  5. How do you protect your computer from viruses and malware?

And here are the answers!

1. Stephanie wants to know: I am new to couponing. My aunt has been doing it for 3 years and tried to explain via text (kinda confusing). How does couponing work at publix??

Publix is a great place to save as you can use manufacturer’s coupons with store coupons to save big. Publix offers great BOGO sales that are even better when you add in coupons.

You can see the current Publix Coupon Policy here —> Publix Coupon Policy Updated 10/1
I post a sneak peek of the ad on Monday mornings so you have time to get your coupons/shopping list ready. The Super Deals are posted on Tuesday…those are the best deals in the ad. If you want to get your feet wet, you might focus on the Super Deals and go from there.
The Ad & matchups, Super Deals, Unadvertised Publix deals and more are under the PUBLIX DEALS tab in the navigation bar…just hover over that tab and choose where you’d like to go.
Happy saving!

Coupon Question And Answer – Ask I Heart Publix 10/8

Here are this week’s “Best of” questions:

  1. What is a Snap offer?
  2. Does everyone get the same Snap offers?
  3. Can you use a coupon from the newspaper and one from coupons.com on the same item?
  4. Once upon a time, you could mail your unused, expired coupons to the military and they could use them. Can you still do that?
  5. Have you heard about changes to the Penny Item coupon and how it is accepted?

And here are the answers!

1. Kima wants to know: I noticed a number of coupon matchups in the new Publix ad that say “Snap” offer. Did I miss something? What’s a Snap offer?

Michelle: Snap is a new cash back program that seems to have launched just last week…you can see my post about it here. It is similar to programs like ibotta and Checkout 51 – you purchase your items, upload your receipt, and get cash back in your Snap account. The big difference is that you don’t need a smartphone to use the program…you can upload your receipts on their website if you prefer or download the app if that is more convenient.

Christy: I have to say that I am loving Snap so far – the app version is nice and easy to use, and I LOVE the unlimited redemption offers. I’m not sure if those will continue or if they are promotional in order to get people excited about using their program…but either way, I’ll take the savings happily! :)

Here are this week’s “Best of” questions:

  1. Can I use a paper coupon and a Upromise eCoupon on a single item?
  2. Now that Kroger has stopped doubling coupons in so many areas, do you think Publix will stop doubling too?
  3. What happened to the “Buy Theirs, Get Ours” promotion?
  4. Where do you get inexpensive ink to print your coupons?
  5. How often do you go through your stockpile?

And here are the answers!

1. Becky wants to know: I just started using Upromise, and I’m wondering if I can redeem a Upromise eCoupon along with a manufacturer’s coupon on a single item.

Michelle: You can get cash back from Upromise and use a paper coupon at the register on one item. The Upromise coupons are coded blue to show that this is a discount in addition to other coupons. Like ibotta, Upromise gives you cash back and does not discount an item at checkout. Is this the right answer…I honestly don’t know. I have looked all over the Upromise site and could not find this question addressed. Let me know if I missed it. I have always used coupons with Upromise and never had issues getting my deposit.

Coupon Question And Answer – Ask I Heart Publix 9/17

coupon question and answer

If you have a question about couponing at Publix, this is the place to find the answer! Each week my buddy Christy and I have a little coupon question and answer session here on Ask I Heart Publix. Keep sending in those questions – we love to answer them! Just remember if we didn’t get to your question this week…we will do our best to cover it another week!!

Remember–there is a tab at the top of the site under “About” titled “Ask I Heart Publix” where you can find the questions and answers from past weeks!

Here are this week’s questions:

  1. Why is Publix changing their coupon policy? Do you think it will affect the way we are able to save at Publix?
  2. How do you find out about booklet and Publix coupons so quickly?
  3. Do you still need Reader Spotlight stories?
  4. Do you cook all the recipes on this site?
  5. I love the new site design!

And here are the answers!

1. Mary wants to know: I saw that you posted that Publix is changing their coupon policy. Do you know why they made the changes they did? My store used to let me use more than one $X/$XX coupon in a single order when I met the purchase requirements, so I’m worried that I won’t be able to save as much.

