every time life seems to get better another road block for them the mom is sick and needs lots of medical attention and in one week their stove and microwave both quit but mom finds ways to cook with crockpot and hotplate to feed the kids good hot meals they are such a wonderful family I would love to surprise her with a trip to Publix
I would send the giftcard to my grandmother in law. She is the absolute sweetest person in the world! She would give you the shirt off of her back. She has gone without to help our struggling family, even though it was against our wishes. This would really help her out & would just make her day.
You should take the gift cards and donate them to a charity of your choice in the name of all your IHeartPublix fans. Given the overwhelming response of folks here on the site, that would be the best way to GIVE BACK.
I’d give the gift card to my Mom since she was just laid off this month from her job. I’ve realized how much more careful I really need to be with money now that someone so close to me is without a job. Thank goodness for sites like iheartpublix and my mom who was the one to first show me how to coupon! She’s so loyal to “her” Publix too, she refuses to drive an extra block to the brand new Publix because she says it’s just not the same.
I have a friend who has been out of work for some time and I would give them the other gift. The have no income at this time.
What reat timing. I had already been trying to figure out how I could help my friend who has two sons and a mom with Alzheimers. She’s been out of work for over 2 years and I know that money is extremely tight. I’ve told her about how couponing can really stretch your money but I don’t think she has a printer (or the money to buy ink) or the money to buy newspapers. The good thing is Publix is in walking distance so she and her boys could walk there and back. What I love about her is that she is always encouraging others and I know for a fact that she gives whatever she can even though her resources are so limited. Giving her a gift card to help make her Thanksgiving cheery would be an awesome opportunity to bless someone who uses what little she has to help others.
I would definitely give it to my daughter. She has been a great daughter always helping us out when we were in need and still at times are but she is on her own now struggling and I would like to pay it forward. This would mean so much! Thank you and thank your boys too
I would give both cards to my mom. We recently lost my dad and she has been sfruggling to makie ends meet since. I know she goes without eating sometimes just to make sure the bills are paid. It would mean a lot to me to know she wont have to make that choice, at least for awhile, with the gift cards.
I would give it to one of my customers at my storage facility. He is a 93 year old man with no family. He works hard all day everyday trying to clean metal that people have given him to take to the scrap yard to make money. At that age he should not have to still work to pay for groceries and other necessities. I try to help him when I can. I had to give him $20 to buy depends today because he couldn’t afford to buy them. It makes me feel disappointed in this country to have someone that has worked all of his life and paid into social security and only receive a few hundred dollars per month and expect him to pay for a place to live, medication copays, food, gas, etc… My future worries me.
I will donate the second gift card to my friend, Joy. Every year in the beginning of December she goes downtown and cooks for about 100 homeless families. She buys everything herself. I would like to be able to give her the gift card this year to help with the costs.
I would give it to my church to help stock up their food pantry for the holiday season.

The second gift card would be given to my pastor’s family. They have 3 small children and are always struggling. Medical bills keep appearing on a regular basis for them. That makes it harder for them to stay ahead.

I would give one card to a friend. Her husband just got shot and is in the hospital. They have 3 small children and she is the sole provider for the family. The other one I would use to purchase turkeys and fixings to prepare for my sister in-law, her husband, and the others from his military unit. They are newly in the military and cannot go far from base. I would like to take Thanksgiving to them, since they can not make it home to their families.
I will probably give the cards to two families – both of the families are really struggling financially. The Dads have not have much success in getting jobs. I’ve been helping them out with my stockpile stuff, but I know its no fun having to look into another’s eyes for food. I will subsidize them with some groceries and invite them all for Thanksgiving to our house. That way the GC may pay for Christmas as well.

My 2nd would go to Helping Hands, the emergency food pantry in my town. I routinely bring to them that which I get for free or money-makers. Though I’d once looked into using their services, myself, it feels so good to bring to them, instead. They’re super appreciative since all of their donations are from organizations or stores and they’re always so surprised to see me pull up in my station wagon. If I walked in with this 2nd gift card, I know they’d turn right around to the Publix just behind their establishment and put it to super good use!

My husband just started working, and we could really use the gift card. I would give the second card to my mother-in-law, who is a breast cancer survior. She has been a second mom to me after I lost my mother. She is on disability, but she tries her best every year to make dinner for everyone. As I was thinking about who I would give the second gift card to I remembered that I know a couple of people who have families that will be going without this Thanksgiving. So, I would give both cards away to two families from my church. Whenever we can, we try and fill bags up with food from our pantry to help them out and this would be so wonderful to be able to give to them. One family is just starting out with 2 kids, 3 year old girl and a newborn. The second family is an older women who lost her job and her son lost his as well and has moved back in with her. I would give the BOTH gift card to the new girl who works for my company. She is a great self starting worker, and always finds work to do, even when we are slow. She is a single mom of one beautiful little girl, and she is so trapped with money. She had been without utilities for 3 days, waiting on her next paycheck. She is able to give her daughter the bare essentials, which is food. She does not have any family nearby who can help her. Her daughter is in church day care, while she works. She is truly doing the best she can, and I believe she would be so blessed with $100 gift certificate towards groceries. I would give the second one away to one of my really good friends. Like so many others in the lower middle income level her family makes to much to get any assistance but not enough to make ends meet. To a couponer $50 is like being handed $200. It would make her (and my) Thanksgiving so wonderful.
I would give the card to my dear sister. Her and her family have struggled for a long time and i know how much it would mean to her. Also because they decided to buy their dinner from Publix, The $39.99 meal would feed their family perfectly and allow for leftovers. She spent a long time doing the math and decided it was cheaper than buying and cooking it all individually and it was guaranteed to be good. Having never cooked a Turkey before this was her best bet!
You are too sweet! I would give the second on to my step brother in-law. He decided to to get into house flipping RIGHT when the housing market crashed. So, all of a sudden they were stuck with their own home and two additional houses with underwater mortgages. His wife owned a cutesy boutique for upscale kitchen stuff. In this economy, she was forced to close her shop. Shortly after, he was diagnosed with Parkasins(spelling?). So, they had no other choice but, to foreclose on all of their houses, including the one that they lived in. He found a better paying job out of state so they had to move into a small apartment away from all of their family. Like that isn’t bad enough, his wife was recently diagnosed with…you know what, I don’t even remember but, she had to have back surgery and still is not able to walk correctly. Anyway, they are GREAT people that are going through a REALLY tough time. i just feel bad that she is stuck at home, unable to fully play with her full of life four year old and unable to pick up her one year old. So, I would give it to them, it is much deserved.
I would probably also give away “my” GC to my in-laws. Also, extremely lovely people who due to being in the construction field have been forced to drop to PT work and therefore income.

