coupon question and answer

We’ve been answering questions for Ask I Heart Publix for over four years now, and we’ve definitely found that some questions keep popping up as new couponers write in. So every month we’re going to feature a “Best Of” Ask I Heart Publix, where we post some of our favorite questions and answers from past weeks, months, and years.

Don’t forget to look under the “About” tab where you can find the questions and answers from past weeks!

Here are this week’s “Best of” questions:

  1. Can you use a coupon from the newspaper and from Coupons.com on the same item?
  2. How are people able to print so many coupons?
  3. Can I redeem Upromise offers after the fact?
  4. Should I worry about trying to use all of my coupons that are expiring, or should I just match coupons with sales as they happen and forget about trying to use up the expiring ones?
  5. Is there a limit to how many “free chicken” deals you can do at Publix?

And here are the answers!

1. Sharon wants to know: Can you use a coupon from the newspaper and one from coupons.com on the same item, or they both considered a manufacturer coupon?

Christy: At Publix you can use one manufacturer’s coupon and one Publix or competitor store coupon on a single item. It matters less about where you get the coupon as it does what kind of coupon it is. Usually the coupons on coupons.com or in the Sunday inserts are manufacturer’s coupons…so you can only use one or the other.

Michelle: Typically they are both manufacturer’s coupons so you will not be able to combine them. On occasion you will find store coupons as printables or in the inserts…but they will clearly be labeled as store coupons so you will be able to tell.

Coupon Question And Answer – Ask I Heart Publix 1/7

coupon question and answer

If you have a question about couponing at Publix, this is the place to find the answer! Each week my buddy Christy and I have a little coupon question and answer session here on Ask I Heart Publix. Keep sending in those questions – we love to answer them! Just remember if we didn’t get to your question this week…we will do our best to cover it another week!!

Remember–there is a tab at the top of the site under “About” titled “Ask I Heart Publix” where you can find the questions and answers from past weeks!

Here are this week’s questions:

  1. Have the Kellogg’s Family Rewards coupons changed?
  2. Why do SmartSource and Redplum put out two separate inserts some weeks?
  3. Why do you write the final price on deals the way that you do?
  4. Does everyone get the personalized Checkout 51 offers?
  5. Is the savings from the Shell Fuel Rewards Network worth another program to keep up with?

And here are the answers!

1. Shelly wants to know: When I redeemed some points today on Kellogg’s rewards, it only allowed me to print once instead of twice. I wonder if that’s another change in their program. I was disappointed about the $1.50 coupons being phased out, but even more disappointed if they will only allow one print now. It makes it less valuable/less worth the time & effort to participate in their rewards program.

Christy: I’ve read a lot of comments about this and it seems like there have been some changes to the Kellogg’s Family Rewards program. The values of coupon rewards have changed a bit and it seems like you can only get one print instead of the two we used to get.

Though these changes are a bit of a bummer, the Kellogg’s Family Rewards program is a free ‘bonus’ program with higher value coupons than we usually get in the inserts or as printables, so I’ll definitely continue to use them.

Michelle: Yes, I have found the same. Like Christy mentioned…I see this program as a perk. Getting the free, higher value coupons requires very little effort on my part. I am happy to get the extra savings when I can!

Here are this week’s “Best of” questions:

  1. Where can I find the coupons that you call “hangtags” in the ad? Are these at every store?
  2. What is better – Kroger Fuel Points or Publix Gas Card savings?
  3. Is there a limit to how many deals I can grab with Advantage Buy Publix coupons?
  4. What gas stations are the gas cards (for the Gas Card Deal) valid at?
  5. I love your can organizer – where did you get it?

And here are the answers!

1. Jamie wants to know: Where can I find the coupons that you call hangtags in the ad? Are these at all the stores?

Well hangtags are hit or miss. They are the little coupons that you find hanging around the neck of a bottle. While they may not be available at all stores, often when they are spotted they will be at many stores. The coupons are a promotion like any other coupon and usually put out around the same time.  They are added to the matchups so you can be on the lookout and check your binder from previous purchases.