Christy: I don’t know specifically why Publix changed their policy, but I’m actually pretty relieved about the changes. I know a number of commenters had been speculating about the changes for a couple weeks now and the changes that Publix is making are pretty minimal, in my opinion.

My stores used to let me use more than one $X/$XX coupon in a single transaction too, so I am a bit sad that that is going away…but I have to say, Publix is really pretty amazing with all the coupons they will accept. Saving $5 per week is a nice added bonus that we just don’t get at other stores…I really can’t complain that they don’t want to give me $20 off my total order every week anymore when they didn’t even issue the total-order coupon to begin with! There is not a single other store that will do that for me…PLUS Publix is clean, has great service and products, and terrific sale prices. As you can see – Publix still has my vote for best store ever! :)

Michelle: If you look at almost any other store’s coupon policy I think you will see that Publix still offers a very liberal and generous policy. It appears to me that the changes made were put in place to ensure that the majority of folks can take advantage of the deals.

I am just guessing but I feel like some of the changes were implemented to control shelf clearing and allow more people to get access to the deals.

Now I know some folks are very unhappy that those $x/$xx coupons are now being limited. I guess since I rarely have those coupons, it’s really of no consequence to me.  For you guys who were using 2, 3, 4 or more per transaction…I guess it’s quite a hit. I really feel like Publix has been very generous in allowing any of these to be used and limiting them helps protect their bottom line. There are very few stores that allow you to use coupons from other stores in addition to manufacturer’s coupon AND their own store coupons.

There are so many options to save and this change is fairly minimal for most couponers. I honestly think it will work to our advantage. Those folks who shop for very large families and those that may be super couponers, you might end up having to make more trips over the week to get the quantities and savings you want.

Coupon Question And Answer – Best Of Ask I Heart Publix 9/10

coupon question and answer

Don’t forget to look under the “About” tab where you can find the questions and answers from past weeks!

Here are this week’s “Best of” questions:

  1. Do you have any ideas for how to best print coupons with no internet at home?
  2. Will the coupons on sites like coupons.com, SmartSource and RedPlum be available to print all month or are there a “set” number of prints each coupon has available?
  3. Any tips on how to save on produce, meat and dairy only?
  4. When returning an item that you purchased and used a manufacturer’s coupon should you tell the cashier?
  5. Can I use more than one coupon in a transaction if the coupon states “one coupon per purchase”?

And here are the answers!

1. Aniko wants to know: So far I have managed having no internet at home by printing mycoupons at work. Unfortunately I will be unemployed soon, so I was wondering if anybody has a good idea about how to print coupons without having internet at home. I can’t print enoughcoupons to offset that kind of spending every month. I tried my local library, but unfortunately they block the download of the coupon printers. (even with 15 cents a page it would have been cheaper for me). Thanks in advance for any help :)

Christy: I don’t have any great ideas for you…my first suggestion would be to ask a close friend if you could print at their house once or twice a week. Maybe in exchange for the ink or toner, you could grab a couple extra cheap deals each week for that friend?

Or, if you have a print shop or internet cafe nearby, you might try them to see if their computers allow coupon software and how much it costs to print per page.

Michelle: The only thing that came to me would be maybe if you had a laptop you might look at a portable wireless printer? You could use FREE wifi at a restaurant and print that way? They aren’t cheap. That is definitely a tough one…maybe the readers will have some ideas for you too? Anyone?

Here are this week’s “Best of” questions:

  1. Do you have any stockpile storage dos & don’ts for summertime?
  2. How do I find out why my region doesn’t get $X/$XX coupons?
  3. How often are new Publix digital coupons added?
  4. When do Publix brand diapers and wipes go on sale?
  5. What is the best day to shop at Publix?

And here are the answers!

1. Heather wants to know: I recently started couponing and am getting a good stockpile going but now I’m running out of space in my pantry & kitchen. I would like to setup shelving in our garage for more storage but was wondering if you have any dos & don’ts on what kind of food & product will/will not survive in the heat especially when the summer is here.

Christy: I store some items in a non-temperature-controlled area of my home as well. Generally I try to only keep non-perishable items like paper goods in that space but when my stockpile is extra full I have also stored coffee, tea, drink mixes, and even some canned goods there. (I’ve not noticed any change in the way those items taste or their longevity when I’ve had to resort to storing them there.)