I recently volunteered at a food pantry who also has to purchase some of their own food for giving. They shop Publix often, and receive a lot of donations from them too. I would give them the card to help their families.
Both cards would go to valley rescue mission. They feed the homeless. Not only do I have a roof over my head and food to feed my family but I have an opportunity to help others.
We could sure use a $50 gift card as I am trying to figure out how our family can afford a “real” T-giving meal! And I’d give the other card to Tricounty Family Ministries, a nonprofit located in the heart of impoverished North Charleston, SC, where many folks don’t have access to even a grocery store. They offer free lunch 3x a week along with other food and clothing items.
Sadly, there are numerous people I would like to give the gift card to. Since I must choose one recipient, I would give the second gift card to a man who recently took in his grandchildren after they were removed from their mother’s care. He is almost 80 years old and he now has custody of a nine year old and an 11 year old.
Times are tough for SO many – I know we have weeks & months we struggle. Owning our own company our financial situation is 100% dependent on our customers paying on time – so we know struggle. A gift card would be such a blessing; but in all honesty I know there are people that need it more than we do.

After a very rough few years including caring for her mother for 3 years which caused her to lose her house & then renting a home that was in foreclosure – & having to leave there too. She cares for her son that has medical issues. She is on disability but is an amazing seamstress. She has recently done me a great favor by designing & creating sone gorgeous costumes for my kids & outfits for me (for the upcoming Gasparilla celebration – I am the reigning Mrs Gasparilla). She barely charged me anything. She is so kind & generous & with only one vehicle – when her son is at work she gets very lonely. These are two women that are very deserving – I’m sure all the nominies are just as deserving ; however, these women are who would receive the gift cards if I am chosen. Thank you

I know the perfect family that would be so very grateful to get any help. They struggle with 3 kids under the age of 10. When she told me that her and her husband did not eat for a day or more to make sure the kids had food, I told her to never do that again! I may not have money to offer but I dont want her or her husband to go hungry! I told her that I would always help her an there is always room at the table! With the many good deals that I get from publix I will from time to time go thru my cabinets to make sure that I share. I will buy things that are such great deals that Im not sure if I would use and give them to my friends.

I have a friend who is a single mother of 3. She’s having it hard right now because she just now landed a job only part time at a daycare, she rides her little girls bike to work 6miles and right now, (its illegal i know) she’s found a way to fix her water meter so it will run even though they think they’ve cut it off. Her last child support check was back in June for $47. I cant help her because I have 4 kids and we just had to go to a local church to get help to finish paying our rent. We were on the verge of eviction because we were having to come up with october and november’s rent, that was 2040 that had to be paid by today and boy was i stressing. I wasnt being true to my faith in God that he would supply and was freakin out to be honest! We made it with help from the church and my mom who is on social security. We have $27 left. We cant get food stamps because on my husband check he gross’s $22 over the limit for our household even though he doesnt bring nearly that much home. So to wrap things up and stop telling my sad story, cuz i know everyone has one, i would share with her and it would make me feel like i did something for her even though we live too far away from each other now to visit as much as we’d like.

What a generous thing to do Michelle. I would give the 2nd Publix gift card to a family who lives in my neighborhood. The father is disabled and in a wheelchair and goes to physical therapy several times a week. The Mother works part time as a cab driver. She recently had cellulitis for the 2nd time in one of her legs and could not work. Their 30 year old son (who has schizophrenaia) lives with them and is the caretaker for his Dad as well as taking care of the house, making sure that the laundry gets done and meals are cooked. Eric, (the son) is always looking for work that he can do in the neighborhood to make a few dollars to help pay bills. He recently came to me and asked if I had any metal that he could take to be salvaged. We cleaned out my old shed and he was able to get enough money to pay their electric bill. And as we were talking he told me that they didn’t have much food left and that his Dad’s food stamps wouldn’t be in for another 10 days. They had been eating veggies and rice because they didn’t have any meat. Because I had been doing so well with my couponing, I was able to give him several different varieties of meats from my freezer. His mom has applied for disability, but continues to work part time for the cab company. It would be a big help to them to have the gift certificate to provide a Thanksgiving meal. Something I know that they would truly appreciate.

If we won, we would give the 2nd card to our neighbor who lost both of her parents in the past few years. Her son is serving our country. Her eldest daughter is being relocated to an island I can’t even pronounce.

I would give one to my sister. She is married (for ten years now) and she and her husband have 4 kids. They have three of their own and they’ve got full legal custody of her husband’s nephew. They both work full time and my sister is also in school full time. She is the best mother in the world. Even though she is my baby sister, I look up to and admire her. After all the hours she works and goes to school she still finds time to be a good mother to her kids. They struggle from week to week to pay their bills yet they still get them paid. I honestly don’t know how they do it. I know a $50 gift card for groceries would help her out a whole lot. I would give the other one to my other sister. She recently remarried and is now expecting her second child. But, for the last ten years she has been a single mother because her husband passed away from cancer when she was 8 months pregnant. I’m so happy for her now that she has found happiness again after so long. I’m sure that gift card would come in really handy to help her with some diapers and such. (she’s an avid couponer too!)
I would definatly give the 2nd gift card to a patient of my mom. Her patient is mother with 6 children and is currently battling cancer. We currently send her clothes, canned goods, and other items to help her out. I do believe that she would benefit from this gift card in a great way. Her kids as well as herself will have an oppurtunity to have a wonderful thanksgiving to remember.

If I won the gift cards, one would go to the family of one of my students whose home was burned to the ground two weeks ago. There are four children, no insurance (the house was an inheritance), and even their car was burned in the fire. The other card would go to the mom of another student of mine. I would give both of them to my parents its been areally hard year for them my father was laid off right before christmas last year and has still not found a job. They both have lost their fathers this year and my mother was heartbroken when she told my brother and I they couldnt afford to host dinner this year so since I started this couponing thing a few months ago I told her I would host dinner and use my couponing skills to make it the best ever…..but i know shes dying inside and fearing what christmas might be like …..this would help her have a little piece of mind
I would give them both away …my sister lost her home in SC and moved back to florida and cant find work here so her family is struggling big time…..and my brother lost his home here as well when construction became nonexistant he could no longer keep up with the payments….while i do what i can for all the nieces and nephews it is hard on me..We are lucky to have been fortunate to pay off our home before everything hit the fan or we might be in the same boat as them..I am thankful that every one is healthy, just wish all were happy.
My son-in-law lost his job last Christmas. Since then, he has picked up a part-time job and has done lots of volunteer work for his church and for the fire department, but money is tight. I would give the other card to them.