Coupon Question And Answer – Ask I Heart Publix 12/17

coupon question and answer

If you have a question about couponing at Publix, this is the place to find the answer! Each week my buddy Christy and I have a little coupon question and answer session here on Ask I Heart Publix. Keep sending in those questions – we love to answer them! Just remember if we didn’t get to your question this week…we will do our best to cover it another week!!

Remember–there is a tab at the top of the site under “About” titled “Ask I Heart Publix” where you can find the questions and answers from past weeks!

Here are this week’s questions:

  1. This coupon has another store’s logo on it…it doesn’t seem like I should be able to use it at Publix. Is this right?
  2. I’m new…can you tell me how many coupons I can use on a single item?
  3. Are the $5/$30 Winn Dixie coupons ever coming back?
  4. Is there such a thing as a regional ibotta offer?
  5. Does Checkout 51 allow you to redeem their offers more than once?

And here are the answers!

1. WR wants to know: I noticed that a few of the printable coupons lately have printed with a different store’s logo. We’re all trying to save money here and ink is very expensive. I noticed the Safeway logo [on one coupon] and I thought it was meant to be used exclusively at that store. I don’t have Safeway where I live and I think it wouldn’t be right to use it at my Publix.

Christy: This will ultimately depend on your specific store, but most Publix stores allow manufacturer’s coupons that are printed with other store’s logos as long as the coupon does not specifically state that it can be used ONLY at that other store. The logo is essentially a suggestion but not a requirement without that specific wording.

Michelle: Manufacturer’s coupons can be used at any store provided there is not verbiage requiring it only be used at a specific store.

Now as far as whether that is right or wrong…that will be a personal decision. I have spoken with various brand reps about this and some of them don’t care at all, saying that they just want folks to bring their products home. I have had others who say that they “prefer” the coupon be used at the store listed as they have worked out some kind of promotion/partnership, but end by stating that ultimately the coupon CAN be used anywhere.

Coupon Question And Answer – Ask I Heart Publix 12/3

coupon question and answer

If you have a question about couponing at Publix, this is the place to find the answer! Each week my buddy Christy and I have a little coupon question and answer session here on Ask I Heart Publix. Keep sending in those questions – we love to answer them! Just remember if we didn’t get to your question this week…we will do our best to cover it another week!!

Remember–there is a tab at the top of the site under “About” titled “Ask I Heart Publix” where you can find the questions and answers from past weeks!

Here are this week’s questions:

  1. Some bloggers make is seem like I can use these coupons on the same items…can I?
  2. My Publix wouldn’t accept a Publix Digital Coupon because it’s over their coupon limit. Have you heard of this happening?
  3. I can’t find a Publix Digital Coupon that you have listed in this week’s coupon matchups. Help!
  4. How does the Scotch Tape coupon work with our BOGO deal this week?
  5. Are turkeys going to be on sale for 59¢/lb again before Christmas?

And here are the answers!

1. Crystal wants to know: I have been couponing for a few years now and I feel as though I do a really good job of “playing by the rules” and always using coupons in the way that they are intended. I did a whole lot of research when I first started and I thought that I understood how “B1G1 coupons” worked. Recently, I have seen different bloggers handle them differently and I really want to be sure I am using them correctly.

For example, can you combine a $1/1 product coupon with a bogo coupon on 2 items? In other words, can you “buy” the first item with with the $1/1 coupon and then receive the second item free item by using the bogo coupon? Or, does the bogo coupon “attach” to both items?

I certainly wouldn’t want to unethically combine the coupons, but of course, I would like to save additional money on the item I’m “buying” if it’s acceptable.

The kind of coupon combinations that you are talking about are not allowed at Publix. Those of us who have been shopping at Publix for a while now might remember the days when we could combine coupons like this, but the Coupon Policy update in 2013 changed that. Here is the information straight from the Publix website:

Q: I have a “$1 off the purchase of two items” manufacturer’s coupon. Can another manufacturer’s coupon be used for either of these items?

