Cookie Exchange Makeover: Host a Chex Party Mix-Change & Giveaway!
November 13, 2011
I love having little get togethers. There is nothing like gathering a bunch of friends together to chit chat and catch up on life. Whether you are hosting a playgroup, having a scrapbooking party or maybe a mom’s night off the last thing most of us want to do is spend all day prepping the food!
The folks at Chex sent me a great package full of different Chex cereals and all kinds of goodies to throw a Chex Party Mix-Change. I typically do cookie exchanges but this time I decided to shake it up a bit and go with Chex recipes!
I have to admit that I cheated a bit. Instead of having the different Chex mix recipes made ahead of time. I bought all of the ingredients and as part of the party, my friends helped me make our snacks! It never fails that whenever I have friends over we spend most of the time gathered around the kitchen…so this was a perfect. I printed up some 3 recipes and my friends divided up and we made some delicious snacks!
I went with the Original Chex Party Mix, Chex PB & Chocolate Blast and Chex Pumpkin Pie Crunch. Each of the recipes were super quick and easy! Before we knew it we had HUGE bowls of sweet and savory snacks ready for munching!
This might be my new favorite holiday exchange! Instead of spending hours in the kitchen creating cookies, a Chex Party Mix-Change is definitely the way to go. Need some ideas on ways to serve your Chex Mix here are a few for you:
- Cello Gorgeous! – Packaging your favorite Chex Party Mix recipes in cellophane bags is simple and cute. And, they’re endlessly customizable to add personal touches.
- It’s My Party – Flip a party hat upside down, line it with cellophane and it instantly becomes a festive cone-shaped container.
- Chex Cupcakes – Arrange cupcake liners filled with Chex Party Mixes neatly in a box.
- Chex-To-Go – Packaging Chex Party Mix recipes in a takeout container is quick and easy to “carry out.” We’re including 10 of these in your prize pack to help you get started!
- Tin Tower – Tin is “in” when it comes to creating a hip holiday container for Chex Party Mix-Change guests. Discover oodles of holiday tins at craft or dollar stores.
We put a huge dent in the Chex Mixes that we made, but I did have a surprise for my friends. The folks at Chex sent me some cute take out boxes. I did make some of my favorite party mix – Chex Muddy Buddies and had pre-packed it for my girlfriends to take home as a little treat! No one left empty handed!
The folks at Chex want to give one of you guys the chance to throw your own Chex Party Mix-Change and are giving on I Heart Publix reader a great gift pack that includes the following:
- 5 boxes of Chex cereal to create Chex Party Mix recipes
- 5 featured Chex Party Mix recipes
- 10 takeout containers so your guests can take their Chex Party Mix to-go
- $20 gift card to purchase recipe ingredients and decorating supplies
Entry is simple! You just need to complete the task below! You can gain up to 2 bonus entries as well (just make sure that you leave one entry for each one — up to a total of 3 comments.) As a reminder, comments left on Facebook, Twitter or other posts will not be included. I will choose the winner on Monday 11/14 at 11 pm. So the winner will have time to plan their party!!

I just hosted a Monster Halloween House Party with over 40 guests. I love to party with Chex mix. I have enjoyed it since my great Aunt started making it when I was a kid. I already have a potluck supper planned at my party building for Friday, November 18th. PICK ME!
I would hang the take home boxes of Chex mix on my tree as ornaments and let everyone select one.

I would ask my friends who had kids in college. In addition to the cookie exchange, we could make bundles for each of the kids. Mine just loves the white chocolate mix. But it is expensive to do just for one kid.
I would have them as a centerpiece and have everyone take one home
Have family members mixing their own chex party mix on Thanksgiving as a bonding session.

I love your blog, so helpful with saving money! I also LOVE chex mix.
I follow on Facebook and I would have a girls night with my chex mix.
I’m going to make the treat I ate while in amish country. They call it “White Trash” – rice chex cereal, nuts, pretzel pieces, white chocolate chips (first 3 ingredients are combined and the chocolate is spread over to make a bark, Then just break into pieces. YUMMY

healthy Chex Mix for the car party! All my girlfriends sit in car line and munch away and so do our little ones while we wait for the older ones to get out of school. A healthy snack would be great and since Chex are gluten free if would be great for everyone.
As a fresh spin, we would create the Chex Mix products and then we would pile in the cars and deliver the goodies to the elderly people in our community. If it was during Christmas time, we could also sing them some carols. (I follow on FB also!)
blindfolded! Never know what will be in your batch!