The husband has been out of work for some time, and they have fallen on other personal hard times; through it all, though, they have remained faithful. They are strong Christians and very humble, gracious people. The second gift card would go to Bethel Village, a sister charity of the Panama City Rescue Mission. This is a very generous giveaway. I would give the gift card to my parents. My mother has a disability so she doesn’t work, and my father works really hard in an outdoor job in Florida’s very hot climate. Given my father’s income I have no idea how they make it stretch to cover all of their bills, groceries and medications. In the past my husband and I always given them gifts and paid for certain expenses as thank you for being awesome parents but my husband recently lost his job and we won’t be able to do it this year for the holidays. Well, I just went grocery shopping yesterday at my local Publix. I had several of the 10 off of 50 Sweetbay coupons. I got some great deals and am really NOT in need of buying more food for Thanksgiving. So I would have to give both of the gift cards away! I know that there are people in my kids school that are receiving Thanksgiving meals as well as some in my church. So the cards would go to them. I would give the card to the neighborhood lady who goes around early each Friday morning collecting coupons from our recycle bins. I always make sure to bundle up my unused ones for her. Don’t know her situation, but she has three small kids and I am sure this would help her a lot.
I would give the 2nd card to my best friend in Iowa. She lives with her 85 year old mother and takes care of her. They live off one income and that is very hard to do when its one income of someone on Social Security who receives widows benefits. Less than $800 a month. Her niece that she raised also lives with them and the bookstore she is employed with is closing and they are not relocating the employees so that will make 3 people living off one income. Its so hard to find jobs in this economy. They do not get food stamps or any type of welfare. They live very simple and do not have any extras in life. I would like to give her the 2nd card so they could buy something extra that they would not normally buy or just have the money to buy their Thanksgiving meal. Our country definitely does not take care of its elderly or its unemployed. My friend does not work bc her mother has many health problems and cannot be left at home alone for long periods of time. Her mother falls and gets hurt and if someone were not there then she could lay there and suffer for a long time until someone came home or even not live til someone came home. She could put her mother in a nursing home but thats the easy way out. She takes care of her mother so her mother doesnt have to leave her own home. I truly look up to her for doing that. She gives her whole life to taking care of her mother. Our parents take care of us when we are growing up so its only right that we should take care of our parents when they are growing old even if we have to give up some of the nicer things in life and make some sacrifices to do so. There should be more people like my friend in this world.
The single mom of 4 down the street. 2 have celiac and one is intolerant to dairy. Recently she move (within the neighborhood, cheaper rent, bigger house) and many of the neighbors showed up w vans, work trucks, extra hands, to move her and the family. It was really quite a sight to see all the cars lined up and people working to help her in the transition. I’d give it to her. I really have no idea how she feeds those kids much less keeps her sanity!

What a very nice thing to do. Kids sure can touch our hearts and help us to help others. And that’s why I’d give the gift card to my dear friend Christy and her 3 kids. This has been a tough year for her with her latest stress/obstacle being having a lump found in her breast. While it was removed and thankfully not cancerous, this has caused her huge financial issues. I will help her regardless in every way I can, but this is who I believe would be deserving of the gift card:)
The second gift card would go to my mother. My father passed away October 5th so this Thanksgiving will be tough on all of us. And of course, money is tight for her, so anything will help.
My friend is going through a divorce. She and three kids have moved in with her retired parents because her husband is being very nasty and vindictive, cutting off support. He is out of work and they are going to lose the house probably. She needs a break, and this would be a way to help give her one.
Years ago, when I was in high school, I volunteered w/ a local organization that cares for abused and neglected children. I was touched by that experience and have always thought of them. I have a very special “coupon buddy” who was laid off from her job a couple of years ago and found out that she had breast cancer a short time later. She also has a very rare disease that may eventually leave her in a wheelchair. She overcame the breast cancer and has been able to get on assistance. Every month or two she has to apply for assitance with her power bill and if she doesn’t get it, she has to stay home and not grocery shop because she has to use her gas money for the power bill. She is a very proud woman and rarely complains about anything. This year her son has gone through a divorce and her daughter is struggling to find a job. They are both grown and on their own but she helps them any way she can. I would love for her to win the gift card and be able to have a TRUE Holiday Feast with her family.
I would give the second gift card to my parents. Over the years, especially recently, even when they do not have extra money to spend on themselves, they always make sure that my children are well-clothed, fed, and more importantly, loved. I would love to be able to re-pay even just a tiny bit of their gratitude.
I would love to give both of these cards away. I have two friends who are very much in need right now. One is a SAHM of two children who is currently having trouble paying her mortgage since her husband’s work in the construction business has slowed substantially with the housing market crash. The other friend suffers from rheumatoid arthritis and lupus, while also caring for her husband who is wheelchair bound and totally dependent on her for all his care. She also homeschools their 3 children.

I would actually give both away, seeing that to give one away, I’d have a hard choice. We have neighbors on our street that are from Haiti- placed here by FEMA and they lost alot of their family and they dont speak much English- they could really use a Publix gc. I’d also give the other to my mother in law who just informed my husband recently that she was splitting from her husband. I know that times are about to get tough for her, and she could use one as well.

She is a teacher, who just had a baby this year, her husband and her are doing their best at making ends meet and just let me know not too long ago, that thanks to couponing, they are getting better. I work at a public high school. We have so many kids in need. Each of their stories are different but they all have something in common; they suffer in silence with shame, embarrassment and a feeling of being a burden to their families. It is heartbreaking! I wish I could help them all and we (the staff) do what we can and they are so grateful when we are able to do so. I would give that $50 card, probably both, to a couple of those kids and their families. These days it truly takes a village…..

I would give my gift card to my Aunt Vaunie. She recently lost her husband and has very little money. I help her out with my stockpile, but it would be nice if she could go buy some things that are her favorites.

Two years ago he was diagnosed with cancer and has been unable to work. Mom wonders how long they’ll be able to keep the house. My family is so blessed, so I would give both of mine away. I would give one to a friend who has been unemployed and has recently had to visit the local Food Bank to support her family. How difficult it must have been for her to swallow her pride and collect the much needed food. I would give the other card to a dear friend that is going through a difficult time in her marriage. I think I will give the card to one of my students. I teach English as a second language and I have several students from Slovak who will be celebrating their first Thanksgiving ever. Their families have come here for many reasons….to escape war, hardships and torture.
For the beginning of the school year, I gave them each a back to school book bag filled with school supplies.