A: No. When the manufacturer issues a “$1 off the purchase of two items” coupon, it requires the purchase of two items. So, because you have to purchase both items to meet the coupon’s requirements, a manufacturer’s coupon has already been applied to both items.

Though the coupon they are talking about is a $1/2 coupon, the principle is the same. The Buy One Get One coupon requires the purchase of two items, so an additional coupon cannot be used.

Remember–there is a tab at the top of the site under “About” titled “Ask I Heart Publix” where you can find the questions and answers from past weeks!

Here are this week’s questions:

  1. Why do the matchups still contain Target coupons that don’t have sizes included?
  2. Do Kellogg’s Family Rewards Points expire?
  3. Have you heard about a change in poliy regarding the gas card promotion?
  4. How many items can I buy with a digital coupon?
  5. Are Publix personalized digital coupons just offered in certain areas?

And here are the answers!

1. Patty wants to know: I’m a little confused as to why Target coupons with no size are still being included in the matchups. It was my understanding that they will no longer be accepted under the new policy.

I wrote a bit about the “no size restriction” issue with the new Coupon Policy update over here. As I’ve said, I don’t think the coupon policy is written with the intent to ban the use of any coupon without a size restriction, and I don’t think every store is reading it that way.

I include all possible valid coupons for the matchups so that you guys can pick your best deal. Hopefully many of you are still able to use coupons without size restrictions. ;)

1. Stephanie wants to know: I am new to couponing. My aunt has been doing it for 3 years and tried to explain via text (kinda confusing). How does couponing work at publix??

Publix is a great place to save as you can use manufacturer’s coupons with store coupons to save big. Publix offers great BOGO sales that are even better when you add in coupons.

You can see the current Publix Coupon Policy here —> Publix Coupon Policy Updated 10/1
I post a sneak peek of the ad on Monday mornings so you have time to get your coupons/shopping list ready. The Super Deals are posted on Tuesday…those are the best deals in the ad. If you want to get your feet wet, you might focus on the Super Deals and go from there.

  1. What is a Snap offer?
  2. Does everyone get the same Snap offers?
  3. Can you use a coupon from the newspaper and one from coupons.com on the same item?
  4. Once upon a time, you could mail your unused, expired coupons to the military and they could use them. Can you still do that?
  5. Have you heard about changes to the Penny Item coupon and how it is accepted?

And here are the answers!

1. Kima wants to know: I noticed a number of coupon matchups in the new Publix ad that say “Snap” offer. Did I miss something? What’s a Snap offer?

Michelle: Snap is a new cash back program that seems to have launched just last week…you can see my post about it here. It is similar to programs like ibotta and Checkout 51 – you purchase your items, upload your receipt, and get cash back in your Snap account. The big difference is that you don’t need a smartphone to use the program…you can upload your receipts on their website if you prefer or download the app if that is more convenient.

Christy: I have to say that I am loving Snap so far – the app version is nice and easy to use, and I LOVE the unlimited redemption offers. I’m not sure if those will continue or if they are promotional in order to get people excited about using their program…but either way, I’ll take the savings happily! :)

Coupon Question And Answer – Ask I Heart Publix 9/24

Here are this week’s “Best of” questions:

  1. Can I use a paper coupon and a Upromise eCoupon on a single item?
  2. Now that Kroger has stopped doubling coupons in so many areas, do you think Publix will stop doubling too?
  3. What happened to the “Buy Theirs, Get Ours” promotion?
  4. Where do you get inexpensive ink to print your coupons?
  5. How often do you go through your stockpile?

And here are the answers!

1. Becky wants to know: I just started using Upromise, and I’m wondering if I can redeem a Upromise eCoupon along with a manufacturer’s coupon on a single item.

Michelle: You can get cash back from Upromise and use a paper coupon at the register on one item. The Upromise coupons are coded blue to show that this is a discount in addition to other coupons. Like ibotta, Upromise gives you cash back and does not discount an item at checkout. Is this the right answer…I honestly don’t know. I have looked all over the Upromise site and could not find this question addressed. Let me know if I missed it. I have always used coupons with Upromise and never had issues getting my deposit.