My girlfriends and I have an annual holiday “treat” exchange and it’s always a blast. We’ve made a few treats with Chex mix before so this would be wonderful to have. I’d make Chex mixthe focus of our party and try out all kinds of different recipes with it!
I LOVE your idea of letting everyone help make the mixes b/c we all definitely congregate in the kitchen anyway….and I so look forward to trying the Chex Pumpkin Pie Crunch recipe!

I love the fact that chex mix provides a sweet and salty option–it offers more than just the sweetness of cookies! I think a Munch and Mingle is in order with chex mix! This is great and I hope I win!
I follow you on facebook.
I would have all of my guests give the cookies that we make together to one of their neighbors, just as a friendly, neighborly, holiday gesture. So many of our neighbors are elderly and this would be a nice treat for them.
I’d first go to my favorite Publix to get all the ingredients to make a variety chex mix recipes. Then I’d make small gift bags to give the store employees. They deserve it for all their kindness they show me.
At cookie swaps, we usually have a sugar cookie ‘bar’ where the kids can decorate… I think I’d be tempted to do the same with Chex – mix and match your own!

I love what you did, having your friends help you make the dishes. I would incorporate this idea into a play date for my mom’s group. I love doing educational things for our kids, and baking/cooking is a great way to do this. They learn about measurements, mixing, etc. and get something yummy at the end!
Definitely a girls night in party, lots of Christmas music and girl talk while we mix up some tasty treats for our families and friends.
well I would have moms over with their kids and we would have an inventive fun party make your own chex mix treat!

A chex mix bar (similar to yogurt bar) where guests can mix in their own mixings of sweets n salty ingredients would be lots of fun!!!
I would make some in advance but also I think it would be fun to have a brainstorming session and come up with an original recipe and make it. Could turn out good or horrid but it would be fun!

Hey yall! I would make it a BYOI – bring your own ingredient party. I’d ask each guest to bring s suprise mix-in for the chex mix, and see how creative everyone could get. Some yummy thoughts…chili powder for a hot and spicy mix, craisens and white chocolate bits for a sweet treat, or reeses pieces for a creamy treat!

I thinking I’ll try mixing a bunch together for something new and different.

Buffet style….
I would make it a mystery mix party. Have everyone bring something different to put in the mix. Kind of like the stone soup story….everyone’s contribution of one ingredient can turn into something sooooooo good! Of course I may be tempted to also make it an Ugly Christmas Sweater/chex mix party!

I would make it a Chex Mix Party by having games-such as Name That Chex Mix(of some chex mixes I would make up before the party) ere blindfolded guests have to guess what ingredients make up the Chex Mix, The Chexes-awards for who makes the best custom chex mix from a bar and we’d have categories like Sweet, Salty, Chocolate, etc. I’d send each guest home with a grab bag of little bags of all the mixes made before and at the party.

The commercials on TV have been showing chocolate and other items being sprinkled over the Chex mix out of the microwave. I would love to try this and of course the different Chex mixes would have to have nuts.

I don’t know. I have never had a cookie exchange, but the chex party mix exchange sounds like a great idea.
I think making the sweet nothings with it and then giving having all the women write an encouraging note for her spouse would be a great way to do it.
My 5 year old grandson just adopted a soldier in Afghanistan and the soldier requested some Chex mix and Fruit rollups in his box. My daughter said “I hope Chex mix goes BOGO next week.” Homemade would be much better. Plus extra to share with his buddies.
I think Chex Party Mix would go down great while decorating the Christmas tree. I cut out the recipe from my inserts this morning and I am planning to do that.
I would set up a sundae buffet, like you do for ice cream toppings only the ingredients would all be parts of recipes for chex mixes. Then, I would have little recipe cards so the guests could write down each of the ingredients they used to make their own creation and they could share their new recipe with the rest of the guests.
I would like to try to make “puppy chow” with powdered sugar

My cousins are planning a much needed girl’s night and making different varieties of Chex recipes sounds like a good idea. I like to have a color theme when I have get-togethers so I would choose fall colors, like burnt orange, red, and brown. We would all make three different recipes and each one would take home some of each in the three different color takeout boxes!! Oh…this sounds like fun!

have each guest make their “goodies” to be eaten at the party, provide the recipe for all the others guests AND have each guest bring a basket of the ingredients to make the “goodie” they brought. the baskets are then distributed to other guests, maybe dirty santa style.
I would have a variety of chocolates (milk, dark, white) that folks could dip their Chex mix in (sort of like a chocolate fountain).