I would definitely give a gift card to a family that is in my son’s Cub Scouts den. Both parents have both become unemployed unexpectedly within the past year and are having a hard time make ends meet. They have three small children – all in elementary school. They are a very humble family – the parents are trying not to let their kids know what hardship they are in. They are very giving people and they try to give of their time by volunteering and helping in their community, in their church, and for Cub Scouts. I would love to be able to give them a Thanksgiving to remember – where their three children would be able to eat a hearty meal – where their little bellies would actually get full. I would love to be give them such a blessing especially at this time of year as they continnue to give of themselves even though times are financially tough for them right now. My church is helping families in need this year so I would give my 2nd card to an organization who brings in single mothers who are pregnant or have children and do not have a home to live in. Each year this organization has accepted gifts so that the mothers can give to their children but this year they are requesting gift cards fo grocery stores, pharmacies, department stores, etc. This will help the mothers to get on their feet once they leave the organization. So it would make me so happy to be able to give $50 for groceries to a single mom who is getting out on her own and has nothing and yet still has to care for a young child. Hope I win!
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays to cook for, along with Passover. I love dry brining my turkey; roasting it a la Alton Brown; and having “planned over” meat and the carcass for soup, stock, and various dishes built upon cooked poultry.
However, I was just diagnosed with thyroid cancer, and my surgeon had scheduled me to have my thyroid removed this coming Monday. So, not knowing what recovery and/or further treatment would involve, we scratched any plans for me to cook this year.
This is the first year my son is away at college, though. After discussing this with my doctor, she was persuaded to postpone my surgery until the Monday after Thanksgiving, on November 28th. This way my son can come home, spend his break with us, and I’ll be admitted the day after he returns so we can spend all of his break together.
My husband and I decided we will make reservations to go to the Best Western Gateway Grand here in Gator Town’s Thanksgiving buffet. Their menu looks awesome and the price is reasonable. I will miss having my planned overs and stock, but I have already purchased a small frozen turkey for me to prepare once I have recuperated. The $50 gift card will go a long way in seeing me through my recuperation and making a nice meal once I am up to cooking again.
So, I foresee me watching the Macy’s parade; going to the buffet midafternoon; hanging with the homies while looking through the sale flyers and planning my Black Friday strategy; and just overall taking it easy.
After all, most importantly, this holiday is about family and gratitude. With an upcoming battle for my health approaching, I will indulge in and be thankful for as much family togetherness as I can.
The second gift card I will donate to the Lubavitch-Chabad Jewish Student &
Community Center at the University of Florida. Each week they hold Shabbes services and feed a four course Friday night dinner for 300+ students and community members and a three course Saturday afternoon lunch for anywhere from 50 to 150 guests at no charge to those attending. Lubavitch focuses on Gator Town’s Jewish UF student population, but they do things such as summer camp for primary aged kids and have free classes throughout the year for anyone who wishes to learn. My son Beorn’s bar mitzvah was held there, and our out of town guests (many who are not Jewish) were made to feel just as welcome as long time attendees.
My own circumstances have prevented me from being a consistent donator to our Lubavitch; gifting them with this gift card will be a blessing to both them and me.

Maybe there are a lot more deserving people but a wonderful woman in our Autism Support Group is still out of work after losing her job. They are living with friends with her two kids. I know money has been tight and she has recently started couponing and doing a good job of it. But I know she was at the sharing center last week with us making up food bags, she has been trying to get our kids involved and writing cards for the troops etc. too. Even though she is having a rough time, she is still giving back to others! I really want to help them!
First let me say that after reading some of the post here. I do not know how you are going to pick a winner. There are certainly alot of excellent posts. You job will be very difficult. I have a special needs son that does make things tough and may husband has recently survived cancer. We are getting by. It is tough sometimes but I know there are alot of familys that have it worse, so I would give both cards away. One to my Uncle who is 89 and stuggling to get by on his SS. I would give the other card to a much neddy family that lives in my community.

This would be an answer to so many prayers. I have been struggling this season as I, myself have been experiencing health issues and have missed some work due to that fact. I have been living by the grace of coupons, thank God for coupons, and when I saw this I literally cried at what you and your family are doing.
For the last few years my husband and I will help a family out by buying their children gifts, giving a gift card or doing something just to make the holidays brighter. We try to do so without them knowing we did so as well. This year we will probably not be able to do so due to my issues at hand, but next year it is full steam ahead.
If I were to win, I would ever be so grateful. As for the 2nd gift card, I would give to my friend, Angelia, who has been fighting cancer for over a year now and her husband has congestive heart failure. This is the family we helped last year as well, they have little to nothing, but yet they are very proud people. She just finished school for Medical Assistant(which is where I met her, it might have taken her twice as long but she did it while doing chemo and radiation, and kept her GPA up as well. She has 3 children, one of which has Cerebal Palsey, and is confined to a wheel chair. She has struggled more in her life than anyone I know, but yet she is an inspiration to all around, she can turn the bad apples thrown her way into a delicious apple pie (so to speak).

We’ve been struggling trying to make it and keep food in the house. But I know my best friend can use it more. Our daughter’s are only one month apart exactly. We’ve known each other since middle school. I know there struggling to get food and I try to invite them over as much as I can (even for thanksgiving dinner) but I know they would be thrilled over a gift card just to pick up some much needed things.
I live in Tuscaloosa, back in April we had the tornadoes that destroyed our town. I have a friend who lost everything, he and his wife have 3 children. He is always the first to help anyone who needs it, I would love to help him with his Thanksgiving meal.

I would give the giftcard to my grandmother! My grandfather was diagnosed with lung cancer over the summer and had surgery to remove what they could…then found out it had spread. After SEVERAL rounds of chemo…he found out a week ago that he is CANCER free!! I would love to help them out with something like this since they have soo many doctor/hospital/medicine bills!!

I know everyone remembers the children (nothing at all wrong with that),but most forget the elderly. Even if I don’t get the card, please remember those that have no one at all. One of the clerical assistants where I work told me she only has $12 left after paying her bills to go grocery shopping for Thanksgiving. This doesn’t seem like it will buy her and her son much of a meal. I’d love to get the gift card and leave it on her desk as a surprise without letting her know who gave it to her. There is no such thing as too late when it comes to helping people in need. I would be so grateful to win this not only for myself (as I am struggling with finances right now) but to be able to give this to my daughter’s girl scout leader/personal friend. She has recently gone through a speration and has had her life completely turned upside down. She is still taking care of her 3 children and running a girl scout troop, as well as fostering animals and doing all of this while having the weight of the world on her shoulders. I would give this gift card to my dear friends Jessica and Bo Hargrove and their family. Their house burned down on Wednesday night. They have three kids and are taking donation for clothes and such right now. I know they could use any help they can get! Wow, this is such a generous giveaway. My family could certainly use a $50.00 Publix giftcard right now. I would give the other giftcard to my mother in law. Without getting too personal, I will just say that she is a mother of 10, yes, 10 children, almost all of them are grown now, and she is a widow. Ever since she became a single parent times have been hard for her financially. She always puts her family before others and has helped us with our children tremendously.
I would give it to my eldery friend who is home bound and living on an extremely limited income. I became friends with her 7 years ago when I received her name from our “helping hands” program for the holiday seaon and have maintained our friendship since.

