coupon question and answer

If you have a question about couponing at Publix, this is the place to find the answer! Each week I have a little coupon question and answer session here on Ask I Heart Publix. Keep sending in those questions – I love to answer them! Just remember if I didn’t get to your question this week…I will do my best to cover it another week!!

Remember–there is a tab at the top of the site under “About” titled “Ask I Heart Publix” where you can find the questions and answers from past weeks!

Here are this week’s questions:

  • LOTS of folks want to know: Is Publix going to stop taking Target coupons?
  • Katelynne asks: do you buy magazines just for the coupons?
  • Mary needs a tutorial on how to print coupons from Publix.com

Is Publix going to stop taking Target coupons?  - Well there has been a whole bunch of chatter and I have had several folks send me pictures of signs that have been placed around the stores with info indicating that at least SOME stores are indeed going to stop accepting the coupons. I am always hesitant to make big broad assumptions until we get an official statement. So...at this point, it hasn't been announced so I really have no news to share either. I just don't want to speak out of turn.  BUT...I promise if there is any announcement made, I will share the news when I hear!

Ask I Heart Publix – Review Of Cash Back Apps & Other Perks

coupon question and answerI looked through my folder and saw a bunch of questions all related to cash back apps so I thought that I would just consolidate them all into one post and we'd do a roundup. Here are the various "perks" that you'll see in the matchups here on the site.

Now this is not a list of every single app that is out there...I am sure there are many more. I just can't keep up with them all. I do try to look into them as you guys send me the info but at this point it's almost overwhelming for me to keep track of every offer.

I try to keep an eye on them and add any deals to the matchups when I can. You guys are usually good about keeping me updated as well. Most of the links above will take you to a page that gives you a basic description of the app and how it works. I don't yet have a post for Mobisave but it's pretty much like all the others. The difference with Mobisave is that it's only for iPhone users (at the moment) and there is a waiting list to join.

Are there any other apps that you all have had great success with that you would recommend to your fellow savers? Share them in the comments and if you have any specific questions about any of the apps, leave them in the comments and I'll try to answer them there.

Ask I Heart Publix – Did You Know??? SavingStar & Upromise Deals

coupon question and answerI thought I'd give you guys a little heads up on a little difference in how some deals will be written here on the site. I got an email from the folks at SavingStar asking that I stop "promoting stacking of SavingStar offers with other online or newspaper coupons."

I was honestly a little surprised as I didn't realize that I was doing anything wrong. I just assumed it was like all the other cash back options out there. You shop, you use coupons then at some point down the road you eventually & *hopefully* get your cash back.

So...I decided to check out the FAQs on the site and ran across this little tidbit:

savingstar

So they aren't exactly telling you that you can't...but they just don't really want you to use them together

Anywho...since I got my hand slapped for unknowingly suggesting that you use a coupon plus a SavingStar offer, I will not be suggesting that you do so in the future.

BUT...I checked the Upromise FAQs and found the following:

upromise

From now on when I share deals...I will just offer you both options. As a reminder, you'll have to choose one or the other. Once you activate an offer on a particular site (Upromise or SavingStar) that is where you will get the cash back. I'll simply list the deal with best deal combination as I always do...so in this case it will be with the Upromise cash back since they allow you to combine offers.

Here's an example:

Angel Soft Bathroom Tissue, 4 double rolls, $2.87
-$0.55/1 Angel Soft Item printable
-$0.45/1 Angel Soft bathroom tissue printable
-$0.75/1 Angel Soft Bath Tissue or Sparkle Paper Target printable
-$0.45/1 Angel Soft bathroom tissue SavingStar Deposit or Upromise Deposit
As low as 77¢ with coupons and Upromise deposit, if your store doubles and accepts Target coupons ($1.12 without doubles).

I'd love to hear your opinions. Had you read the FAQ on their site?

That answer is specifically addressed in the Publix coupon FAQs -

"I have a rain check and a coupon for an item, but the coupon is now expired, though it was valid on the date the rain check was issued. Can I still use the coupon on the item?
Yes, Publix will accept the coupon that was valid on the date the rain check was issued."

  • Reva wonders: "What's the longest break you have taken from couponing?"

Here are the answers:

1. Why doesn't Publix sales tags have expiration dates so we know when the sales end?

Oh how I wish that Publix would list end dates on their sales tags, it sure would make my life a while lot easier 😉  Often their non-weekly deals are random and it's really hard to know when they end, they don't seem to follow any ad so it's hard to know how long they will last. If anyone has any pull at Publix, that would be a great suggestion for them.

Here are this week’s questions:

1. Rhonda & Mark wonder - Why didn't Publix put up the Grocery Advantage Buy flyer on the site like they did the H&B Advantage Buy flyer? It's so much easier to access the ad online!

2. mominmiami wants to know why are two different ad start days? How come some people's ads start before ours down in Florida?

3. Chrissy asks how many BOGO items are we allowed to get each day?

4. Alex emailed: Why don't you identify coupons that are store specific such as the (ones that say redeemable at Walmart)? Is it legal to use these at Publix?

And here are the answers...

1. Why didn't Publix put up the Grocery Advantage Buy flyer on the site like they did the H&B Advantage Buy flyer? It's so much easier to access the ad online!

I was also so disappointed to find that they had not added the flyer to the ad this past weekend. I was really looking forward to being able to access the ad online. It makes it easier to search and I like being able to print my coupons before I shop. I can't tell you how many times I have forgotten to grab those coupons when I shop! I am still hoping that they will add the flyer soon!

  3. Sheena wants to know: what to do when a cashier forgets to scan your coupon at the register and you have already paid?
  4. Tom asks: Where can I find a list of Publix items organized by aisle?

1. I want the tearpads that you list in the ad. Where do I get them?

Well tearpads are hit or miss. Usually they are found on displays or often at the shelf. In my store often they keep them at the customer service desk on the desk with the Advantage Buy flyer and other coupon booklets. Not all stores will have all the coupons I share so you might want to find a good trading buddy who lives in a different area.

  4. JR asks: "What deal do you look forward to?"

1. "Where can I see a list of all the Publix digital coupons?"

Well I wish I could tell you there was one but there's not one that I know of. I go over to the site every couple of days and load all the coupons just so I have a master list for matching the ad. Like printable coupons, these often come and go so you have to keep checking in to see if there's anything you like and load it right when you see it to ensure that you can get it added to your account.

Here are this week’s questions:

  2. "T" wants to know: Why do you have multiple manufacturer's coupons in your lists when you can only use one manufacturer's coupon on an item?

  4. Beth wants to know: Where do you keep your stockpile?
  5. Alycia asks: I would like to see a list of stock up prices for items.  I'm never sure if I'm getting a deal at the lowest price or if I should wait for a lower price before stocking up.

1. What is Checkout 51?

I actually have a whole post about this app. This is what I call a perk...another level of saving. Kinda like Ibotta, it's a cash back app that will get you some extra moolah for items already on your shopping list.