CHEX this out! I would plan a teen gathering (my class) and play off the Chex (checks) theme. Red checkeredd table cloths, napkins, etc. I would send a list of ingredients early and ask that they CHECK off what ingredient they would bring to the exchange. Of course I would recommend wearing something checkered to the party. Bags with checkered ribbons would hold take home treats. I think we would play checkers! This CHEX party could be fun.
I couldn’t think of a better way then how you had your fun evening. I think my friends will enjoy the same chex mix party.. I hope I win… I was just on
chex mix.com for recipes and it looks like fun…

I am a college English teacher. I would have other faculty friends meet in our staff kitchen at school, make huge batches of a few different flavors, package them up in decorative bags and distribute them to our students. College students are always hungry, away from home, and would appreciate the care and effort of their teachers. Of course, we would all eat some, too, while we work on our goodie bags!
I think that you could spin the idea by adding caroling. Everyone could bring one big bowl and several pre-packaged. Once all have gathered, sampled, and swapped recipes everyone could go caroling. At each house you could spread the hoilday spirit through song and dropping off some delicious samples. Especially great for shut-ins and such.
I would like all guests to vote for top 3 Chex Party Mix recipes, and then have dedicted few to make for the party, and for everyone take home with them.

Some friends and I do an annual cookie exchange. Well I do not participate in the cookie exchange, but we do have my brother and his family come and stay the night before Thanksgiving and we also have some cousins come over and we all get in the kitchen and start to prep to cook. We start an assembly line with the items that need to be cut up, cleaned, cooked, etc. For our change up we would also get out all the stuff for the chex party and make a variety for snacking before Thanksgiving. I have made the bufflo kind and it was fantastic.

my local dollar store has the little relish trays that are compartmentalized. off the top of my head, i would have everyone bring copies(enough for all invited) of their own favorite chex mix…(with the things they add or leave out of the traditional recipe etc) and a batch of that recipe.
get your beverages sit back relax a minute and vote on which recipes to to whip up. then assembly line it, make it great, and have some fun!!
when done take each persons batch and put it in 2 bowls (one bowl for sampling and 1 for take home). set out fresh mixes with sampling bowls on table and let everyone fill their little “relish tray” sit back relax, enjoy the companionship, chit chat, compare recipes, etc and always add a little music).
as the evening closes ,when guests are ready, set out remaining bowls and have each one refill their little tray as a take home gift (don’t forget
cellophane tap and bow!!
hope you all enjoy YOUR chex mixchange parties!

To put a fun son my party, I would insist that my friends show up in costumes, and we would put Halloween sprinkles and candy corn in our mixes (where the sweetness would taste good). I would call it Halloween 2.0 Chex Style. I know it sounds silly, but I’m “that” person that puts up her Halloween decorations on September 1st and keeps them out for too long and my friends know and love it.
I would like to have a party and have people vote on the best one and give a prize out. Maybe even a couple out.

There is endless options for chex party mix. I like it because everyone can make it to suite their own taste. I personally like a spicy chex mix:)
I would have everyone bring their own version of chex mix and we all vote on the best!

I would get the kids involved in helping make cute teacher gifts decorated by them.

We always make homemade goodies for the 5 doctors in the medical practice I work for. I think this would be an excellent way for my department to have some staff bonding and give the doctors some special treats.
I would love to do this as a party for my preteen daughter and her friends. They are old enough to want to work in the kitchen but too young for a true cookie swap so this would be a perfect party idea for them. Crank up the music and pass out the Chex!!!
I receive email updates
My spin would be trying different variations of the same recipe(s). Maybe take the traditional chex recipe and make it. Then try it with double the seasonings. Or extra Worcestershire. One with all rice chex. I think it’d be fun to see how many different batches you could make off the same receipe.

I would ask everyone to do some research and find a recipe for Chex Mix party snack and email it to me. I would have the group vote prior to the party on their top 3 and we would make those! I think we would also decorate some jars so that they could be filled with Chex party mix and given as gifts to teachers, bus drivers and etc.

I would set up a chex mix bar – where everyone could come up with their own, unique creation

I love having a cookie swap that’s interactive – in addition to bringing cookies, I have a crockpot that I use to melt chocolate in. For this you can dip anything – cookies, pretzels or nuts. With Chex, I’d use marshmallows to make ‘Chex treats’ for dipping. Also, I would crush Chex mix and using pretzel rods, have guests dip the rods in chocolate and roll in the crushed Chex mix. Yum!
I would have everyone bring a little extra and put it all together in a nice gift basket. I would then have us vote on who we should give the basket to (example: a neighbor, a leader in the community, etc.). It would be a great way to give back to someone too.