I would love to give this to my granddaughter’s amazing teacher. She has 5 children and is married. She treats these kids in the class like they are all her own. She loves each one of them and it shows. She always has a smile on her face even though financially she is struggling. Her husband recently got a job after being let go 2 years ago. She is always upbeat and never would you know about her personal problems. I would be so thrilled if she would be the lucky one. She is truly one of a kind!

I am a former High School teacher who has stayed in contact with some of my students. I have a old student who is 21 years old and she has three kids. Yes, 3. They are in ages 2,5,6. (I taught at a Alternative High School Program for Pregnant teens). The boyfriend left her and she is struggling to get the child support. I have been collecting as much clothes and food for them as I can get. It is so sad, they are living in a old run down trailer and her parents will have nothing to do with her. I would also give my $50 to her too if I got it as her kids are starving and mine aren’t.

This is so generous! I’m a social worker for an early pre-K program in Florida. I work with 24 different families and provide counseling and case management services to them. All of these families live at or below the poverty line, and struggle to raise their children while trying to find decent employment or return to school. Any of these families would be so deserving of a gift like this – if I was blessed enough to be selected, I would randomly pick two of them to receive a gift card each!

I am so blessed that my husband still has his job even though there are many folks in this community who have been laid off. I am also blessed that my sister lives in the same community that my parents do thus allowing her to move in with them now that they are only surviving on social security. My mother has dementia at 85 and my father who is now 87 has slowed down considerably. Both have taken falls that Thank God have not injured them other than bruises. My sister, bless her heart, works full time, driving 45 minutes each way, takes care of my parents and her son who is 19 and is unable to find a job let alone afford to go to college. She is the full time care giver for my parents and asks for nothing in return. Unfortunately I live 6 hrs away and am unable to make it there for the holidays.
I would love to be able to give them both Publix gift cards for their holiday dinners. I’m sure there are probably even more needier families than mine.

I would donate the gift card to a family my friends and I are helping. They lost their home to a fire and have no renters insurance. Everyone needs a special meal. (They will get one no matter what, but I can buy more gifts for the kids if I win the gift card!)
My husband and I our children’s Pastors at our church and we have a family really really having a very hard time right now! He made it through a surgery that they did not believe he could and is still fighting to get better against one obstacle after another. Although working full time and struggling I offered to do thanksgiving this year but they would not hear of it so despite all, they are trying to make thanksgiving nice for the family. Every year, for each holiday we want to help a needy family. It just gives you so much joy to help someone in need. We would use BOTH gift cards to purchase a full turkey dinner & get some great deals on toys for the kids for xmas(& of course use coupons to maximize the savings)for a family who is struggling right now. They have 3 small children(7,5,8mths) & are a having a difficult time. It’s just the right thing to do. Thanks Jake for such a great idea for a giveaway!
While I would love to win a $50 Publix gift card, I am not actually cooking Thanksgiving dinner for anyone this year, so I would give away both cards to friends who are struggling. The first family is living on a teacher income from the dad while the mom stays at home with their two children. They are providing the family feast this year for their whole family and could certainly use the extra help. The second family is living on a teacher salary from the mom and the dad has struggled to find steady work for well over two years and is currently a stay-at-home dad for their daughter. Having help with groceries during this time of year would be a great blessing for them.

I may be in the minority here but let me say first I would enjoy the first gift card for my family and the second one I would give away not to a needy family that already receives Food stamps and can use them to get a free dinner but I would give it away to a family that is trying hard to make ends meet by working 2 jobs (sometimes 3) just to put food on the table and because they have a job they don’t qualify for assistance or they are too proud to apply. Of course I would love to have a gift card for myself and my husband to use for the holiday. I would love even more to give the second gift card to my mother–in-law. She always hosts an amazing Thanksgiving dinner, even though she has three children at home and works multiple jobs. Not to mention she takes care of her elderly father. And, she poured her heart and savings into her oldest daughter’s wedding last weekend. There is no other person I know who is more deserving, because her heart is always in the right place.
I would give both of the cards to my brother-in-law who has been taking care of my amazing sister and beautiful 5 year old neice. My sister has been battling leukemia for the past 2 years and has spent this past month in ICU. My brother-in-law has been splitting his time between home with my neice and the hospital with my sister. I unfortunately live very far away from them, and it would give me comfort to help give them a nice thanksgiving. I know the hospital bills are piling up, in addition to all of the medical bills and medication expenses over the past 2 years.

My Publix, however, has 2 different food donation drives going on right now. one is the $1, $3, $5 that Happy mentioned. The other is purchase a BAG of food with three different prices ranging from $5 to $17. I would take both cards and purchase $100 worth of the food packages that Publix has put together.

I would actually give both gift cards away. I work with families who have infants and toddlers with special needs. Many of our families have additional expenses due to their child’s special needs. Most of our families have to have one parent at home at all times, simply to manage their child’s medical needs. I would give the cards to 2 of our families that would appreciate a feast this year.

If I won, the 2nd $50 gift card would to go to the GROWS Literacy Program in Orlando, who specialize in educating very low income women and children on the fundamentals of reading to succeed. I am a full-time college grad school student myself, supporting my own family on just the bare essentials. I did a presentation on Nutrition and Wellness as a class service learning project and was able to provide a complete, HEALTHY meal for 60 women and children for just $15 with the help of coupons! and some donations from my own stockpile. The experience had greatly impacted me and I would love to come back with even more to give them. I could stretch $50 far enough to provide 60 people with a wonderful Thanksgiving Dinner that they otherwise may not have.

I would give the giftcard to a girl at work who I know constantly struggles to make ends meet. I know a lot of weeks they literally survive on ramen noodles mixed with whatever canned vegetables they’ve got and PB&J sandwiches. Since, I recently unexpectedly lost my job I would use the first gift card to have a small Thanksgiving dinner for myself. The second gift card I would give to a family I worked with for two years who have an amazing young child with Cerebral Palsy, her medical expenses are so great that they struggle with many things so I know that the gift card would be so helpful to help them this holiday season.
I would use my family’s gift card to share with my Mom & brother and prepare a nice meal for all of us. We are all caring for my Dad who is dying from end-stage Prostate Cancer. We will be lucky to have him here for Thanksgiving. Or maybe we’ll be celebrating his home-going that day. The other I would share with an elderly lady who lost her husband a couple of years ago – and just had to put her fourty-something daughter in a nursing home for Lou Gehrig’s disease.
I would give the second gift card to a family in my church that is hurting financially. The man is in remission from cancer but still has so many health problems. The family is such a blessing, so I would love to be a blessing to them.
Our family would use one to bless our local food bank (and get the kids to help coupon to make it go further!). The 2nd one would go to the incredible church secretary at the church that provides our homeschool group with facilities a couple of times each week. They closed earlier in the year, and the only staff member left onsite was a precious secretary who got her 2 week notice this past Wednesday. It would be a privilege to bless her and her family with the 2nd gift card!
It is amazing what children say and how it changes how even adults see things. My daughter had a similar epiphany, she said she wanted to give some of her presents from santa to a little girl whom has lost her home..she was worried santa would not find her now. There are so many in need, i would love to win the gift cards, honestly, i would use my giftcard to help give my LARGE family a wonderful thanksgiving and the second gift card, well, there are so many in need now adays with the economy the way it is. I know of a family, that was living in their car and JUST now found a place to live with their two kids…they would be in great need of a special gift like this. I am a teacher so I know of many of my student’s families who are in need. I would give both cards to two of my student’s families who struggle to make ends meet on a daily basis.