I have definitely learned NOT to store flour, pastas, rices, etc anywhere but a cool dry place – southern humidity can definitely be a problem for items like that! Commenters, what other advice would you have for Heather?

Michelle: You will definitely want to follow any storage suggestions on the package and maybe do a little research online. You definitely don’t want to throw away your savings by allowing items to go bad due to improper storage.

I honestly think that as long as you are rotating the items and using them quickly most things will be fine. If you are sitting on a 6 month supply…you may need to do a little research ;-)

I would probably try to keep most of the non-perishables in the garage as much as possible.

Coupon Question And Answer – Ask I Heart Publix 8/20

coupon question and answer

If you have a question about couponing at Publix, this is the place to find the answer! Each week my buddy Christy and I have a little coupon question and answer session here on Ask I Heart Publix. Keep sending in those questions – we love to answer them! Just remember if we didn’t get to your question this week…we will do our best to cover it another week!!

Remember–there is a tab at the top of the site under “About” titled “Ask I Heart Publix” where you can find the questions and answers from past weeks!

Here are this week’s questions:

  1. Why do some companies post PDF coupons?
  2. Can I use a manufacturer’s coupon with a Publix coupon that makes the item free?
  3. Where can I find the pet booklet that is out right now?
  4. How do you link your Publix purchases to your Upromise account?
  5. Why do you list all the coupons under a sale item? Why not just the best one?

And here are the answers!

1. Diva wants to know: Why do companies post PDF coupons? I usually print two per computer or two per person to present at the store, because that is how other coupons work, but I know the coupon will let you print as many copies as you want. Why do stores accept these if the bar code is still the same on each one? I thought coupons are registered in a system for number of barcodes redeemed and that determines if a company sees it as a success or not. Is a PDF coupon the exception to this?

Christy: It seems like a few of the smaller companies are the ones that generally put out PDF coupons rather than on another site like Coupons.com or SmartSource. In general, a company might choose to release a PDF coupon because it is much more inexpensive to do so.

As far as why stores will accept PDF coupons…my stores have always accepted this kind of coupon and never mentioned any issue with accepting them. Commenters, what has your experience been with using PDF coupons at Publix?

Michelle: Individual like coupons will have the same barcode. So if you cut a coupon from a Sunday coupon insert, each like coupon will be identical to the next. The bar code stores all the info that the registers need to “read” the coupon.

So a pdf having the same barcode is not really any different than your insert coupon, blinkie, etc… Now many printable coupons will have a sort of tracking info on the coupon that identifies each coupon as being unique. This technology is used to help the coupon sponsor limit and keep track of where and how coupons are used. Those coupon ID numbers are different that the bar code.

I could probably write a book about how coupons work and why companies put them out but in an attempt to be brief…pdf’s are easier and cheaper for companies to use. They don’t have to pay a secondary service to host and/or control the coupon. Unfortunately these companies may not realize that a pdf can be easily abused and cost them more than they expected.

Some companies have learned the hard way and others continue to release those pdf coupons. Obviously those that continue to use them don’t mind giving out those discounts. Maybe they are just happy to see folks buying the products?

Now as for how many a person should print and use…that will be a personal decision. The store may help you decide by limiting the number of like coupons you can use. Beyond that you’ll have to decide what you feel is an appropriate amount that you will use.

Michelle: If you go to the I Heart Publix home page and look in the top right corner…you can enter your email address to subscribe to the daily email I send out. It has a digest of all the deals I share each day. That way you will never miss a deal :)

You may still want to stop by once or twice a day….if I post a free or super cheap coupon deal, the coupon may be gone by the time the daily email shows up in your inbox!

  5. How do you know when a coupon resets?

And here are the answers!

1. Kelley wants to know: Where do you get the free product coupons?

Often companies send me coupons as a way to introduce me to their products. Some will also send them to me as a thank you for posting their promotions. I call it a blogger perk :-) It doesn’t happen too often but I certainly don’t mind when it does.

Sometimes they even send food. I have received 4 huge boxes so far this week. My new food blog (I Heart Kitchen) has opened a few doors to companies that are looking for me to use their food in my recipes. Hey, I am always open to trying things out.