I prefer muddy buddies to Xmas cookies anyways. This is a good idea. I think I will bring Muddy Buddies to my cookie exchange this year instead. I like the idea of making a giveaway basket too for a neighbor who may not be able to do his or her own holiday baking this year. (and I follow you on FB).
I would make a contest out of it.

We do “movie night” a lot at my house… so I would try and have some different Chex mixes that we’re related to the movie, or have guests bring recipes related to the movie…
for example, if we were watching “American Pie”… we may have the Chex Apple Pie Snack Mix, Chex Pumpkin Pie Crunch, and Party Hardy Chex Mix…

I think it would be fun and different to have a chex party instead of a cookie swap. I would ask everybody to bring their favorite chex recipe and then we all make each other’s recipes. It would be fun to put them in the cute boxes provided and give them to teachers or neighbors. Sounds like fun!
I would have a 12 days of chex mix recipies (instead of 12 days of christmas cookies).

I think that it would be fun to choose several recipes for chex mixes, then put them in a bowl and have each friend take one of them out of the bowl. The one you choose is the one that you make. Then I would use the containers that came with the party box and maybe take them around to the different firehouses in my city for the Fire fighters to enjoy.

I’d have each one bring a special ‘secret’ ingredient to throw in!

Hmmmm…if my friends/family can make it with all the holiday activities already planned I think we would each make a batch and then each take home a little of each batch for themselves and a few to give as home made gifts. If I can’t get them together then I think an afternoon with my nephews would be in order!
I think it would be fun to make up some different Chex mixes or have everyone bring their favorite, then blindfold the guests and ask them to guess the other ingredients or flavors.
Thank you!

I think it would be awesome to make 3 or 4 recipes and put each batch in a festive holiday bucket or large bowl. I would definitely have everything decorated…..we would vote on our favorite, play some fun games, decorate some chinese take out boxes and then all go around with the Chinese take out boxes to make ourselves a take home box of each Chex Mix! Of course I would print up all the recipes and make little booklets for everyone to take home and make their own!!

It would be fun for everyone to bring an “extra” portion of their version of chex mix in a decorative container. We would have a silent auction for the containers and the proceeds would go to our local animal shelter. This is alot of fun when you have 20+ people.
Everyone gets to sample what they are bidding on beforehand.
have everyone bring their favorite cookie/receipe and have the kids choose the best one.

I’ve been to the cookie party where we had blind tasting of some of the cookies and had to guess kinds of cookies/ingredients with prizes to the winners. I’d do that with some of the different Chex Mixes. And maybe the prizes can be the Christmas scented Glade candles I now have stockpiled

I would change it up by having costumes, door prizes, and perhaps some type of required funky ingredient for all the chex mixes. It would also be fun to have prizes in several diff. categories for the chex mix (that way everybody would get a prize and it would keep it fun)
I would serve the Chex Mix recipe with vanilla chips; serve it instead with chocolate chips to change it up.

First I would hand out the take out boxes and have scrapbooking materials layed out on the table for my friends to decorate with. Also, I would make all of the different chex mix recipes ahead of time so all of my friends can fill their personalized take out boxes with whichever kind of chex mix they want!

This will be great to package for when the local Foster kids meet with santa. about 30 of us get together every year and assemble goodie bags. Great change up from cookies!
A chex mix exchange party sounds like so much more fun than a cookie exchange. I would purchase some ball canning jars and decorate for my guests so at the end of the night they have a cute thing to take their chex mix home in.
I would put extra prizes with the cookies (worth up to a set $ amount) and then allow people to ‘steal’ cookies+prizes from each other as we go down list of folks exchanging cookies.

I would do this with my family and require to have theme so that the best overall representation of the theme gets an extra prize
I would use the party to educate everyone of the many things that can be made gluten free with chex cereal. Very grateful for Chex products in our Gluten Free World
I would ask for new ideas on ingredients for chex mix. Tried and true varieties are great, but a little creativity leads to new tastes.
Our women family members (and a few friends) have a Bake Day every December where we all make homemade candy and treats to give to our friends, co-workers or employees. This would make a great addition! We could each make a different sort of Chex Mix recipe and divide it up so everyone gets some of each to package up and hand out!

I would have single types of chex mix – such as wheat, rice or corn only and not mix them. I love the wheat chex the best!!!
Have a guess what is in this contest? Let people taste the chex mix and guess what is in it or what flavors they taste.
Haven’t ever actually done one…sounds fun though.