I would forward the $50 Publix gift card to my friend, Tina. I give her groceries every chance I can, but she doesn’t consider herself a charity. She is a single mom with a beautiful daughter, Hannah. Hannah is completely dependant on her mom. Hannah contracted meningitis as an infant and because of this, she is deaf, blind and completely dependant on her mom for all of her care. Hannah is now 17 and Tina struggles day to day to take care of herself and her daughter. It would be a blessing to give her the $50 Publix gift card!
First off, I want to say thank you for your generosity. I’ve been following your website for a couple of years now and I appreciate you more than you know. Over the last couple of years, for both Thanksgiving and Christmas, I have found families in need and have sort of “adopted” them for the holidays. Using my savvy couponing skills, I was able to purchase two holiday meals and gifts for the children for less than $100. This year, due to our own financial hardships, I am struggling with this feeling of guilt as I am not able to help out as I have in the past. Winning not only one, but two gift cards would be a huge blessing. Both gift cards would be given to two needy families. The first one is a co-worker, Tina and her family and the other is Steve, a neighbor, both of which are well deserving of these gifts.
My brother knows a family at his church who has 7 children and has recently fallen on hard times. I felt bad a couple weeks ago when I couldn’t contribute much to them because our stockpile is severly depleted, this would be great!

I would give the first gift card to the family of a 7-year-old girl that is in my daughters class. The first part of October the 30 something year old mother was 7 months pregnant, she had a heart attack. The mother and unborn child died. The second gift card I would give to a local Veterans Assistance Program. The program is the only one in the country that allows Veterans and their family’s to live at their facilities until they can get a stable job and housing.
I would give the second one to a family whose Daddy just lost his job. We’ve been there and it is really tough to lose a job right at holiday time.

Her husband left her over a month ago with no transportation while trying to adjust being away from family having just moved here from N. Carolina. The second one would be for daughter and three granddaughters. She is coping with cancer treatments with possible surgery while working at less then parttime because of her illness. Just the thought of being able to take away the worry of trying to figure out how they would be able to provide a normal Thanksgiving dinner to these well deserved families would be a blessed gift. Though I am a single mom and could always use the help, I feel very blessed for having enough after reading some other posts. As such, I’d give both of mine away. I’d give mine to my parents who have decided to cook for both sides of our family despite my dad being out of work and my mom only having a temp job. They’ve been through many struggles with trying to help my brother stay afloat this year and it’s really put a financial burden on them so this card would be a huge blessing. I’d give the second card to our 93 year old neighbor. I’d make up a small “blessings basket” with a few extras in there and tell her why I’m thankful for her.

At the company I work for, business has been really bad this year and everyone is on severely reduced hours. One of my co-workers who is one of the nicest, most caring people I’ve ever met, recently asked me if I thought the boss would consider allowing him to sleep in a company truck. It’s cold here in Douglasville GA and I was shocked to find out he is homeless. I wish I could give him money but I’m struggling myself. If I won the gift cards I would give both of them to him. I would give the second gift card to a needy family in my church. I am thinking of this particular family, its a son 26, his wife, his father and his two kids. I would chose them because right now they are going through very serious financial hardships. They are losing there home, the financial situation is putting a strain on there marriage and everything seems to be falling apart. I know this would bring some sunshine into there lifes.
I would give the extra gift card to a woman named Scherryl who really has changed my life.
I met her 9 years ago when I moved into an apartment complex. She was the cleaning lady (and still is.) She always checked up on us to make sure everything was ok, and when my son was born, she instantly took to him.
During hurricane Charlie, the roof of our apartment was damaged, and we had to move to a different apartment temporarily. She offered to watch our son while a few OTHER people that she gathered together helped us move our belongings. It was such a sweet gesture in such a terrible time.
When my son was 3, I was in Nursing School, and his father and I split up. He moved 200 miles away, and left no contact information. I wasn’t sure how I was going to manage working full time, going to school full time, and taking care of my son by myself. She immediately stepped up and told me not to worry about anything, and proceeded to care for my son 5 days a week (after she had already worked all day) to make sure that I could finish school.
I went through a period where I wasn’t close with my family, and she always invited us over for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner, and treated us as her own family. I really wasn’t sure how she was even able to do that, because she has always struggled, financially, herself.
I could write about what she’s done for me for days, it seems. I’ve been a Nurse for 4 years now, I have a wonderful man, two beautiful children, and a lovely house, and she’s been there since I didnt know how I was going to get through to the next day.
She has recently lost her sister and her brother to various health issues. Her two children (who are in their 30′s) have moved back in with her, and her daughter is expecting a baby in 3 months.
I’d love to be able to take some of the burden off of her for a change. I know she would be forever grateful for something so small from me, even though she’s done more for me than I could ever repay.

I run a food bank out of my home and have done so for the last two years now. I pay for everything out of my own pocket and since I have found couponing six months ago I have been able to dramtically increase the amount of items and the quality of items that I can give away free of charge. I do not ask questions, if they show up and say they need it, then its a done deal. I would love to be able to use the first gift card and the second gift card to give to some of my families. While I know of several families that have tight finances, none (that I am aware of) struggle to put food on the table. I would essentially “buy” the second gift card and pass on the $50 to Metropolitan Ministries. They can make $50 stretch so much farther to feed the hungry.

