Cookie Exchange Makeover: Host a Chex Party Mix-Change & Giveaway!

November 13, 2011

chex logo Cookie Exchange Makeover: Host a Chex Party Mix Change & Giveaway!I love having little get togethers. There is nothing like gathering a bunch of friends together to chit chat and catch up on life. Whether you are hosting a playgroup, having a scrapbooking party or maybe a mom’s night off the last thing most of us want to do is spend all day prepping the food!

The folks at Chex sent me a great package full of different Chex cereals and all kinds of goodies to throw a Chex Party Mix-Change. I typically do cookie exchanges but this time I decided to shake it up a bit and go with Chex recipes!

I have to admit that I cheated a bit. Instead of having the different Chex mix recipes made ahead of time. I bought all of the ingredients and as part of the party, my friends helped me make our snacks! It never fails that whenever I have friends over we spend most of the time gathered around the kitchen…so this was a perfect. I printed up some 3 recipes and my friends divided up and we made some delicious snacks!

I went with the Original Chex Party Mix, Chex PB & Chocolate Blast and Chex Pumpkin Pie Crunch. Each of the recipes were super quick and easy! Before we knew it we had HUGE bowls of sweet and savory snacks ready for munching!

This might be my new favorite holiday exchange! Instead of spending hours in the kitchen creating cookies, a Chex Party Mix-Change is definitely the way to go. Need some ideas on ways to serve your Chex Mix here are a few for you:

  • Cello Gorgeous! – Packaging your favorite Chex Party Mix recipes in cellophane bags is simple and cute. And, they’re endlessly customizable to add personal touches.
  • It’s My Party – Flip a party hat upside down, line it with cellophane and it instantly becomes a festive cone-shaped container.
  • Chex Cupcakes – Arrange cupcake liners filled with Chex Party Mixes neatly in a box.
  • Chex-To-Go – Packaging Chex Party Mix recipes in a takeout container is quick and easy to “carry out.” We’re including 10 of these in your prize pack to help you get started!
  • Tin Tower – Tin is “in” when it comes to creating a hip holiday container for Chex Party Mix-Change guests. Discover oodles of holiday tins at craft or dollar stores.

We put a huge dent in the Chex Mixes that we made, but I did have a surprise for my friends. The folks at Chex sent me some cute take out boxes. I did make some of my favorite party mix – Chex Muddy Buddies and had pre-packed it for my girlfriends to take home as a little treat! No one left empty handed!

I would make it a Chex Mix Party by having games-such as Name That Chex Mix(of some chex mixes I would make up before the party) ere blindfolded guests have to guess what ingredients make up the Chex Mix, The Chexes-awards for who makes the best custom chex mix from a bar and we’d have categories like Sweet, Salty, Chocolate, etc. I’d send each guest home with a grab bag of little bags of all the mixes made before and at the party.

  127. brenda says:

My 5 year old grandson just adopted a soldier in Afghanistan and the soldier requested some Chex mix and Fruit rollups in his box. My daughter said “I hope Chex mix goes BOGO next week.” Homemade would be much better. Plus extra to share with his buddies.

CHEX this out! I would plan a teen gathering (my class) and play off the Chex (checks) theme. Red checkeredd table cloths, napkins, etc. I would send a list of ingredients early and ask that they CHECK off what ingredient they would bring to the exchange. Of course I would recommend wearing something checkered to the party. Bags with checkered ribbons would hold take home treats. I think we would play checkers! This CHEX party could be fun.

  217. cheryl says:

I am a college English teacher. I would have other faculty friends meet in our staff kitchen at school, make huge batches of a few different flavors, package them up in decorative bags and distribute them to our students. College students are always hungry, away from home, and would appreciate the care and effort of their teachers. Of course, we would all eat some, too, while we work on our goodie bags!

  262. Margaret says:

I think that you could spin the idea by adding caroling. Everyone could bring one big bowl and several pre-packaged. Once all have gathered, sampled, and swapped recipes everyone could go caroling. At each house you could spread the hoilday spirit through song and dropping off some delicious samples. Especially great for shut-ins and such.

get your beverages sit back relax a minute and vote on which recipes to to whip up. then assembly line it, make it great, and have some fun!!
when done take each persons batch and put it in 2 bowls (one bowl for sampling and 1 for take home). set out fresh mixes with sampling bowls on table and let everyone fill their little “relish tray” sit back relax, enjoy the companionship, chit chat, compare recipes, etc and always add a little music).
as the evening closes ,when guests are ready, set out remaining bowls and have each one refill their little tray as a take home gift (don’t forget
    cellophane tap and bow!!
hope you all enjoy YOUR chex mixchange parties!

To put a fun son my party, I would insist that my friends show up in costumes, and we would put Halloween sprinkles and candy corn in our mixes (where the sweetness would taste good). 414. Chelsey Renfrow says:

I would change it up by having costumes, door prizes, and perhaps some type of required funky ingredient for all the chex mixes. It would also be fun to have prizes in several diff. categories for the chex mix (that way everybody would get a prize and it would keep it fun)

  415. Amy Anderson says:

I would serve the Chex Mix recipe with vanilla chips; serve it instead with chocolate chips to change it up.

First I would hand out the take out boxes and have scrapbooking materials layed out on the table for my friends to decorate with. Also, I would make all of the different chex mix recipes ahead of time so all of my friends can fill their personalized take out boxes with whichever kind of chex mix they want!

This will be great to package for when the local Foster kids meet with santa. about 30 of us get together every year and assemble goodie bags. Great change up from cookies!

  431. Tasha says:

A chex mix exchange party sounds like so much more fun than a cookie exchange. I would purchase some ball canning jars and decorate for my guests so at the end of the night they have a cute thing to take their chex mix home in.

  432. Mark PG says:

I would put extra prizes with the cookies (worth up to a set $ amount) and then allow people to ‘steal’ cookies+prizes from each other as we go down list of folks exchanging cookies.

I would use the party to educate everyone of the many things that can be made gluten free with chex cereal. Very grateful for Chex products in our Gluten Free World :)

  436. Cheryl says:

I would ask for new ideas on ingredients for chex mix. Tried and true varieties are great, but a little creativity leads to new tastes.

  437. Amy T. says:

Our women family members (and a few friends) have a Bake Day every December where we all make homemade candy and treats to give to our friends, co-workers or employees. This would make a great addition! We could each make a different sort of Chex Mix recipe and divide it up so everyone gets some of each to package up and hand out!
