Meal Plan Monday

June 21, 2010

I had to giggle a bit as I got an email last week from someone who insisted that because my weekly totals are so low that I must not ever cook at home!!  Some days I wish I did not have to spend so much time in the kitchen!!

Believe it or not we eat at home most every meal! I will admit that not every meal is a gourmet experience but I do try to vary our dinners to avoid monotony!!  What you see on my weekly list may not be used for quite a while!  I have enough on hand so that I could easily go without shopping for several weeks!  I find it is easier to stay on budget by creating my menu based on the sale and what I have on hand.  Each week I try to add a little to my inventory so that I can continue to keep the meals as varied as possible.

This week is a small list as I will get a break from the kitchen as we are going to go out of town for a few days…so I only had to plan for Monday through Thursday.

Here is what I have planned:

Stuffed Peppers
Spinach & Feta Stuffed Chicken, Mashed Potatoes, Lima Beans
Peach Chicken, Rice, Squash Casserole & Green Beans
Homemade Fish Sticks, Fries & Coleslaw

Sounds yummy!! :) I am new to using coupons. Normally I plan my meals and then shop. You shop and then plan your meals? Maybe I am going about this all wrong!!

Can we come to your house for dinner??… that menu sounds great!!!
We have a family plan. For each meal eaten at home we earn a family buck for a reward.
    At $5 – family goes for icecream, $10 = happy meals, $15 = movie, $20 = sit down dinner.
It is not about the reward for me – it is about teaching about choices (spend the family buck for ice cream or save for a movie)…Has to be a family choice at each $5 earned.. we have a jar and our own fake dollars – but the kids really get it.
If we have 20 meals (all breakfast, lunch and dinners at home in a week) we go for one meal… normally it take 2 weeks to earn $20 family bucks.. but this weekend we did a movie and an ice cream… and the freeze is emptied each month :) and I shop for food once every 3 weeks (instead of 3 times a week like before). We have a great time at home anyways :)