My dad lost his decent paying job a year ago and after much looking, had to take a job that he is making 70% less than what he was making a year ago. My mom has been unemployed for over a year now. My parents don’t qualify for any assistance. They are unable to afford their regular bills and honest to goodness, can’t afford to buy groceries. I would give it to HOpe’s Inn which is a home for women who are struggling with life controlling addictions. They can stay in this home for a year while they gain skills and tools to help them stay clean and return to their families. THey can even bring their children to live with them here.
I will acutally give both away. One to our Security Guard (he is is a contract worker) at work as he lives paycheck to pay check and struggles every day yet it is a wonderful and hard worker and the other I will give to my benefits coordinator and ask her to anonomyously give it out to an employee in need.
This post really touched my heart. My husband has been out of work for the past 2 years and every holiday I start to feel sad because there is no money to really celebrate like we have in the past. What a wonderful thing to do!! I just recently heard from a member of our Enlisted Spouse Club of a military family in great need who had been turning down assistance because he is too “proud”. I would find a way to leave this anonymously so they could not turn it away.

I would give both gift cards away. We are fortunate enough to celebrate Thanksgiving with my parents and they provide most of the food for our dinner. I would give one gift card to my neighbor who is in construction and goes for months at a time without a job. I would donate the second gift card to our local charity, The Place Forsyth, that helps families and individuals by providing food and financial assistance for bills.
I would love the oppurtunity to give this gift card to a cashier who actually works for publix. I dont know her personally but she is a single mother and works extremely hard at her job to make ends meet. I try to go through her line for the following reasons, shes patient, kind, thoughtful even when im in line with coupons and tell the people behind me it make take a little longer she will ask customer service to ring them up so they dont have to wait. I know most cashiers wouldnt do this because I have experienced this first hand. I would also buy additional groceries for my mother and two sisters with the other gift card they all work for around minium wage and dont have a lot to begin with every year i give them goodie bags with bath and cleaning products how lovely would it be to give them food as well. I have two families I would give the cards to, rather than keep one for myself. One friend of mine lost her husband last Thanksgiving, after a two year illness which left him unable to work. They lost their home and then he died. She has 8 children ages 1-17. Another friend is working three jobs and her husband has been unable to find employment since their business went bankrupt due to the economy (construction). I would love to be able to win these cards and pass them both on because it wouldn’t be so hard for them to accept a prize as it would be to accept “charity”. That might sound funny, but neither of them wants to be a burden to anyone else.

What an amazing time for this prize!! My Sunday School is actually doing a grocery gift basket for a family that is in our church. They are a couple with a child. The wife is in her late 30′s and her 34 year old sister passed away very unexpectedly 2 weeks ago. While they were at the hospital with her sister and missing work, neither the husband and wife received any pay and they were already struggling financially! What a blessing a gift card fro $50 would make.
This would certainly be a blessing for our family as well as for the Adullam House, which is a ministry that my family and I serve. They take infants and children of women who are incarcerated and raise them in a Christian home. The growth of this mission is unbelieveable, it is truly a testimate of God’s love. My husband, 14 year old daughter and I cook and do yard work for the Adullam House. We also get to love on the children and it just fills our hearts and souls to serve our Lord and Savior this way.

I would give this gift of thanks to a friend I made through couponing. I noticed her in the store about a year ago with her coupon binder and introduced myself and asked for her help learning how to coupon. I am couponing today because she showed me the ropes…I coupon because it is a smart thing to do…she coupons to put food on the table.
I would love a Publix gift card and would give the other one to my friend, Pam since she is always doing things for other people in need. She’s such a generous and good person.
I can’t tell you how much it means to see that people still have the sense of thankfullness and giving during the season. I want you to know that if I am chosen, I would give the second card to my Aunt and Uncle. We moved them here about five years ago so we could help them. He had a stroke about 16 years ago and she has stayed home to care for him all these years. Their only income is his disability so many times we need to pay their electric bill or buy groceries. Recently, we have not been able to help as much as we normally do. I get paid commission and we have been really slow. I am so thankful though to have a job and family. The VA just gave my Uncle a new electric wheel chair so he is already thankful. No matter who gets your cards I will keep you and your family in my prayers for extra blessings. Also, I would like everyone posting here to know that you and the families you are giving to are also in my prayers.
I would give it to our mail lady. She is a single mom of two daughters and could really use it. She is also a veteran, and struggling with getting hours cut, when she was already having a hard time.
I’d give my gift card to my husband’s new Private and his Wife who is pregnant with baby #2. They have just moved down to our post and don’t know anyone. They have one car and things are tough right now. I know they’d really appreciate it.
I would give it to my parents. They both have no income and live on a very tight budget.
I teach high school and I have a student in my AP Calculus class named Berenice. She is Mexican American and she lives with her father who is a welder and is currently unemployed because he just finished a big job. Her mom got deported and lives in Mexico with her brother. Berenice works everyday after school and on weekends and is responsible for the power bill and all the groceries for her and her dad. I am trying to teach her how to do coupons so she can stretch her dollar further. I would give it to her so that she could have Thanksgiving dinner for the two of them. Her dad has too much pride to apply for food stamps.
Wow. I am often amazed at the generousity of complete strangers. I figured someday I would be able to do the same but that has not happened yet. I would like to thank some of those people who have helped me along the way. Here is my story in a nutshell. I have a good job, husband who works, and three kids. We look great on paper but the reality is that we struggle a lot. My husband’s salary is completely garnished. It seems that I ended up having to pay for all of his past indiscresions so we ultimately live on my salary. I have to pay full price for everything. Daycare, health insurance, food… anything that the government gives help to those in need I pay full price because I look good on paper. I qualify for no assistance so that is why I coupon. It puts food on my table. Don’t get me wrong, my kids don’t go without. I put them first over my needs as any mother would. There are so many people I would like to thank who have helped me keep my family going.

I would give the second gift card to my parents. My mom has been battling colon cancer for the last year, and just had to have another surgery. She is going to be out of work for several weeks and things are tight with the holidays coming. My parents have always helped anyone who has needed it and are constantly coming to my aid. My dad even came down and watched my daughter when I had a c-section with her brother two months ago. My mom managed to paint a mural for my son, and to help me get my house clean and organized prior to my son’s arrival. They give so selflessly, that it would be nice to be able to give a little something back. Thanks for the opportunity!
I would give the card to my mom. She ALWAYS provides for us a wonderful holiday meal. Now that we are all grown up we all chip in to help. But I would like to help her finance her part of the meal and also teach her that her $ can go so much farther than she ever knew. I have been trying to get her and my sister into couponing and I believe this would help as well as show her how much she is appreciated for all the thanksgiving meals she has prepared for our family.

I would give this to my Moms church! Every week they make a whole bunch of bagged meals and meet at a local spot for the homeless and hand them out. I always donate stuff to them for sandwiches, etc. but this could realllllly stretch their budget to get some goodies for them for Thanksgiving!

I would give it to my neighbor. She just was able to get their heat turned back on after saving for a while. I’m sure she would love to have an extra $50 to help make ends meet.
What a blessing to others. I would give both of the gift cards to a “granny” that lives in our neighborhood that is raising her 4 young grandchildren ages 6-10.

