I’m as much for a good deal as anyone, and I’m not trying to turn couponing into a political debate. I just wanted to make it known that this company made some very anti-gay statements this week, so for me, this is one deal I won’t be chasing. There are plenty of pasta sauces out there that don’t say my friends and family members are not acceptable.

Well to start off, you just did turn this into a political debate. That is one of the reasons I’m doubling up on this deal. It is a sad day when someone can’t voice their opinion without people trying to ruin them business wise because they don’t agree with them. Look at all the pro gay companies. They can do or say anything they want without anyone trying to damage their company, as they should be able to say what they want. He never stated they refused to sell to anyone. He just stated his opinion on the matter. I have never bought Barilla pasta before but today I’m going to. I’m tired of people trying to silence someone only because they don’t agree with them!

Actually, he is welcome to say whatever he wants about anyone. I am not in any way saying he can not voice his opinion. However, I have a right to not support with my dollars any company that makes a point of PUBLICLY voicing views I do not agree with. You have the right to spend your dollars as you see fit. I was not, and am not, looking to debate, but I did want to make people aware of what was said. How you choose to deal with bigoted statements is up to you. Have a lovely day. :)

Stacie, I really feel like you brought up your concerns in a healthy manner. I feel like both of your posts were written in a way where you were trying not to cause anger and where you were showing respect towards the others who are commenting on this. Biblically, I don’t agree with homosexuality (discrimination is another issue entirely) — but I only say that to explain to anyone else reading this that I am not just sitting here of the exact same opinions as Stacie, patting her on the back for saying something I would say.

I *am* however, patting her on the back for bringing up an issue that mature human beings should be able to consider, and that she has done it in a way that allows for people to have access to the story of what actually happened so that they can decide for themselves. I’m hopeful that when future issues with companies come up, people who comment will be just as informative and considerate. Thanks, Stacie!

I too will be supporting the Barilla Company. I also believe that people have the right to say what they believe. I had not heard the anti-gay statements this company made, but now that I have I will be fully supporting them through my purchases. Thank you Stacie for making me aware of this.

Hah!!! Just have to laugh at those who are “not trying to turn couponing into a political debate. ” And in the next breath, turn couponing into a political debate. LOL!!!! Soooo anyway. . . . I live about 1/2 hr. from my nearest Publix, and I’ve already done my shop for the week, BUT thanks so much for reminding us that Barilla spoke their minds, which EVERY FREE company or person should be allowed to do without fear of reprisal!!! NOW, I’m going to have to print some of those Barilla coupons and go all the way back there again, just to show my support for Barilla!

        P.S. Not Anti-gay, just Pro-free speech!!!!!!

    • Jess says

Well, I appreciate that you shared this. I hadn’t heard about it yet. As a supporter of gay marriage and equality, will it change my pasta brand? Probably not. In fact, I just printed the coupon. How many other companies don’t openly advertise to the LGBT community? I’m having a tough time coming up with any food brand that features a gay couple in their commercials..? I wonder why that is.

Do you plan to boycott Publix if they continue to carry this brand? Wouldn’t a merchant be guilty by association?

    • Cindy says

OMG, here we go again!! Don’t buy this sauce, who cares!! I will and I really do not care who is a gay lover!! I will state and not ashamed to say, I AM NOT!!

          • Kim says

I spotted it when I printed the coupon too. It’s an offer for 1 complimentary 1 lb box of regular pasta. Proof of purchase required. Limit 1 offer per person, household or mailing address. Offer starts 9/3/13 and ends 11/30/13. Requests must be postmarked by 12/30/13. For offer details, visit Barilla.com.

.75/1 Publix Digital MQ as well! Yay!

(Ps- If I can get cheap pasta sauce, I don’t care what your personal beliefs are. Do those personal beliefs effect the taste of my pasta sauce? No? Then it’s nunna my business. Lol).

    • Lekisha says

The marinara sauce that they have goes very well with the Farmrich mozzarella sticks on BOGO this week. It is the only marinara sauce that we like that goes well with the sticks. So good deal this week.

My son was very happy when I told him. I was shopping around for a new upright deep freezer and now I’m thinking after this sale I need to make sure the deep freezer has a lock on it.

If you make your business political and say you only want woman cooking your pasta (because apparently only men can be gay), then you have to expect people to use their dollars to voice their opinions about your opinions.

  4. Lori D. says

I could care less if they say the sky is purple when it is blue. If it’s a great deal like this, I am buying it. This is what coupon ins is all about. Saving my hard earned money.

  5. deb says

The only thing I have to say about this is…I am irritated that when I printed the coupon, they wasted my ink with the ad at the top of the page!!!

  6. Sharon says

I too will be buying a LOT of Barilla and I don’t even need it. I’m heterosexual and I don’t go around cramming it down people’s throats.

    Hey Michelle,
I am pretty sure that comments have to go through a moderator or can be removed by a moderator – any chance that comments unrelated to couponing could be removed? I guess I don’t understand why anyone has to post anything political about a product at all. Shouldn’t that be reserved for their own facebook pages or conversations with family and friends? Just makes me sad to see people expressing hatred towards each other through these comments.