I would give it to my store manager at my favorite store. I have been thinking about ways to give back to my people at Publix and since she is a single mother but can’t really coupon because she can’t make any mistakes and as we all know you do make mistakes when you are learning the process of coupons. She has to lead by example so she doesn’t get to get in on our awesome deals so to be able to give her a break would make me feel really good.

I would give a gift card to Mary, a widow and she is living on food stamps and caring for two grandchildren as well. The childrens mother is unable to care for them so they are living with Mary. They are ages 8 and 10. They never complain and are just a wonderful family. Mary is in her late fifties. They are currently without a car so they are dependent on others to get to church, shopping etc.
I would also give a way the first card. We are senior citizens living on a fixed income but we are so blessed. There are so many others who will go without Thanksgiving dinner that I would like to bless another family. I teach an English as a second language class every Thursday. My students want to learn English to better themselves. I would choose one of them to bless. I have a mini United Nations in my class with students (all adults) from Burma, Bolivia, Mexico, Chile, Honduras, Ecuador and Argentina. They are all struggling to provide for their families. I would find great joy in sharing our blessings.
Geduddleston, I think what you are doing is great. Do you have to have a degree to help in this way? I was a corporate trainer for over 8 years and truly enjoy being in a class environment. Maybe I could use my love of teaching to help teach english. Please let me know if there is some sort of volunteering I can do.

We have friends whose child just received an autism diagnosis. They could use some Thanksgiving cheer.
I know a young couple that moved here recently. He has a minimum wage job and she just found a job but won’t get paid for a couple of weeks. A gift card would make them most Thankful.
I would give them both to my brother. He has had a rough year and even though he has very little money, he took in a friends daughter to raise when her parents left.

I would love to give the $50 to someone like me, someone who just looks down on their luck and like they need it and surprise them with it at the store but I don’t know how exactly to go about that. I do know of a few families though who could use it. My fiancee’s parents are always helping us out as well as his brother’s family. They’ve been know to invite people to stay at their home in time of need even when they can’t really afford to. I know they would appreciate and put it to good use more than most people I know.
I have a coworker who is a single mother with two children. This woman took a leave of absense to have some necessary surgery last May and has been in the hospital almost ever since then. She has exhausted her sick leave, her medical insurance doesn’t cover the 20% that she encumbered, and her family is not able to continue to assist her with the expenses since she has no income. She has dropped all of her “luxery items” like her cell phone and cable and still struggles. The school has taken up a collection of money and food to help, but it is a drop in the bucket. I don’t want her to worry about how to be thankful for everything she has remaining without a Thanksgiving meal. Thank you for reading this and awarding me the $50.00 gift card.

Thanks Michelle for this chance. I’m an assistant pastor’s wife and there is a couple in our church who, last weekend, lost their 21 year old son to an unexpected heart failure. Not only are they grieving his loss, but the husband has not been able to work his hourly job for the past two months due to a broken leg with multiple complications. The wife has quite a commute to her teaching job to support them both right now. I would love to give them BOTH of the gift cards…it would be a blessing to them during this time and I know they could use them even more than my little family!

I volunteer at my local Children’s Hospital at the CHIPS Clinic- The Children’s Health System Intervention and Prevention Services. CHIPS Center is a place where child abuse victims can come for help and healing. We see many cases of sexual and physical abuse. Sometimes the kids are very very young. These families have been devastated and deserve a good Thanksgiving. I would chose a random family to give my other $50 gift card too, so that they may have a better holiday!
I work for a before and after school program in my area. It breaks my heart to see kids worry about the holidays. I just had a conversation with a child about Thanksgiving and he told me that they could not have it this year because they could not afford it. So if I were to win, I would give the young man and his family the gift cards so that they could have Thanksgiving. I know it would make his world!
I would give it to my friend at work so she will be able to give it to her son and daughter in law. Her daughter in law was just laid off from work, I know and right before the holidays. They we just starting to begin a family as a young couple and now don;t think they should since she was just laid off. And to top it all off someone just poisioned their two dogs and died two days before she lost her job. She will not be able to get unemployement since this was her first job and she was not there enough to claim benefits. So that is who I would share the gift card with. Happy Thanksgiving to all!!

I would give it to my supervisor. She has one of the purest hearts I know, and is always helping everyone in any way she can, even though she doesnt have much for herself. I would love for her to have help with thanksgiving dinner. She deserves it. And as for me, i would give it to my mom, she cooks for the elderly who have trouble cooking for themselves and the $50 could help us feed more people. Being recently laid off at my main job a coworker at my part time job has gone far and beyond her means to help me in all ways through this tough time. We would give the gift card my son’s classmate’s family. The child’s mom was put on bedrest and has been unable to work for quite a while. They are struggling to pay bills and feed the family.
My husband is the Navy. There are several young families on our ship who have a hard time making ends meet. I would give it to one of the families so they could have a wonderful meal and not feel so stressed about spending extra on groceries.

I would love to give the card to my Mother in Law. She was recently rediagnosed with cancer after being in remission for 6 years. This would be a great help because she had to stop work and my Father in law has missed a lot taking her for treatments.

What a nice giveaway! I would give my giftcard to my substitute teacher friend at my school. She has five children – 3 in college – and she and her husband both work two jobs and any extra side jobs available. Her kids always come first but her friends are a close second! She’s always doing for others and puts herself last.
I would give the giftcard to my sister. Her husband just lost his job, where he has worked for more than half his life. He made more than her and they were already struggling so I know its hard for them. She puts a smile on her face but I know she is really worried with the holidays coming up about how to make this a great year for them and their two children. They are amazing and know that what really matters is their family, if I could help them have sit down family time over a meal..it would mean more to me than my own card.

I sit on a non-profit board at a childcare center that provides QUALITY childcare to low income families. There are often kids who don’t have food at home, warm clothes, and even share socks with their siblings (like really take turns with who gets to wear the socks). It is truly heartbreaking!
The staff is also top-notch, but only make minimum wage or a little more.

I would give the gift card to my friend/co-worker. She is a single and wonderful mother of three (ages 13, 10 and 8) and a great person, teacher, and friend. She is a hard worker at school where she teaches second grade and gives it her all. She also works at an after school program and teaches one night class per semester just to make ends meet for her and her three kids. As the holiday season is beginning, she is looking for extra ways to earn a little extra money for all the extra expenses associated with the holidays. This gift card would be awesome for her!

OMGoodness so this is so nice of you. I am a nurse and have a client that said to me the other day “I so miss Thanksgiving” turns out she has not had Thanksgiving in years. She is Bedridden and her son takes care of her but they have nothing and are planning on skipping over again this year. This broke my heart so my family is planning on giving them a turkey day dinner but this would be a nice gift to add.
